Paul Butterfield was a passionate singer. He simply poured out his heart and soul with each performance. He conveyed pathos and pain (the "blues) so well.
@jkoff76 not sure it was a "waste"... seems like an untold story under there somewhere- brilliant talent here- you can feel it, but for some weird reason "not appreciated"... at least that is my take on it. Yes, kind of tragic! Cheers.
Not to my knowledge, maybe Butterfield has it on one of his later albums, which I don't pay attention to. However, the good news is this show is no available on DVD in USA on Amazon. They are releasing the Rockpalast series, so you can get it there if you wish. A great show all the way around.
I suspect if you hooked them all up to a perfectly calibrated Peterson Strobo tuning stomp .. you'd find that its everyone one else that is off pitch .. not Buzz !
That would include pianos , all keys , neighbourhood animals .. allof them .. even Pythagoras .. not Buzz !
hey, anyone who has ever played guitar has played out of tune-that's why Buzz developed his tuning system...I still love his choice of notes here...always impeccable
The legendary Rockpalast show - including It's Alright - was released on CD by german television WDR, distribution by SPV (see: wwwspv.de) some time ago. It's a fantastic recording!
Butter was starting to lose it a little voicewise, but he still was one of the most soulful white singers ever. This is some really nice chordal stuff by Buzz. Miss you Paul!
The awesome Buzz Feiten has a new album just out with Brandon Fields . Type in Feiten Dinwiddie and watch the bonus video track from it .. dedicated to the late great Brother Gene Dinwiddie .
I got Buzz's tuning system on my guitar. The 'Buzz Feiten Tuning System' so its called. Plays in tune all up & down the neck. Intonation is so much sweeter. Night & day diff' IMO. Guy's a great musician as well. Rock on'..
No coincidence there. I have been listening to Buzz since the Butterfield days in 1970 or so and he improves every band/song he is on. I saw the Weckl band with Buzz a few times and Weckl and Tom Kennedy played the same solos each nite and said the same things to the crowd. Very scripted. Jay Oliver was good each nite but the real good stuff came from Buzz, course, I am biased.
i'd forgotten just how f-ing good Buzz is. love the way he sets up his solos: melodic, lyrical, and smoking hot at the same time. pure genius. one of the all-time guitar greats (albeit somewhat unheralded).

It's called just intonation on the piano. I play fretless bass guitar and one of the nice things is you can adjust your fingering to compensate.

Discovered Buzz through the Dave Weckl Band records. My fave Weckl albums all have Buzz on them. Coincidence?

Buzz is the best. He is somewhat "unknown" by the public which is a shame. Maybe this YouTube exposure will help.

Hi FeitenFan,
Me and a my best friend has looking for this concert in years.
We saw it live in 1978 on German Television and it was a milestone for us, since our first steps on the guitar started there.
Did you have more clips.
Thank you very much.
