Yeah, especially at 1:20, when he says, "Does he look like a fag? I don't think so..." We're trying to figure out if he s gay himself. The earring and leather jacket were suggestive although I don't know what gays wore in 1992. Also, I don't think anyone would dare say "fag" on TV unless he was gay himself.
Why would Marvel OUT a gay character? Because they KNOW how ridiculous and unrealistic it is NOT to have gay characters in the Marvel Universe. And having a hero come out unexpectedly is exactly what the real world is experiencing right now... half the homosexuals in the world YOU WOULD NEVER SUSPECT to be gay, because they dont even come close to meeting the gay stereo type. Marcel comics is just being real, kudos ;)
@magicgirl192 Since the issue is 19 years old, you'll have to search eBay and stores that cater to comic collectors. I'm sure they pop up occasionally at comic book conventions too. The store featured in the story is Forbidden Planet, probably the biggest comic book store in NYC. You can find their website by Googling "new york forbidden planet."
Ahhh!! I discovered Northstar just this month (i have a Humanities class on history & criticism of comics) and am gay myself. I was like "yeah!!" and to find out Northstar "came out" the year I was born is bad ASS!!!
@miklo1811281 Coincidence? I think not. :) If we were dating, you'd get a copy from me as a bday present but since we're not, you might want to go to eBay to buy yourself a copy. One offering has the issue at only $2.95 and expires in 22 hrs. Search eBay on "gay Northstar." The issue is "Alpha Flight #106."
This1992 video is from my gay media archive. Although I don't read comic books, a friend gave me 10 copies of these as a gift many years later. Unfortunately, I can't find them.
Note that the interviews were done in a famous comic book store in the Village (NYC), where people are pretty liberal. Readers in other states may not be as progressive.
A great summary of the struggle to make Northstar openly gay is in the Description.

Quite dreary how the whole thing was treated in the video. I mean, it's both the reporters and the commenters.
At least it's nice to see how much the public opinion has changed in 20 years.
