I quit bowling almost 20yrs ago.ABC quit showing bowling and I lost interest. I discovered you tube and saw my heroes of the past and now i'm back bowling again. Thanks to people like you posting these game. Thanks so much!
My sentiments EXACTLY! Although I have tried to keep up with the latest goings-on via ESPN, the PBA - with the exception of the N Dukes and P Bohn IIIs - just ain't the same...
Me too! Mind you, I'm from Massachusetts and was a candlepin player for 15 years before I gave it up 9 years ago, but I did used to watch both local candlepin shows and the PBA tour stuff too! Now that I live in Michigan these videos are spurring me to take up tenpins.
This is awesome! Compare the styles of these two guys to what you see on bowling telecasts today. It's almost like you're watching two different sports--and, in a way, I suppose you would be. Accuracy was king back in Pappas' and Soutar's day.
As bad as the scores were (I believe there were only 14 folks over 200 average for the week) what Soutar did was on TV that day was absolutely phenomenal. Probably one of the best, underrated performances of the PBT.
From the way Pappas' ball entered the pocket on that shot, I could tell (as the ball was approaching the pins) that he was gonna leave a 10-pin. It was a strong hit, but not quite as high flush as his shots in the previous 2 frames, both of which he struck on.
Thank you for posting this wonderful match. Those were the days!!!

Would like to see a video of Ed Ditolla's match. He drilled my equipment for many years.

I didn't keep all the matches from these old telecasts. Ed Ditolla wasn't someone I was interested in, so I didn't keep his match. Sorry.

Towsend, Maryland. Just north of my hometown, Silver Spring. Do they still hold tournaments in the D.C. area?

I must say that was a very exciting finish!

In my opinion, George Pappas should have reracked on his first ball in the 10th frame as the pins appeared off spot.

Which pins did you think were off spot?

Good stuff ! Thanks for posting !
Do you happen to have the 1977 Fair Lanes Open from Springfield, VA. ? I was AT that event and sitting right behind the alternate pro bowler.
