Update on my 3900eft and for the benefit of other owners, wound up the fm mod and slapped on my jcd base mic and now i'm getting much improved reports from my budski's on the air !! Many thanks to Cobra guys for the solid advice and guidance !!

Can the Cobra team do anything about the crappy fm modulation on the eft? If not, i'm gonna have to sell mine, my 35yr old cobra 148 gtl dx beats it with a big stick!

@reddog694uk - Quick fix, use an Astatic Teardrop MOD. 575-M6 microphone, audio then sounds stunning. Long term, we have a multi-component modification, which transforms the FM modulation. It will sound at least as good as a Cobra 148GTL-DX with the stock mic.

Problem with a uk board in this is, and by the way i would like one myself, that the frequency counter isn't a frequency counter, it's merely a display reflecting the programmed data stored in it's memory, feel free to correct me if i'm wrong cobra guys.

@reddog694uk Not sure where you got your information?? The frequency counter is a "true" counter i.e. the frequency is read direct from the VCO in the 3900EFT. UK legal board is not required as all the UK40FM channels can be easily obtained from the radio in Export mode.

The 3900EFT uses PLL's so anything is possible. We have no plans for a UK40FM Eprom board for the EFT. All the UK40FM channels are quite easily attainable on the EFT using the Frequency counter. Regards.

Yes it can, a recent mod will allow 27.60125Mhz - 27.99125Mhz in 40 Channel increments, eg. Ch-19 reads 19.

I believe the SWR meter has auto-calibration, meaning the rig calibrates the SWR meter electronically. Regards Cobraworxshopz

Hi, The 3900EFT is exactly the same radio as the Cobra 148FGTL-DX+ and the Connex 4800DXL-E, all made by Ranger Electronics, all have the Ranger EPT-6900 chassis inside. The "QC" Quality Control is not great, i.e. cosmetic condition but the build quality is good and exactly what you would expect from Ranger. Cobraworxshopz rate the 3900EFT even if from new, they may have the odd scratch or dink, the performance is Superb.

Hi,

The entire rear of the chassis is actually the heatsink on the EFT.

It is available from Ranger but will only fit 6900 chassis like the EFT.

You can't easily install one to a 148 or 360FM without cutting the entire rear of the chassis out.

The 3900 is basically the same as the 148/360FM and the heatsink from the EFT can not be installed without major work.

Hi,

The SS-3900EFT is manufactured by RANGER USA based on the EPT-6900-11D Chassis. A Standard SS-3900 uses EPT-3600-*** Chassis.

All are based on the original UNIDEN PB-010AB Chassis.
