Epic bumb. I've read the book a long time ago and rereading it. Saw the movie. How is this explained in such an obvious manner? And caused it? I've found him to be a psychopath, which is also helped by the fact that he has weak parents, but still. It is also hinted that he got a good life and familly and so on.

Let me promise this post is NOT an insult. :) The movie can be quite disturbing, but the point it (and the book) makes is about social conditioning. Halfway through, the authorities "rehabilitate" the main character in a scarring way, left unable to defend himself from random violence or the revenge of his past victims. Focuses less on the character's sadism and more on how we deal with criminals&victims. Intense, but a safe way to teach a lesson kids usually have to learn the hard way.

actually if you read the book, its about coming to the realization that reckless destruction is NOT all that there is in life...but the main point is like soldierdifortuna2 said, that this is a process that HAS to come naturally and not by some sick "rehabilititaion method" that's really a form of torture.
