You can deny those facts and focus on some of the problems we face today (sub-prime collapse caused by Dem deregulation to help people with bad credit). Most of us have been struggling for years, but now that its touching upper America panic sets in. Things like homeownership, affordable health care, job security were NEVER attainable for the average person in my generation anyway!(I'm 40). I am a veteran, have a B.S. degree (means nothing anymore) and don't expect to retire before I'm dead. All you can do is have a cold beer after work and watch Seinfeld reruns.

Clinton handed Bush a recession, which was deepened by 9/11 but then we had 52 months of uninterrupted job and great GDP growth. You can deny those facts and focus on some of the problems we face today (sub-prime collapse caused by Dem deregulation to help people with bad credit). For those of us who deal with reality, it's amazing we haven't had a recession when foreign oil producers have been throttling us with high crude prices. The Bush Tax Cuts worked and revenues to the fed skyrocketed.

The high gas prices are a result of free market forces on a commodity which like water should not be traded on the free market. People depend too highly on gas for market forces to determine the price, it's time for the govt. to step in and control greed.

The policy position of McCain's chief economic advisor is that, notwithstanding all the negative economic indicators, we are all just imagining this downturn and need to sit down, shut up, and stop waiting for handouts. Perhaps McCain should be honest and admit that he and his party agree with Gramm's sentiment, even if only secretly, and, truthfully, always have. They look down on the poor as deadbeats and losers; now just go tell the folks in OH and MI what you really think.

This incredible spike in oil prices reminds me of how California got the "Enron treatment" a few years ago and saw their electricity rates go up 10x in a very short period of time because of the scamming energy crooks manipulating the market.
