I had the privilege of being a photographer on both Amnesty International tours in 86 and 88. An incredible time and there's no match for being onstage to actually witness, feel and digest the power of that music. A video cant touch that ever, even being in the audience doesn't match up. So unless you guys were there....as M C Hammer said " cant touch this".
everybody always has something, this is the language of ourselves, it is what we express, it is us, peter gabriel, my parents loved your music before me.
Yossou N'Dour is the reason to hear this song live. I saw them in 86' and had tears pouring down my face when N'Dour sang his solo! Love this song LIVE!!
@spacehopperballs Let's stop with the Gabriel vs Collins crap. They're both incredible artists. And not as different musically as some claim. And this is coming from a long-time hard core Genesis fan as well as a fan of the careers of both of the band's fabulous frontmen. Two thumbs up for this performance. Can't beat Yossou N'Dour as a sidekick. to Peter. Put them together and something magical happens.
Wall E brought me here! I almost forgot what a talented musician Peter is! Love this song alot........fun to watch. Makes you wish you were up on the stage with him doesn't it? <3
I love this live version. The energy on the stage, the way the crowd reponds to it, everything is just amazing. For some reason it's incredibly touching.. It just really does something to my soul.. a sense of happiness and freedom. It even makes me tearful at times!!!
I am still thoroughly moved by this song, in particular this live version. My whole face, my scalp tingle with pure emotion. It's so rejuvenating. This is one of those few songs that are perfect -- the depth and simplicity of the lyrics merge perfectly with the music, and this live performance makes the song that much better. Youssou N'Dour's hauntingly powerful vocals give the song that much more power. The studio version needed more of N'dour's vocals. Beautiful, incredible song.
hang on. two people didnt like this video? those two people need to go get themselves castrated and labotomised.
what happened to music man. this video further strenghtens my ambition to build a time machine and go back to the 80's and 90's. where there is no justin beiber.
I saw him in the early 90s in Atlanta after a local radio station patitioned him to add Atlanta to the tour. He did...and I have to say it was so worth it. He has a true talent for writing music and lyrics. Even though this song got used in bad 80s movies I still think it is great. That concert is still to this day one of the top 3 that I have had the privladge to attend.
I've been looking for this specific live version on Amazon and iTunes with no success. I have the original, even got the one from the Say Anything soundtrack to make sure it wasn't different. Any ideas where I can buy this exact live performance?

wtf is that bouncing around at 4:16 at the front of the stage? Is that supposed to be dancing??? Or did some monkeys get away from the zoo?
Great vocals and this song will always be one of the best ever written!

if someone came out with a song like this now-a-days they'd sell it for use in a car commercial. how sad has the music industry become?
