  • ark is like a final fantasy character that can survive falls from any hieght and im really leaving too much coments

  • now that i think of it isnt that lion from narnia son of a sea god or something and am i leaving too much coments

  • those lions really shake their butts to walk

  • the lion is that lion from narnia forgot his name

  • havent u read percy jackson and the olympians then u know bout water god poseidon

  • There Might Not be a God of Rain, But there is a God of Thunder, And Rock N' Roll.

  • Well, in Greek Mythology, there was Poseidon...he was the God of Storms, as well as God of the Sea.

  • *sigh*... I love this game! My favorite arpg! Was there ever a sequel?

  • @StayUgly Nope, it was the last of the Soul Blazer trilogy. If you haven't played the other games in the series: They are Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia. If you haven't played them, you should check them out.

  • In Greek mythology, rain and storms are controlled by the sea god Posidon.

  • Star Wars referance? Liam Neeson played Qui-Gon Jinn in Episode I. He also played Aslan the Lion in the Chronicles of Narnia.

  • @JDJeffery Years later.

  • 2:38 Zeus was the god of all weather and his Roman equivalent was the Jupiter.

  • Greek Paganism is cool... but Odinism/Asatru (Nordic Paganism) is my preference.

  • @JonSchaffer57 same here bro, sadly my runes broke, they were made of clay so i gotta make another set... no big deal, just an annoyance lol

  • Indus River! Ark's in Pakistan!

  • Ouch! Good thing Ark can survive falls of infinite height...

  • My comment got eaten?

Anyway, how did I know a Matrix reference was coming, heh.

  • The "rain" gods are really the goddesses of agriculture; demeter for greek, can't remember for roman.

  • No Ace Vantura references, no Lion King references, but you still managed to sneak in a History of the World reference at 7:52

(dang nab it, I forgot the name of the director for History of the World. That would have been more appropriate (putting his name in instead of the movie title) as History of the World is not one of his better known movies. Nothing like Robinhood Men in Tights, Blazing Sadles, or Young Frankinstine witch he also directed. Why can't I remember his name!?)

  • May be a bit late, but are you talking about Mel Brooks?

  • That's the guy, thank you.

  • Mel Brooks? I think that was him anyway...

  • Another brilliant ep, HC! I'll check out ep 19 as soon as I can. Keep up the great work!

Although, I gotta wonder if the similarities between the tree outline that shows up when you used the grass pin at 0:48 and the Mana Tree from the "Mana" series are intentional. They look so similar to me for some odd reason. Maybe I'm just nuts. Well, more nuts than usual, at any rate.

  • Nice Agent Smith reference HC! Probably my favorite quote from the Matrix Trilogy.

Anyways, Love this LP, great way of playing and very entertaining!

  • Okay, that boss didn't make any sense... Oh well... Now you have guide a kitty around. Lovely...

  • You COULD have made a Liam Neeson reference considering her played a Lion in Chronically of Narnia, or to keep with your Star Wars idea he played Qui Gon in Episode 1

  • thanks man i will once i get a new pc game controller:)

  • They offer an Arthurian Legend class at my college as well.

  • Falling boss fights are always awesome. Storm Master is probably my favorite boss in the game.

  • Great episode HC.

My class was also interesting when we learned about greek mythology.,but I can't remember that I heard about god of rain.

    I heard about some similiar.

  • there isn'e a real greek god of rain. that duty was given to zeus god of the sky

  • Well Zeus was was the god of the skys but I believe he had the four winds under him

  • In Greek mythology the four winds, specifically the East wind, Eurus, were associated with rain.

  • The god of farming/ is the god of rain

  • 6:31 Much later in the game??? I ... I never went back there in the game... what?! O_O

    10:35 Best music begins.

  • I find it strange how no one mentioned that frog there in the grass.

    Pink Text=Elle

    Frog=Elle

She must've incarnated herself into a frog on the outside world.

There has been fan speculation about that frog, anyways.

And by the looks of it, she's not too happy being a frog.

  • I knew someone was going to come say that and spoil all the fun. Boo.

The fact that it's pink text signifies that it's a female, BTW.

Come on, you can't have an all male society.

Maybe it was a lioness off screen.

    You never know.

Don't worry, we'll see more of that frog soon.

  • When the lights come up, the three lions in front of Ark have manes and are therefore male. So, I assumed that those three were the lions who spoke in the dark. But, you may be right.

  • Well, it is no directly said what god of Greek mythology is god of rain. Zeus is lord of sky and I read that he can be god of rain as well.

Most of books I read says 'lesser' god of rain is Ganimedes (Aquarius), servant of Zeus.

  • haha, mushroom kingdom, that was a good one HC!! reminds me to secret of mana, even a great game, just like terranigma

  • Zeus was a rain god as well as a god of lightning, thunder and law.

  • MORE PARTY MEMBERS!

  • I believe that the Romans kind of just stole Greek gods. They just renamed them Mars, Jupiter etc. So basically they're the same gods.

  • HC Bailly: "Yaaay! More Party Members!!!"

    **plays Chrono Cross fanfare**

  • nice video man i might check out this game later whichever systems its on

  • @sidswyers it's on the SNES. Just go to

    coolroms if you want it.

  • Worship pagan gods for rain? I'm surprised we didn't get Pac-Man Jones in on this, as much as they want to make it rain.

  • Their rain god for the Greek, was Zeus. He control thunder, lighting, and rain.

  • Guess it fits that this boss is called Storm Master then.

  • i think that thing is a turtle in the sanctuary

  • Look, Simba. Everything the light touches is our kingdom.

  • You know, I often forget that Ark ISN'T a silent protagonist. You see, that's not a good thing. While I don't normally care for silent protagonists to begin with, when a character is actually not one, they should regularly converse with the people who are requesting their help for some fetch quest instead of just accepting and then later arbitrarily adding unnecessary dialogue. Will had a similar problem as well, for that matter. At least Blazer WAS a silent protagonist.

  • That's mostly because this is Chapter 2, my least favorite chapter. There's no one to really talk to, and it's mostly just "kill these guys, go to the next area, repeat a few times, go to next chapter".

Don't worry, the game drastically picks up again in Chapter 3.

  • But there still ARE NPC's to talk to, even if they are few. And yet still Ark barely says anything, acting like Link.

  • @HCBailly hey, theres nothing wrong with praying to pagan gods to make it rain, in fact, thats the way it was in neolythic times... lol paganism has been around for like 2 billion years... its just evolved over time...

  • So many lion king comments to be made here...

  • So I guess Simba... er Leim has joined our party.

  • Damn those Cockatrices!! XD

  • Of course they did. They even had gods for sex, booze, the ocean, storms, and grain. They even had a unknown god that is a catch-all for gods they may not know about.

  • What happens when you get "all" the Magirocks?

  • @xxRunesuxx

nothing really, you can just buy more spell rings/pins

  • i'm in a greek mythology class right now and the rain god is zues

  • I'm not sure exactly whether rain was the province of any Greek or Roman deity, but most likely it was someone's domain. Due to the aridity of the climate, though, a lot of irrigation for crops came from rivers, many of which had their own associated god or spirit (Greek daimon, whence our word 'demon').

  • Is Ark wearing the spring boots from Portal or something?

  • Pretty sure they adopted Isis into the Pantheon for that. Rainbows + rain I think...

  • NO wories HCbailly no worries

  • 3:10 ...wow, that's a real, um, subtle reference there, game. This game did come out a year or so after The Lion King was released, though an SNES RPG seems like a strange place to drop a nod to a then-recent Disney movie.

    "Whoa. I know lion-fu."

That boss was a scary looking bastard..usually, they don't start getting all that spooky looking until near the end of the game..also, it's also cool to see multiphase boss fights.

  • life is meaningless unless you venture into a dangerous canyon alone and risk death. sorry king, i think socrates would say something different. "the unexamined life is a life not worth living."

  • Was that bird a Vulcan?

  • it's been a while since my greek mythos class too. i'm guessing it would be Zeus since he's god of the sky.

  • More party members!

  • It's really odd, but this game reminds of Willow for the NES...

  • Hmm, that Matrix reference was surprisingly fitting.

  • in case anybody was wondering, Ark falls 210 feet for no damage. Shins of steel that one

  • Zeus is the Greek God of the Sky and Lightning thus he is the god of Weather so rain would be his department. Poseidon has nothing to do rain what so ever being the god of the sea and earthquakes. Demeter is the goddess of the harvest but she seems to have power of the seasons for when Persephone goes to the underworld the seasons change to winter and when her daughter is back on Earth the seasons change to summer.

  • And now begins the "annoying escort mission" segment of the game. Thankfully it's not that long.

  • Nevermind, I'm wrong. The god of rain in both would be Zeus/Jupiter.

  • Love that ending music whilst walking with him :D, the first time i walked with him i got stuck for quite a while.

  • I think the rain god might be Neptune/Poseidon, who is the Greek and Roman god of the sea.

  • Yay, you took my forum-based advice!

  • Aw yeah, Leim's theme. Definitely one of my favourites in the game.. You should title the next episode "A Day In The Leimlight".

  • Or "I Just Can't Wait To Be King". Actually, I think that works better.

  • its a rare pleasure to catch a HCbailey vid shortley after its uploaded, but the vids in general are always a pleasure i look foreward too.

I stopped expecting a matrix referance when you didnt make one earlier

  • You FOUGHT the Greek God of Water in the first game!

  • It would be either Poseidon (god of water) or Demeter (god of the harvest). Poseidon since water is rain :p and Demeter because of the whole Persephone drama and the sole fact that she is responsible for all harvest on Earth.

  • i learned this in my mythology class Zeus is god of the sky and rain

  • Demeter was the Greek goddess of harvest. I'm pretty sure that that would cover rain.

  • I like the music for the canyon part... simple but kinda neat.

  • Star wars reference? Hmm...

    Leim: Help me Ark-i-wan kenobe?

    Yeah, that sounds pretty stupid.

  • HC have you forgotten Posieden (sorry for bad spelling if i spelled it wrong)

  • *Poseidon

    :3

  • The Greeks had a god of water, Poseidon, and the Romans had Neptune. Not really gods of rain, but water is water.

  • "You're gonna get killed by pterodactyls... or COCKATRICES!"

    That was funny...
