u do not have to clean the stall every day clean freaks clean it every day i have a friend who cleans her 3 horses stalls every Monday, Ha and HA HA HA!!!
@feathersinerhar52 it depends upon whether your horse lives in the stall much of the time or not... when horses spend little time in their stall ( we call this an "in and out" or a run in shed, then you would not have to clean it daily, but a stall that a horse spends hours a day in should be cleaned daily to prevent hoof diseases such as thrush. thanks for your input
@Nightangelll666 it's the only thing to do... get the "right horse"...and each person has a different "right horse" for them ;) congrats on finding yours :)
@SmilingMusicFan I always wanted to be as close to that horse as I possibly could... he was perfect.. a perfect gentleman... but some people do take their horses out to clean stalls... other times it's actually not efficient or practical.. in this particular case... it 's just that we're a close family ;)
and if it's in bags it a big job to help unload! BUT better to have to many than to run out !! :) ALSO I always tell "my kids" that shavings can be ( and usually are) the most costly regular expense in running a barn! even though hay is getting up there, shavings are something to be very judicious and careful about not wasting!! even (loose) from a sawmill, the labor involved is a high price in itself ! :)
I agree with you completely : ) and I would too, if the horse(s) stayed inside. WHEN my horse(s) stay inside ( because of bad weather, or if they need to stay clean due to work or horse show/ whatever) they do get more bedding too. thank you for mentioning it... I believe I say that later in the vid.
at the risk of sounding like a salesperson : ) you might want to check out the book "Horses and People Matching" I think it might be a perfect book and time for you to read it : ) really!!!
kiln dried pine ( you must be very careful because walnut shavings would cause a horse to founder.... but I don't believe any comercial shavings dealer sells them) pine is absorbant and smells nice too : )
