I'm not really sure who to ask but i was hoping you could help, i really want guinea pigs but i also want ferrets .. I know that guinea pigs are prey and ferrets are predators but why does a guines pig / skinny pig make a better pet , in your opinion? ( i know they ar every different but i neeed someones opinion..)
@iceecreamivana I know nothing of ferrets. I just know they seems more playful and interactive than guinea pigs. Guinea pigs are great pets for snuggling on your lap but they aren't a pet you could expect to want to play and pay attention to you a lot. Where as ferrets seem to be more involved with their owners. Guinea pigs take a certain person to understand and enjoy them. It would just depend what type of pet you want...do you want one you can play with lots or a more delicate creature.
@skinnypigs1 thanks for your advice, its definetly going to help! but i think im still going to reaserch on both, just to be sure (im leaning more on the ferret side) but i love your videos and you pigs <33333
@iceecreamivana No problem. I just know some people get pigs thinking they look so cute and fun, which they are, but just not always the type of "fun" people think, they are nothing like dogs or cats. Not even hamsters. They are delicate, they need lots of maintenance, lots of different foods and don't always want to be held or bothered.
@Guineapigfied I should say that I only clean a couple of my guys backs. Barnaby and Rugby get a lot of oily build up on their backs and their grease glands, where as the other guys don't. So I don't clean the other guys since there is nothing to clean off them.
Hi, sorry if I sound kiddish but, do you feel awkward about cleaning them??!!! I am only 12 and it just feels a bit awkward??? LOL!!!!! But I love the video it is really helpful and it was really imformative!!!
Thanks for the tip on coconut oil. I've used it yesterday to clean my skinny pig Kate's back. She usually gets vert dirty as she can't bend properly to clean herself. The coconut oil did a brilliant job of getting her clean. Much easier than bathing her.
@Zoebabies I'm glad you tried it out. Barnaby is the WORST for an oily back and that is the only thing that wipes him clean without drying him out. I love using it for the other guys if they get a tiny spot of oily skin and for the grease glands. I've never had to bath the skinny pigs, which I am happy about!
You videos made my boyfriend and I want a skinny pig so much. Sadly, we have not had much luck finding a skinny pig around here but we are soon getting a guinea pig. I love your videos and your skinnies.
We have a foster teddy w/ skin allergies her entire back end was practically bald n since keeping her on fleece n aspen n using coconut oil on her skin its almost completely grown back:)
Can you please do a video showing what you use the mineral oil for? I herd you talking about it in previous videos but i don't really get what to do. Thanks for being so informative. :)
@dazzleglass721 I use it to clean out their anal sacs. I can only make a video showing when the time comes that it needs to be done. Calvin once had bedding stuck in his bum basically, it got caught in the sticky stuff and I used mineral oil and a q-tip to work the build up free. It is a two person job because it is very hard to get inside their bum carefully without help.
If you've had males and watched them scent mark, they open up their bum area and drag it across the ground.
@mxbarb7 Only if it is an active grease gland, meaning they get a lot of build up. Mostly boars are the ones with active grease glands and not many females.
well have fun with your guinea pig that does not sit

Awesome! I use dawn soap. I'll have to try coconut oil so that I don't have to wash the pigs everytime!

@petlover324 Coconut oil is really good because it isn't drying :)

@Livelifelikemusic I don't think so, hair probably sticks to it a bit though.

how often do you do this?
RockinThaSoLows 7 months ago
@RockinThaSoLows Maybe once a month if they look grungy. A couple of my pigs haven't even needed it done at all yet.
