1 technique I dont see too many pros use is, dont pocket the 1 ball off the break. It's always in the same spot, so why not miss it in the side, it'll go up table and if you control the cue ball, you'll almost always have a shot at the lowest numbered ball. Since the rack is usually randomized, you have no control where the balls goes unless it's the 1 or the wingball.

I can't do most of the things these guys can do at a pool table. I don't bitch about pool though...i fucking LOVE pool!

I just think you should have to use the angles on a table like in every other cue sport.

I don't think there would be as much acceptance of the jump shot if it weren't for the consideration of the TV cameras and gaining casual viewers.

@lemonite1 thats because that was the key rack in the match obviously. im a very fast player, but when it comes to a key decision i will apologize to my opponent and take quite a while, just to make sure i dont make any mistakes at all. hes a professional. give him a break.

In rack six, I personally would have got position to the right of that seven ball or as close as I could have got to play it in the left hand corner,which would have left me shape to play the eight in the right hand corner. totally agree with you ..And by the way he does know a lot about shots ...I've been listenning to those commentators on "star sports" (I live in asia now) and their knowledge of the sport is pathetic ... its nice to have a voice like Danny to actually be learning properly about pool as you watch those professional events ..wish he was on in Asia as well..

olderbluesfan high run does not matter. his position play and tournament play matter. He's the best position player since Joe Balsis and that is the basis for the statement of "best straight pool player he's ever seen" not ever in existence. Hohmann certainly is on the same level as Willie Mosconi, Luther Lassiter and Joe Blasis, but there really is no best player ever.

and afew others. Fact is Thorsten is nowhere near the dominant straight pool player that each of those guys were in their era's.

Even today I like Ortmann over Thorsten in a long (500+) straight pool match.

Must be a fluke, since Thorsten apologized. What he had in mind was to glance off the bottom part of the 2 and go behind those balls (the 5, 9, 4 - even the 7 if he had hit the 2 real thin, which is risky, as one might scratch into the bottom right corner pocket). Also, you'll notice he would have left a shot at the 2 had he missed (chances of getting a safe with the 3 are slim - not as big a ball to get behind from that angle).
