Why are breeze blocks and regular bricks hollow? A hollow block is sufficiently strong, filling it would be unnecessarily expensive.

Trapped air is a good insulator - or you can fill it up with insulation foam (hollow wall insulation), if you prefer.
And then it saves A LOT of plastic !!!
