  • Me recuerdan a las caricaturas al tocar el piano

  • Don't know how many times I've seen this bit. No superlatives would be enough to define these geniuses, so I'll keep enjoying them over and over again. And again.

  • the timing of this bit is fantastic, one of the absolute highlights of the film

  • A testament to when Hollywood actually required talent.

  • vraiment de l'humour a l'ancienne :)

  • chico marx etait un surdoué du piano. les marx brothers et leur comique loufoque j'adore.

  • I LOVE THIS SCENE!!! I CAN WATCH IT OVER AND OVER AND OVER! =D

  • Marx Brothers are not died! ;_;

  • I wouldn't call anything about this preternatural. It comes from an era where things like musical knowledge/ability and culture were encouraged instead of being cut from school due to lack of intelligence (or funding I suppose) on society's fault. This is amazing and I truly wish movies were still like this instead of about "actors" that can't really do anything besides act in 1 genre.

  • @BioPhreak While you're right in saying that musical talent was more likely to be encouraged in the era in which the Marxes grew up, you're wrong in saying that they learned anything about it in school. Only one of the five Marx brothers finished school. Harpo never graduated 2nd grade. Chico had one or two years of piano lessons at home. Other than that, both Chico and Harpo were entirely self taught.

  • Tre Bien, no matter in what country or in what language as I always said (2) heads are better than (1).

  • six peoples own pianola business

  • sooooo coolllllllll

  • Harpo and Chico should have been playing for QRS.

Seriously. I haven't seen one 'Mama Yo Quiero' roll yet.

  • I make skits that are chock-full of puns and one-liners, please take a look and let me know what you think! I'm a huge fan of The Marx Brothers and want to reach out to an audience who likes that sense of humor

  • After a lousy day at work, I just came home and watched this. Now I'm in a great mood. 2 minutes of Chico and Harpo is all it takes.

  • I basically re learned some of my piano songs so i could use my hands like that! Chico is amazing! Only learned the right hand to songs. GOSH!

  • Harpo,,, what a guy,,, He could have hundreds of people rolling on the floor laughing without ever uttering a word. How times have changed.

  • =)

  • which movie is this?

  • These are the kinds of movies that should be shown in today's schools. maybe then some kids will finally see what true talent really is. and maybe have a good laugh too. :)

  • BRAVO !!!!!

  • Correction. Starting at 0:45 is the section I was referring.

  • @ev0rmast0rmind Just look at Harpos left hand. When he's playing the two notes back and forth, you can hear the low note when his finger is pressing the upper part of the register. It's most evident around 3:08. It would be more evident if you played the piano. Also, it's a known fact that Harpo only knew how to play about 2 songs on the piano, and I'll bet it wasn't a 4 hand piece. Sorry to burst your bubble; however Harpo does an excellent job of faking it. Had me fooled at first.

  • @ganymedeSLKDJF HOWEVER.. He's got to be VERY well schooled in music in order to play (or fake it), in such perfect time. I'm not convinced either way. (Now I'll have to watch it over and over again to try and figure out what's going on!)

  • @Humormonger A better example would be at the 1:00 minute mark after Chico slaps Harpos hand, Chico begins playing while Harpo hands aren't on the piano but the left hands part can still be heard. Harpo does obviously have a musical background from the harp, but he originally wanted to be schooled in the piano. I'm sure he's taught himself a few things in that regard, but I'm convinced he's mimicking this part. BTW, I play the piano too and am a Huge Marx Brothers fan.

  • It appears to me that Chico is actually playing but Harpo is not, but doing a fine job of faking it. His part must have been dubbed in.

  • @ganymedeSLKDJF he's playing.

  • Funny an great. I could listen for hours.

  • This song was in a Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis film,

but both versions are very funny!

  • @chevalier947 "ARE THEY REAL?" ... I cant' believe what Im reading. Of COURSE they were real, and no more multi-talented individuals ever LIVED. Their notoriety is LEGENDARY, for Heaven's sake. Embrace the culture that's around you, people.. PAST and PRESENT. It's LIFE.

  • @TheInvincibleViolet You're a fucking idiot. He wasn't actually asking if they were real. Dipshit.

  • @McSqueaky I will thank you not to cuss at me, you freaking idiot. Who do you think you are? Get away from me and shut up.

  • @TheInvincibleViolet Retarded.

  • Really fantastic,...

  • I'm not convinced that Harpo actually played in this - Chico's playing seems to line up, but only the simple stuff seems to match Harpo's playing. I know he played the piano a little, but I'm not at all sure that he could play stuff of this complexity. (That being said, the accompaniment he plays at the beginning is pretty rudimentary.)

  • @NewhamMatt Youve got to be kidding me.. He actually played it alright, and by the way, have you ever heard him also play his harp? It would bring tears to your eyes. Yes, he IS really playing it, not like the fake crap that's generated in THIS day and age. Do some research; you'll be ashamed that you ever doubted the 'real-ness' of the Marx Brothers' talent when you finish.

  • I love Harpo So much so cute...and Chico is very talented. Thanks for posting

  • Love how Harpo comes out of nowhere with the little bit of fancy playing...it sounds great!

  • Magical comedy!!!

  • Thanks for the video. I want to know wich is the film from ?

  • @fileasfogg2 It's from The Big Store

  • I think I need to watch some marx brothers stuff. Very entertaining.

  • No comedy like this today, especially musical comedy. I only hope this survives the test of time. It seams to have so far, with a few.

  • Wow. Fantastic. Thank you, thank you, thank you...

  • pleas can someone help me? i search for the name oft the song on the end of this video starts at 2.40min

  • comedic and musical brilliance. i would love to be a fly on the wall at their practice sessions. i wish i knew more about their upbringing...were they classically trained?

  • @MirandaFsJones They taught themselves, most of the time.

  • comedic and musical brilliance. i would love to be a fly on the wall at their practice sessions.

  • comedic and musical brilliance. i would love to be a fly on the wall at their practice sessions.

  • iu wud kill to play piano like him :O

  • A true classic, the most memorable talent in history.

  • I love when Harpo kicks Chico's butt in the end lol

  • Hi fellow MB freaks! I invite you to enjoy my new master class on the music of Chico and Harpo. Free, hilarious, and very educational! Type in "Dave Frank" Marx on Youtube.

    Dave Frank

    Assoc. Prof, Piano Dept.

    Berklee College of Music

  • Play it, good man!!!

  • Génial !!!

  • Son los mejores de la historia del cine en genero de la comedia

  • Shear genious!

  • Where on earth is this standard of talent nowadays?

  • I love the Marx Brothers and I'm so glad to be able to view and listen

to their amazing talents via YouTube ! Thank You.

  • Love watching Chico and Harpo do their thing together. They were at their best when they were playing off of each other.

  • I sing about the Marx Brothers in The Celebrity Song.

  • In which movie is this in?

  • @DIEKINS The Big Store. It's pretty good. Just watched it on TCM the other day yo

  • Very Cool.

  • HAHAHAHAHA!

    this is stupendous 〠♡〠

    outrageous!

  • How lightly his fingers move about that piano!

  • They weren't really playing.

  • obviously you dont play piano, as that would be harder to fake then to learn. People that fake it dont have perfect form, also they usually arent noted for their musical abilities. Look it up, chico played piano in a whorehouse when he was 12. Victor Borge was perfectly capable of playing and being funny at the same time.......

  • Well, as a matter of fact I do play piano and they were not playing. I do know that they both could play several instruments but they were not playing live on tape. Look closely and you can see for yourself. Unless you don't play piano.

  • Well, I do play and I guess we disagree lol I do Agree that there was an overdub as is made obvious by the other instruments, but penatonically it seems that their hands are always moving in the right dirrection and ballance wise, those are piano hands.

  • Well one thing I'm sure we agree on is that the Marx Brothers were the greatest. They could do it all! I really enjoyed this video and now my 11 year old son has seen many of them and laughs like crazy when he watches them.

  • Wrong.

  • The Marx brothers were just brilliant !!

  • All you no talent, so-called entertainers of today, take note. This is how you entertain people. Real entertainment and real talent.

  • still some of my favorites after decades and will be for all my days. thanks gentlemen.

  • few people alive today can play as well as Harpo could

  • this type of talent has been swept under the rug and i hate people for it.

  • Geez they were good, I think I need a fix of an evening of Marx Brothers movies.

  • My favorite comedians from the 30's. long live the marx brothers.I would've have lovedto have seen them do their vaudeville act in the 20's.

  • it's rock 'n' roll dude

  • Are the Marx Brothers for real? This is the fifth video in a row I have seen of their preternatural musical/ acting/ vaudeville talent. I can't believe these guys existed. Mesmerizing/ ethereal/ amazing

  • LoL, yea they're for real. Extremely talented brothers. I grew up watching their old films, i think they are the true kings of comedy

  • exactly,. the marx brothers were the funniest then, and basically created slapstick comedy,. Its ashame they get lost in the times as they pass. I also remember watching them as a kid,. Waht kids dont like today is these movies are B/W and they have no hiphop sound track in the BG (background) nothing but crackling analog tape and hiss

  • Never heard a better statement that sums up the Marxes: preternatural... ethereal... you got that right!

  • @chevalier947 Yes they did! They started out as a musical act and they kept adding comedy in and then started doing movies. You should look into them if you like the clips you will not be disappointed! :)

  • @Camianification thank ya

  • Does anyone you know the name of the song they played?

  • mamma yo quierro

  • they are incredible! their fingers can move so fast!

  • Thank you for the Great post

  • no even when he was on stage origanally any way he could only play "waltz me around again, willie" and @love me and the world is mine"

  • It appears we've been reading the same book. By the way, remember his account of Chico's first piano teacher, who only taught Chico to play the melody line, because she didn't know how to play with both hands? One can see her influence in this video, can't one?

  • One can. But it is still great. If you have been reading Harpo speaks we have been reading the same book.

  • that is what i'd call working a crowd....outstanding

  • Harpo never had lessons.originally he could only play two songs. This however was before he was on stage

  • what marx brothers episode was this??

  • the big store

  • you can tell that harpo's actually pretty good at the piano

    hes just acting stupid

  • Oh me oh my, just SO funny - and talented. The Marx bros. are the best !

  • 2:56 xD

  • Amazing

  • I wonder if the marx brothers were some inspiration for victor borge

  • they have a completely different way of being funny

  • Although Borge was born 20 yrs after the Marx's, the Bros didn't become world renowned until after Borge created his own act. However, if either "borrowed" from the other, I think it's fair to say that it worked out for the best!

  • Well thats something i didn't know. In anycase i agree, It is for the best. Watching one just reminds me of the other.

  • Mega talent. Check the girls swooning in the background. Chico was quite the ladies man. That dude could pull...

  • amazing. the marx brothers started something great that noone could finish.

  • this was a time when "talent" was actually talented!!!

    :D

    <3

  • Love it, Love it. That so great. Fantastic both of them on Piano....

    Amazing...

  • Incredible!!! It was impossible for those guys to miss a beat! Their musicianship alone stands as a tribute to their great genius ...then add comic timing!!! Unbelievable!!!

  • Awesome. The both of them are so cool, I just loved it

  • awesome! i cry with laughter at the bits when chico plays the lully a by music and harpo goes 2 sleep on his shoulder :P and when hes laughing whilst slamming the keys lmao gr8

  • This just laughed me out of a hangover. Wohooo!

  • What is the name of the song he's playing?

    D:

  • "mamae eu queiro mamar" for the song at 2:45ish. I'm pretty sure.

  • 1:12 - 1:14 lolz

  • which movie?

  • the Big Store! Fantastic movie

  • My God, there was no end to their talents. Incredible.

  • Adorable :D Harpo's expressions are so heartwarming!

  • Fantastic dut... and yes Harpo played piano all his life. The music was not prerecorder" as such , but the synching of the soundtrack and film did not alwyas match up. They are really playing that. There would not have been any stand-in players for Harpo. Long Live the Marx Brothers!

  • That second word should be "duet" -sorry.

  • i know ive heard harpo's only an amateur pianist but his playing always confuses me... he can definitely play the fast runs in rach's prelude in c sharp min. but at 1:15 you can see harpo is clearly not playing the notes you are hearing and his hands aren't even in the right octave. I always wonder how much marx music is prerecorded? all of it? shed some light someone

  • Arte allo stato puro... Questi sono attori nati più di 100 anni fa e fanno ridere ancora... Viva viva Groucho Chico Harpo!!!

  • Very Nice !

  • andoneandtwoandthreeandfour.... Where's the merrygoround....there can't be one, because by the end, the kids would be flying all over the place, loveit. It's so funny.

  • I can play like that as well... I'm just "hiding it", thats all...

Hence, I am an "undiscovered talent".

Nobody ever sees me play, and no one ever complains... its great!... and it works a treat too.

Oh yeah... I'm sorry, but I don't do "requests". I have a reputation to protect you know!

Besides, I don't wanna put a note out of place when theres important people around, get what I'm saying?

    ;-D

  • R.I.P Harpo Marx died from a heart open surgery i LOVE YOU he is so cute

  • my old music teacher used to go on at me about not holding my hands right when we were using the keyboards. I think if she'd played chico marx clips at the beginning of each lesson, I would have cared enough to listen to her. I always hated piano and keyboard so i never actually learnt it, but now I've discoverred Marx Brothers, chico makes me want to learn!

  • See all the pretty girls in the backgound? Chico had the reputation of being a womaniser!

  • To bad we didnt have talent like this today.

    Carl Slicer, Vernon, CT

  • Genious. Why can't we have that now?!

  • pure brilliance!

  • This is my absolute favorite marx brothers song. Everytime I hear it, it gets stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

  • Hard to believe that Harpo was completely bald. He was the faithful husband while Chico had any woman he wanted. Harpo adopted four kids with his wife. May he RIP

  • Harpo was not bald, you can see some of his home videos here on youtube, he had black hair like Chicos, look closely in this clip, and you can see it at the back of his head when his wig raises up a little. ;)

  • My info came from IMDB and a biography of Groucho by Charlotte Brooks. Also, he was my grandfather's neighbor in California. Anyway, he was just a nice person and enjoyed life.

  • Now THAT'S entertainment! :-D

  • Anyone know the name of the song Chico is playing?

  • It's "Mama Yo Quiero" :)

  • Thanks.

  • Amazing! Nothing tops the playing of Chico Marx! AMAZING DUET!!!!

  • Incredible performance! These two brothers had more talent in their big toes than 99% of performers today. I can't imagine anyone today doing this act (not to mention their regular comic genius stuff). WE SORELY MISS THEM!

  • Some more Jewish brother WITH GREAT TALENT

    APPLAUSE

  • that's the big store

  • Best duet EVER!! :-)

  • thats the big store movie

  • whats this movie of marx brothers?

  • 'The Big Store'

  • Just wonderfull !!!

  • MAGNIFICENT.!!!!!

  • Impresionante...realmente impresionante..

  • They are adorable. You can really see the brotherly love between them.

  • What song is that? And which movie is that from?

  • This scene w/ Harpo & Chico gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

  • LOL...you have to watch carefully to see that Harpo is actually playing only one key at a time.

  • Yeah, Harpo plays like me! (I favor the one-fingered technique or the approach simply known colloquially as BASH-BASH-BASH! It's the best way to play piano. It helps if you've never had a lesson.. or are a cat.) ;)

  • Fantastic

    Thanks

  • Absolutely brilliant. Musical and comedy genius!

  • This is one of my favourite scenes ever.
