  • Why do you always purchase your memory upgrade cards through Crucial?

  • excellent video. Can you tell me how to check the overall performance?? i'm really new in this.

  • Very helpful

  • hi Michael just wanted to know where i could buy that triple zero phillips screwdriver? thnx

  • I have a late 2010 MacBook Pro 13 currently with 4 GB of RAM. It says the ram is 1067 MHz DDR3 in the about this mac tab. So whats the difference between 1333 MHz and 1067 MHz? Is it bad to put in a higher MHz than i currently have?

  • @boardboy297 I did what you are asking and the Pro would not even turn on. It appears that with Apple you MUST purchase the SAME MHZ that you already have. Once I traded it in for the 1066MHz versions it worked perfectly.

YOu and I have the same model I believe.....the 2.66GHZ?

  • If you have 200 dollars to spend, go for the 16 gig combo, I think...

  • Nice hat rest at 0:53

  • Thanks a lot, I'ts very helpful

  • will this work with the macbook pro 5,5 (model)

  • @DetroitBORG I didn't get your email response. If you can try it again.

  • i bought 8gb of kensington ram. How would this compare to crucial? I don't find a difference in performance.

  • @DetroitBORG Where you bought the Screw Driver Set.

What is the name of the Screw Drivers Set that you have so i can Google it

    Thanks Michael

  • Is it possible to use a 00 Philips screwdriver

  • does this void the warranty?

    same with upgrading the hdd...

    nice vid :D

  • You get blue ram?? LUCKY!

  • Hi, i just got 8GB of memory too and i have two questions for you. Is it true what they say about the static messing up the RAM memories, and that's why you have to use gloves and stuff or touch a faucet? Second, What program do you use to run the benchmark? Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Micheal,

I am planning on getting an iMac, but i wanted to know if i should upgrade the RAM myself or should i have Apple do it when i order it? If you could let me know that would be great! Thanks.

  • @DetroitBORG No it supports 8gb i just upgraded mine an hour after i posted that, apple lies to make it seem like the macbook is inferior to the macbook pro, when it really does support 8gb :D

  • @MyWonderApple Good to know, in theory it can address even 16GBs of RAM with 8GB modules.

  • @DetroitBORG Hmm... you can test that one if you like ;)

  • @DetroitBORG Does this work on a 2010 Macbook white? Apple says it only supports 4gb but everyone I asks says that its a lie and can actually support 8gb, what do you think?

  • Also r thoses 4g only work with Mac or can it work wit like a hp or Dell

  • @bloodyboy678 These modules are universal and used by other manufacturers besides Apple, but I can't tell you what Dell or HP are using. Crucial's website can help you identify those.

  • Hey Michael :)

I love your videos and I have been watching and enjoying your videos for such a long time :) I upgraded my RAM on my MacBook Pro 17" Early 2009 by myself as well, but i didn't noticed any difference of any sort... the applications still take ages to load and icons are still bouncing forever -.-' Can u give me any advice ?

  • @Lionel3G The RAM will not change those type of performance issues, RAM simply allows you to run more programs without sacrificing overall app performance.

  • Can u do that with a Mac air also

  • @bloodyboy678 You cannot upgrade the RAM yourself in the MBA, it's soldered to the motherboard.

  • @bloodyboy678 You cannot upgrade the RAM yourself in the MBA, it's soldered to the motherboard.

  • @DetroitBORG also thanks for the spelling correction! Bad mistakes! :)

  • @DetroitBORG thanks! ;)

  • may i know what type of mic are you using , I'm trying to start recording on youtube and my voice is awful

  • @Faesalmajid I use the Blue Yeti USB mic, a very popular microphone.

  • thank you

  • What a beastly machine.

  • does Crucal make these RAM chips for Macbook Airs?

  • @pickupbuck No, the MacBook Air Ram is soldered to the motherboard and cannot be upgraded by the end-user.

  • @Detroitborg n e news on iPhone 5 yet??

  • @redders109 Lots of rumors, absolutely no news at the moment. It'll be here in October, probably early.

  • Do you know any benchmark software for a Windows PC?

  • @PS3Gamer5019 There are many, Cinebench is also available for Windows.

  • Great video. Keep up the good work

  • @DetroitBORG If you checked gmail. I sent you an email on all the questions I have. Could you check you're gmail?

  • @awesomeMario11 Hopefully I answered you, but I may have missed it. Let me know.

  • @DetroitBORG on the MacBook airs, can you upgrade the SSD flash storage or is it sodded on the board?

  • @DPCB01 The SSD can be upgraded, the RAM is soldered to the board.

  • Mike, I upgraded my MacBook Pro to 8GB a couple months ago and got similar results. Easy upgrade and worth every penny.

  • @myapplezone Yes, it's amazing how cheap RAM is, it would be a shame not to do it.

  • You are amazing! I learn SO much from the videos you make!

  • @PhilipGreger Glad to hear it, thanks! :)

  • 1 person is a windows fan.

  • $200 for that. Damn, apple does overprice!!

  • Is there an possibility to upgrade to a higher size of RAM?

  • @benny19941994 Apparently you can, but it is very expensive to go to 8GB RAM bars.

  • I spent all day yesterday randomly repeating 'Mac Mini' after watching your video on... the Mac Mini.

  • @Malosovich Whoops, sorry ;)

  • i have a question my hp dv6 6135dx supports up to 16gb ddr3 ram, but the crucial upgrade kit is like 800 bucks! that's apple pricing right there... anyone know of anywhere i can get it cheaper?

  • thanks for the advice on the refurb mac i got it and it looks like i brought it from the apple store 2011 lion os model. i tried upgrading a 17inch macbook pro memory a year ago i brought the memory from owc and it turns out it didn't fit in the slot i have all the tools necesary for this procedure just want some advice as to what I'm looking for we have the same model so i would like some advice whenever you get a chance thanks.

  • @triple33able You want the SO-DIMM DDR3 modules, which are usually classified as laptop RAM...but Apple uses them in their desktop line as well. I have a link in this video's description which will take you to the modules sold by Crucial which will give you more detailed specs.

  • I've also 8 Gb on my MBP and I see that Lion benefits from it. If i've saw this video earlier, I probably done it myself. Very well done!

  • What would be more beneficial? Upgrading to 8GB of RAM or upgrading to an SSD? I can't really pay a lot of money and I don't exactly want all the complications that go along with getting a new hard drive but I do want the extra speed. Plus I edit a good bit of HD videos and such so I really need the big hard drive, so if I got an SSD it would have to be at least the large 250GB. So, what do you recommend?

  • @killamanjaro306 SSD, absolutely, by far the biggest gains are made there.

  • @DetroitBORG

Is there a way to remove the dvd drive and put in a ssd though and keep the other drive as storage?

  • Okay, I know this has nothing to do with what's going on in the video but I question. I have a Mac and on my account I set a password, so when I turn it on it asks me for it. But I don't want it any it anymore. How do I remove it? I've been searching for a while now, and I thought of you cause you're a Mac genius! Please answer. Thanks.

  • @Sk8Abel3 Go to system preferences, Sercurity and Privacy and uncheck "require password after sleep or screen saver begins. Unless you still want the password just not when you log on, then all you have to uncheck is "disable automatic login"

  • @killamanjaro306 Thank you! For some reason I kept thinking it was in the User & Groups section. But thanks! :)

  • You need to enable Automatic Login. Go to System Preferences>Users & Groups>Automatic Login>Choose your account name. If it's grayed out, you will have to click the lock icon and enter your password.

  • Hey DetroitBORG,

How's the heating on your MBP? I've heard many issues for the MBP in regards to this matter. How does your laptop fair?

    Thanks

  • 1 persons ram was faulty.

  • Yey! I have the same MBP, and this was good! I want to upgrade it my self! :D

  • does doing this effect the guarantee?

  • I want to do this in my Macbook Pro 15" late 2010. Can I use Samsung RAM or is your's better? I want to have the best RAM :D

  • @thecrazyfacility Samsung RAM is the best, but many times Crucial sells sticks with Samsung modules, you just never know.

  • @DetroitBORG Thanks! :)

  • @DetroitBORG i have a 2011 mbp will this void my warrenty

  • Where do you buy crucial ram? They only sell kingston in my country.. Holland that is..

  • @ThaMaikel13 Kingston is fine too.

  • @DetroitBORG I just found these: ht tp: //azerty(dot)nl/8-758-313535/crucial-geheugen-4-gb-so(dot)html . Those should fit right? They're the same specs etc as the kingston ram that they recommended me.

  • I have a 2011 13" MBP (2.3GHz i5, 8GB RAM, SATA3 SSD), and I'm only getting ~6500 on Geekbench. O_O

  • Steve Jobs has resigned? :o

  • Nice vid mate. I did this with my 09 13"MBP. I put in 8gig of RAM and upgraded the drive to a 7200rpm 500gig ssd hybrid. It's like having a brand new computer.

  • Mike for future CEO! :)

  • Great review! Look forward to more videos in my subscription box! :)

  • How can I improve my iMac's stats? (Not only RAM) Thanks :)

  • @AntoniniBabyFace the best way apart from the processor , but an expensive one , is a SSD module along or instead of the hard drive.

  • @DetroitBORG Question, sir. What SSD do you have & could you make a video with some tips how to make it clean etc since Lion hasn't got proper TRIM functionality?

  • Great video Mike! I always look forward to your videos in my subscription box :)

  • RAM doesn't increase speed. it increases space for more apps to run at a time.

  • On the outside it looks heavenly, on the inside it looks........BEAUTIFUL !

  • Near the end you know everyone thought: Open- ALL the apps!

  • Do you have to take ESD precautions when doing this?

  • Great video man.

So do all of your computers have 8GB's now?

  • DetroitBorg for the CEO !!

  • Comment removed

  • He Mike have you heard about the retirement of Steve Jobs and if so what is your opinion Steve has recommended Tim cook to take over

  • Thanks!! This is awesome, since I'm going to upgrade mine to 8GB in a week!

  • What screwdriver set do you have, I would really like to get one like it.

  • This doesn't void your warranty right? I've done upgrades to my PCs and it never did.

Great video. ALWAYS look forward to your videos in my subscriptions page.

  • I really like the new energy you've started to gain in your voice. Once again, great video!!

  • I have the same screwdriver, lol.

  • i did it with my 2011 MBP 2 Months ago & i just can say that it's worth it. especially while running lots of stuff (:

  • you should replace Steve Jobs as the CEO of Apple :p

  • congratz. you just break the warranty

  • @syahmie69 this doesn't void the warranty.. I did the same to mine and my applecare is still valid. And yes it has been in the shop after I did the upgrade

  • Great vid :)

  • nice !! =D

  • You have iDVD on Lion? Nice.

  • Really strange the CPU score was lower in the second test after upgrading to 8 gigs.

  • What computer is better MacBook air 13" or MacBook pro 13"?

  • @Togadavis14 Technically, the MBP is....but the MBA is the way I would go now.

  • @DetroitBORG May I ask you why you would go for the Air instead of the MacBook Pro? I am inquisitive as I am considering getting an Apple laptop at this moment in time.

  • @Togadavis14 Buy a macbook pro and install a SSD then it'll be faster than the MBA because of the better processor..

  • @Togadavis14 For regular usage, web browsing, checking emails, watching YouTube videos in HD, opening applications and booting up, then the MBA is the winner. For editing, rendering, and other heavy intensive usage, then the MBP.

  • theirs a building at my university that's full of imacs and i was so tempted to take the screen out of one today since i saw your video yesterday on cleaning the screens haha :)

  • @IAR440 LOL, whoops ;)

  • install ram from crucial your self for $60 vs $200 for apple to install the ram. Thanks to your instructional video I am now empowered to save a ton of money.

  • @greysmoke321 Yeah, and I think it's kinda fun to peak under the hood ;)

  • Apple really rips u off on upgrades

  • Another great vid!

  • Nice

  • How did Michael open all the programs at once?

  • @theghostrider501 Applications>CMD click on apps to open>CMD O to open all.

  • @randomrazr The MacBook pro has 2 memory slots. This would require two 8gb modules. They are not impossible to find just extremely rare and expensive. You are looking at about 1600 for two modules. As for the performance with 8gb it all depends what you do.

  • Now if this does not void your warranty I guess I can do whatever the hell i want with it.

  • Great video! How do you afford these stuff though...

  • Upgraded my ram on my PC. Thanks for the great advice!

P.S. I put your email on the list when they asked who sent you here.

  • only 175 views umm

  • I like these DIY videos, keep it up

  • I love your how to videos (and all your videos) as they are so comprehensive, easy to follow and instructional. I like how you decided to test the ram before you put the back plate back on.

  • You. Have. An. Awesome. Voice.

  • ur doing good things

    go ahead mr.michael

  • 2 questions,

is buying 16gb of ram crazy expensive?

would there be a big performance boost with 8gb on a 15inch macbook pro?

great informative video as always detroitborg!

  • nice dawg

  • All your videos are helpful, detailed and interesting. Keep up the amazing work!!!

  • Steve Jobs has resigned as the CEO of Apple. :(

  • @MrBarneyDinosaur it's a very sad day indeed, but he's still Chairman of the Board and will have some influence on future products, but I'm worried about Apple's long-term future without his incredible vision.

  • @MrBarneyDinosaur note to self, dont get any more apple products now that he resigned

  • nice video!!
