First, I think the UFC gave Sherk a shot because it became obvious over time that he wasnt "as guilty" as initially believed. Penn gets a shot because he is BJ Penn and he sells alot of tickets. Silvia got his shot back in the day because Dana has a hard-on for the gay cowboy group of Hughes, Silvia and Franklin. As for bringing Pride guys over, I think we started that and they got smoked. I think Huerta and Florian need to face off for the #1 contendership.

From what I've read and what I feel, I think Sherk is innocent. Sherk will outwork him unless Penn has something quick to catch Sherk off guard.

Oh and btw I posted my previous comments because I believe there are so many ignorant people out there, who see the words steroid accusation and immediately decide that the person in question is definetly a steroid user. These people need to look into it more and stop just jumping to conclusions.

I've posted this before and I guess I am gonna have to post it again. Sean Sherk is a unique athlete in his work ethic and particularly from that work ethic his level of fitness and athleticism. I agree that Sherk and Penn should fight more top ten talent, but one could argue that Penn-Sherk will be the best fight possible to match two highly ranked lightweights. I don't have a problem with Sherk getting a title shot following his suspension; a lot of people believe the trial was unorganized, and don't trust the commission's verdict - especially as rushed as it seemed. In Penn vs. Sherk, there's an opportunity for ascension in the rankings, even in the absence of PRIDE lightweights.

The fact that tests are inconclusive may makes the stripping of sherks title unjustified. I think Sherk should receive a title shot because it feels as though BJ is an interim champ without any conclusive evidence that sherk took steroids. I understand how some could be upset with this immediate title shot. The UFC made a mess of this situation. If the tests were inconclusive, sherk shoulnt have been stripped at all. If they were, he should have been forced to fight at least one tune-up fight.

i meant in the ufc, miyata and possibly ishida come immediately to mind as people who could out wrestle sherk though i would take sherk in mma vs. miyata he has some issues

The bottom line is that Sherk is still really the champion. He's not so much getting a title shot as defending his current ghostly title. Besides BJ Penn can't dress himself without his wet nurse.

its not even really sherk im getting at its more it seems the ufc is willingly to have an accused roid champ (sherk may or may not be inoccent but thats not for me to say) and though they strip and suspend them (barnett and big timmy) all but barnett get an instant rematch and barnet didn't because of money so whats the point of even stripping them

Who cares about the titles anyway? Its just an excuse to make the fight 5 rounds. IF you're talking about title legitimacy, then what better fight that Sherk vs Penn? The title is new and doesn't mean very much, this fight will make it mean a lot more.
