  • ça fait un bruit de tondeuse à gazon

  • IIRC this is A/C 238 or so..a "B" model....I worked on it at the plant in WPB FLin late '86 or early '87...my stamp is on one of inside panels in the 'baggage' compartment.

  • 10-4 that. My bad did not see it. I ajusted my screen res and you're right there it was.

    Thanks for that.

    Fly safe!!!!!

  • Beautiful ship

  • Turbine powered helos have whats called a turboshaft eng. I has a takeoff shaft that provides power to the rotor system. via a transmission. It in turn powers the main rotor via an vertical shaft and the tail rotor via the tail rotor shaft. I know this for a fact as I,m a frmr. U.S.C.G. AD3 Sikorski HH52a Flt. Mech./SARcrewman.1&1/2 years HU16e Grumman Albatross followed by 4 years on helos. 4 rescues(Winged S,s from Sikorski).

  • Good as far as it went, without the t/o it's nothing though.

  • the tail says ninj add an A lol

  • I hate the new Sikorsky helicopters! I like the old ones! i LIKE TO KEEP IT RETRO!

  • fünf sterne,five stars *****

  • what's the interest to see starting outside the cockpit?

  • The S-64 skycrane is louder than this.

  • @christychackojohn and so?

  • so what?

  • Nice I work for a company making parts for sikorsky

  • Do Sikorskys spin their tails faster than most? As it comes up to speed to taxi, it sounds more like a turboprop than a helicopter. Sounds fast before it even starts moving. I love it!

  • The tail rotor on the S-76 is giagantic, that might explain some of the noise. Plus as they taxi away it requires a lot of force from the tail rotor to turn the aircraft on the ground.

  • @jmaugham

at 107%Nr since the "B" models operate 7% higher than the A's

  • @jmaugham < Helos turn on the ground by actually STEERING the front wheel not by tail rotor. Look close and you can see the front steering in THIS VIDEO. That Sikorsky is a big bird with a lot of power and her main rotor blades have a substantial chord thus requiring a large diameter tail rotor to produce the required anti-torque effect.

  • @bymorningslight

if i remember right the tail rotor RPM of this model is around 1400. main rotor 393 RPM

  • @bymorningslight i think it is to do with the angle of attack of the spinning blade.

high angle of attack equals a slapping noise, obviously at very high rpm, so instead of a slap you get 100 every slaps a second. like blowing against the egde of a sheet of paper. i dont know the exact speed of sikorsky chopper tail rotors but all helicopters must have the same ratio of force to counteract the main rotor torque. however if the tail rotors are bigger than others thier rpm can be slower.

  • Very nice sound (a bit typical Sikorsky) and a very good clip-quality. Is it possible for you to give us some more clips of the s-76-class, perhaps a landing heli with slow stopping engine?

    Thank you!!!

  • i know that helicopter! thats southstar....a medical/ state police helicopter, ma gmom used to work with them, theyre good people

  • Man that tail rotor really howls. Looks like it has a higher gear ratio than a lot of helis. Beautiful chopper.

  • uk used there over 4 mil

  • what a crazy start up sound.

  • Opppps, someone skipped a step on the start-up ck-list.

Hint, before you even engage the starter one must fire up the strobe/ anti-collision lights...to warn all that you're fixing to fire her up. oh well maybe next time.

    But she is a beauty....Thanks

  • The strobe at the top of the tail clearly flashes prior to the start motor spooling up.

  • @jmaugham

Plus the white strobes are run off the DC primary bus of the applicable engine. The red anti collision is off the essential bus powered by the batt... so during start up, until the engine either engine reaches self accelerating speed, all yer gonna have is the red anti coll light...

  • @jmaugham, My bad, you were right after I adjusted my screen resolution yup, I saw it. Sweet looking bird.

    Thanks.

  • its like a lynx engine

  • Great video ! with a tripod ?

  • that was fast.

  • with the modern FADEC systems they have they can do it that fast.

  • the plane my sister and i fly has FADEC (diamond star DA-42)

  • Best sound at 6am every morning

  • I had A nice 25 minute ride in it one year ago to Lady of lourdes. Beautiful .

  • i don't get ur comment in the description of the video - "more people nearly killing themselves in the summer". What does that mean?

  • The helicopter is used to transport injured patients to the trauma hospital. Summertime sees a lot more trauma type accidents.

Motorcycles, drunk driving car accidents, boating accidents and drowning, etc...

  • We have a Bell 430 =)

  • Nice, my friend drive Bell 230. Now my friend want get new one Bell 430 but sad it was out of production. So He end want sikorsky S-76. I will missed good Bell 230.

  • @jmaugham - It is also used to transport cardiac patient's to cardiac specialty centers and CVA/Neuro (stroke) patient's to neuro specialty centers. Scene flights, most of which are trauma's, are indeed a large part of what aeromedical in NJ does. Southstar, based out of Virtua/Voorhees, covers southern NJ, while Northstar, based further north, covers northern NJ. There are several other ships throughout the state, Medevac 5 out of Hammonton, Pennstar, etc. Summers do see increases in trauma.

  • o and btw great quality video. They have an awesome sound thats different from most helicopters. Make some more videos of it :)

  • these are great helicopters. I saw one (n9nj) land at cape may and take off

  • Cool video!!

  • Beatifully steady camera, great video.

  • nice !!! I was flying Schwiezer yesterday. this one would be nice to fly

  • i love sikorsky s-76s. Our State' Children's Hospital has 2 of these babies. i love them.

  • I see (and really HEAR) this bird almost every day at work - I work at Cooper in ICU step down on the 10th floor - right beneath the heliport. Sometimes we have 3-4 alerts a shift, and more in the summer. Nothing like the sounds of a Sikorsky, always music to my ears!

  • Suh-weet sound! Muchas Gracias.

  • I ran out of battery before getting the liftoff. Sorry.
