The interesting scene was in the next episode, I believe, when she tries to pawn off getting rid of him on Rory.

@specialk2112 she loved him but didn't feel ready to change her life so dramatically... later into the series she explains to rory that she feels like every time she gets into a good relationship she runs away from it. one of the lines is 'I think I'm destined to be a spinster.'
