  • Triggered or not, you're still playing the parts, It's not like they're flown in, I have backing tracks too. Triggered sounds in many cases just sound better so are you there to be a purist snob, or to sound the best you can?

  • @Randalyzed typo, meant to say "I HATE backing tracks" sorry

  • Double pedal or nothing! haha

  • wow i just love WATCHING you play in this video!

  • They mesh heads? I used to have some :) Sound alright i guess...

  • Triggered drums and Duallist pedals are for cheaters. Learn to play with 2 pedals!!!

  • @mercury4metal What's a "triggered drum"? I agree about the pedal, kind of, but if you knew anything about pro-audio you'd know that even people like Danny Carey, Simon Phillips and almost *all* metal drummers use "triggered drums" in large venues to control the sound, usually on their bass drums. I don't think you know what "triggered drums" are...

  • Is that an acoustic kit converted? How did you do it? are you using drum triggers? Where did you get Remo V-Drum heads?

  • there is a limited speed that can be played. i dont like them.not responsive enough...demon drive 3002d ...pearl

  • @mmiikkeesstteeeellee its only limited to your own capabilities. Have you seen Thomas Lang use the sonor giant-step equivalent? He's insane!

  • its a cool innovation but unpractical

  • @TapOutBass it is if u like playing with ur hi hat while playing doubles

  • i think it is a great invention.......because is keeping busy only one foot....with other foot you can play a hhot hat gibraltar for example...and the efect is great.....i think....

    drummers knows better!

  • RUBBISH!!!!

  • what was the song at the beginning?

  • Hey can anyone teach me (or point me to the right video) to tune my drum kit? Right now my drums sound like card board boxes. haha! I really like how his drums sound.

  • @wauggicsy plenty of videos that show you how here on youtube :)

  • @wauggicsy yeah i can! although this guys drums a triggered, thats why they sound 'perfect'

  • nice record, i forgot the question i wanted to ask.

  • wow on 1:35 you made the black thing the hitter?

  • @skerskies

Only the bass drum / Duallist was used for bass drum patterns.

  • why wont you show your self playing

  • @skerskies

My video camera was broken when this was recorded, otherwise I would have used it, but there are no tricks, this was genuine.

  • @1663PPP

how long did it take too set the pedel up for your settings?? when looking at pic's of this pedel there are switch's on the pedel itself/ what do they do? please reply

  • @ajtoy454

The settings were out of the box, I did nothing to it.

The left lever makes it a single pedal, the right lever makes it a double.

    Hope that helps!

  • @1663PPP I understand what your saying, but what Iam talking about is the two-little-switchs on the pedel itself, they look like dip-switch's/ what are they for / please advise....

  • @ajtoy454

If you mean on the footplate, they are for the toe stop bar?

  • @1663PPP gotcha / thanxs bro/ keep the videos comming... nice work

  • weird type of kit....

  • What kind of module are you using?

  • @SimonVicFirth

    Hi Simon

When this was recorded, I was using a TD-12 and a TD-10 Expanded.

  • @1663PPP Ok thanks, the TD-12 is pretty amazing since the KX update. you have a very nice drumkit!

    Keep the good work up.

  • @SimonVicFirth

Thanks Simon, although I no longer have the Catalina.

I've not yet recorded my new 'e' kit, but it is something very special running via a TD-20 module - hope to do a video towards the end of this month.

  • POSTED BY MackBruce12

I have both an acoustic and an electric kit, and some might say that putting mesh heads on an acoustic is a mix between both. Honestly, the feel and sound i can get out of my Acoustic Ride, and china and crash etc. Is impossible to match with electric drums. I have a Roland TD-20Sx and as realistic as it sounds, it doesnt come close to the real thing. Although, if you are doing this due to noise issues, Better that than nothing

  • @MackBruce12

    Hi Mack.

There are many complex reasons & preferences in why people use electronic kits. While the TD-20 sounds are very good, I agree, they don't come close to a real kit, especially when recording. I am now looking VST where sounds come very close.

I am fortunate to be able to use both 'a' and 'e' kits, however, as you know, 'e' drums have opened up drumming to a whole world of people that either don't have the space or seclusion to be able to play an acoustic kit.

  • 'e' kits do also enhance a little what you are able to play (due to the bounce)

For me, by using the Smartrigger cymbals (real under dampened cymbals) it certainly helps with the feel issue when in my studio and I also use an 'a' kit converted to an 'e' kit for the sense of perspective and scale of my 'a' kit.

I do also now use 'e' drums in my stage kit as it opens up a whole new world of sounds, so personally, I am very thankful to have both formats.

  • I understand that completely, however i just like how much more flexable the sounds of an acoiustic cymbal are

  • @MackBruce12

Oh for sure, but Smartriggers will help bridge that gap.

  • hehe imagine having two bass drums with two dualist

  • @Gunnershaun1380 look up quadbass or somethin like that, theres a guy on youtube with it, look up redneck drum cover and you'll find it

  • wow! 24 years! thats a hell lot of time off the drums

  • @DannyWDrums

As Sinatra once sang, Regrets, I have a few...

    Glad to be back though!

  • That's a really nice drumset.

  • @UTTERKAOS1994

Thank you, although I no longer have the Catalina

  • WTF? Theres a limit to what a pedal should be capable of doing, this isn't cool at all.

    It's just cheating!

  • why do people call this pedal cheating...i really dont understand. how is this pedal any different that a double pedal setup. if the dualist is going to be called "cheating" then the double pedal should also, the purpose of the double pedal was to make eighth note bass drum parts easier than just a single beater...and thats what the dualist is doing...just taking that one step further so the left foot(in most cases) is free to express the drummers mind via hats, tambourine, wood block or whatever

  • First of all, I must say that I like your playing style, and you are quite a good drummer.

But, I don't like the sound of this pedal, when you "double" it, it sounds so unperfect, not stable...the double pedal sure has a more controlled feeling, and beats.

  • GOD THE FIRST SONG WAS SOOOOOOO GOOD XD

  • boooooooooooo this pedal is wack!!!! and its cheating!

  • These pedals are utter garbage. They are totally uneven sounding, have a heavy feel and drag terribly. I owned two double pedals and tried them for awhile, then finally sold them as they were useless. And I have been playing for over 40 years. Maybe that's the key. If you're just starting out and don't know any better these may work for you because you have to develop a totally different style and approach for them to work for you. I'll stick with my 2 Axis pedals.

  • its just week to use that kind of pedal, cause that means you cant use decent double bass pedal... its like cheating

  • the duallist pedal is cool and all but i like the normal double petal better

  • how are the smart trigger cymbals, are they like the alesis surge cymbals? is there choke capability and bell sounds? and how much can they be? thank you, please reply

  • You have all those ST cymbals and a vh11,why not go with ST Hats?

  • How do these pedals work??

  • finally a pedal for amputees...

  • Unless you can play this with a regular double pedal I consider this cheating.

  • @wiirluvenit

Oh good, because we all wanted to know what the fuck you were thinking. It's not fucking cheating you dumb ass fuck. Music is not a competition. If new technology lets someone make a sound they like, who the fuck is some cunt hole faggot such as yourself to some out of the wood work and say something is cheating? By your logic, a normal double bass pedal is cheating. Get another drum. Or is that cheating? Have a faster foot then. Fucking dumb-fuck bitch. Go kill yourself.

  • @xXDr00dXx

I have 3 kicks to be exact i set them all up on singlesand play the third pedal with my cock would you like the position to be taken by your face...if not i bid you a good day sir and yes drumming is a competition

  • @wiirluvenit

Niel Peart doesn't "beat" Phil Rud at drumming. You must be some sick, twisted, small-dicked pussy to be so insecure of yourself that you need to turn art into a sport where you need to win. Do us all a favor and never eve sit down a drum kit ever again, because music does not need some arrogant little prick like you spewing forth judgmental falsehoods such as "drumming is a competition".

  • are they the smart triger cymbals? Have you had any problems with pealing? Im thinking of converting an acostic kit to electric in the same way, does it create the same acostic feel? what trigers are you using?

  • Hi

You are correct, they are Smartriggers Cymbals.

I've only had a fault with one of my eight Smartriggers and the problem is with glue seeping. I've not had any peeling.

The sense of feeling is far closer to that of an acoustic kit.

    I use Roland RT triggers.

    Hope that helps.

  • Thanks :D im looking into doing that with my kit at the moment, when i get the money, how do smarttrigers compare to normal cymbols?

  • bigger than the starter ones tho...

  • Why are so many people assholes on here...There is no need to critique the man...IT IS JUST A VIDEO! GOD I WANT TO KILL HUMANITY!

Hey man, Nice set...sounds amazing, great tones! I don't know...It almost seems like it would be easier to use a double bass pedal but then again I never tried this guy out. But nice vid!

  • Ill give ya about $40 bucks for that (electronic?) customed drum set you got there :D

  • i still dont get how this would be cheating??? to me double bass pedal seems alot easier than that.

  • no offense to anyone but I think the dualist is for inexperience drummers who can't do regular double pedal and keep the beat right and stay on tempo, no offense thats just what i think

  • "No offense"???

You are correct that I don't play double pedal, but perhaps I have no desire to as I use the hi-hat a lot for accents.

After a 24 year break from drumming, I don't think my timing is that bad, sure it needs some work, but if you say it is that bad, I guess it is! :0)

  • You suck

  • that pedal is much harder than double bass. i just bought a duallist and it sucks but its definately not easy. double bass is tots better

  • @SuperJasper33 u can also buy the triple pedal, it has another pedal attached like a regular double bass.

  • @SuperJasper33

I've actually used dualists and it takes a different technique to get clean doubles out of them, have you ever played them?

  • you have a big ass drum kit just gonna throw that out there xD

  • I didnt like it after an hour of playing with it, i agve it a fair shot. just not for me plain n simple

  • ok its not cheating you cant cheat in music this isnt a game dumbshits the people who complain are those who get showed up by people with this pedal or cant afford it if your gona cry about drums and your a drummer get the fuck outa here

  • ware did you get the 16 inch mash head foor you floor??

  • Hi

It is a 14" floor tom and a standard Roland 14" head.

  • basically to sum of the "duallist" its...well CHEATING to fucking system of double bassing!

  • there's not cheating on drums, this pedal is just making someone who doesnt have enough skill to play double bass well enough have that double bass sound with their playing, i dont like it, but its not cheating, its just a way for less talented drummers to play like they are more talented then they actually are

  • if what you say is true then you should definitely have one because you are not talented in any sense of the word. and im being generous with my opinion of your playing. really, take up another activity like watching tv or napping.

  • Have you picked up on how stupid that sounds? If they're not talented enough to do double bass the natural way, they should practice more or just play singles. If you like hi-hat accents and double bass, get a longboard and learn heel-toe. There really is no good excuse to own that pedal.

  • What if you have one leg??

  • Then you'll have to choose between hats and bass anyway. Assuming one chooses bass, you can do double bass with one foot with the heel-toe technique. Tim Waterson uses it, and he can play single bass faster than I can double with that technique. Again, there really isn't an excuse to own this, besides "I can afford it."

  • @johnstarsh Then don't buy two pedals, hurr durr.

  • its cool and i would like to try one out but never own it

  • How does the Duallist even work? I know you step down and that is one hit, and does the second hit come when the foot board goes back up?

  • That's correct, one hit on the down stroke, another on the up stroke.

Once you get dialled into it, you can of course vary that pattern.

  • Ahhh. Alright. I thought you would have to use heel-toe with it, but I believe that its the Duallist Triple.

    Thanks!

  • i just wouldnt like this pedal much, say if i jam on someones elses kit and they dont have one of these, and its all im use to then i dont think i would be able to bust out much. these just dont have the hype that regular pedals do....so im gonna have to go with CONTROVERSIAL GADGET

  • A fair point, but if you were doing a kit share show, do you not normally take your own key elements like snare and pedals etc?

  • well, i would. but i have never been to a kit share show as my kit isnt a pretty sight. i dont know, it just doesnt sound as 'challaging' as a regular double kick pedal. i mean, why reach these speeds with 3 beaters, when you can do it with 2.
