I dream to have that same reel to reel... They cost SOOOO much money and they are rare. See the fan? Gotta have it with all that ANALOG HEAT BABY! Sppeechlees on the Eventide... What you pay for that!?
WOW, to see you use that equipment to the extreme extent of it's capabilities, I am speechless..........ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, now the only thing that could possibly top this, would be to take a crap!!!!!!!
old school! Some nice gear for sure. Haven't been in a studio like this in 20 years. I do miss the reel to reel sound. Digital is cheap and easily obtainable eliminating the high cost of a good reel to reel analogue studio, but it's not the same. I'd definitely be interested in cutting some tracks in a studio like this again.
i just bought a tascam da30 mk2 for mastering since i couldnt afford a semi-pro high end reel 2 reel. now i'm planning to buy a TL audio ebony a4 for summing the tracks from two adat machines (16 tracks). i prefer sound with some character, lol.
Analogy was better, Due to the tape saturation nothing else! But the ties are too expensive today, Eventide H8000 only thing that is good. Otherwise, I think most of it smells like swagger with Old analog shit, who the hell cares about the lights, I have worked with the shit for over 20 years. It's under the hood that counts. Add the cash to rent a modern studio so that you avoid the noise + that you have money left for food, because I did not find your disc in the store. "Wannabes"
The TASCAM MS-16 1 inch, recorder (as shown here) is absolutely one of the best all analog recorders in the business!!!! These things were built SOLID, and sound absolutely INCREDIBLE. I wish the recording world was still this way - I fu@%ing HATE DIGITAL!!!!!
It will, take a look at everything around us that once was analog, it is now obsolete, Soon there will be a way to surpass analog sound in the digital domain and that's just facts. Digital recordings have already made leaps and bounds sound quality wise so its only a matter of time. Also, most of my generation doesn't even care about sound quality really, they couldn't tell the difference between analog and digital
you're full of it mate. if digital were really going to surpass analog, then why do I work on a fully analog signal chain at the University of Michigan? we run an API Vision board, and not a control surface. Why? Because it cannot be surpassed. The only thing digital is good for is capturing the final product of something created using analog gear.
The reason analog is more appealing is because of the distortion and compression it adds to the sound. Digital recording is closer to the "truthful" reproduction, meaning that it gives you what you give it. I love the sound of analog recordings, but at the rate our technology is progressing it will be a thing of the past! Digital will eventually surpass it and that's just the way it is. By the way, great studio!
Analog recording I believe to be more realistic, being that you are not depending on sample rates, or pieces of the original sound being picked up by a computer. With digiital recording and samples being picked up, the computer does not take in every single sound. Analog recordings create more warmth then digital, for a better presented bottom end response.
In the ninety's i recorded and mixed a couple of albums in a huge ssl console going to 24 track studer reel recorder!Once you fell the warmth you'll never be satisfy mixing and recording on computers.
I'm in the digital world but if i had the money i would go hybrid!!! I guess i'm a professional and i love quality! Most people that disses analog are hobbyists that rather have a nice car.
There's 2 kinds of fools when it comes to gear. #1, it's old so it must be good. #2, it's new so it must be better. The age of something has nothing to do with its usability. I have all sorts of research showing the shortcommings of a lot of new gear people think is great. On the other hand, I have a lot of research showing the shortcomming of old gear people think is great.
lol the silence indicates a hard on. he played a lick and resumed an infactuation for his equipment he had prior. its obvious he took plung a long time ago and now he does'nt even know where he is musically anymore. that's what I get from this video.
You have some nice equipment, for it's time period anyways. You could use more modern machinery and get way more for your money(if ya know where ta get it 0_^).I also recommend you go get a rack mount. It doesn't have to be anything fancy but it will help with organization and safety. I will say you're good at guitar though. One last thing, no offence, but please learn how to use a camera.
I wanna have a Home Studio. In Sweden is it a band called "Arvingarna" if YOU records a song. So can you do a Demo. Send it to Arvingarna and them shall play that song :)
I have dreams about this kinda stuff. If that'sa home studio, you should go professional. there are a lot of bands that live by analogue studios. White Stripes for instance, plus a bunch of smaller name rockabilly bands. Do you have a website? Nice Django Reinhardt guitar work, too.
Walk to the grocery store...buy lots of food, DONT use bags and walk home. Then go do the same thing exept drive your car to the grocery store and this time and put your food in bags...Tell me which way was easier and just a better way to go..THIS is why people use pro tools instead of all the shit this dude has.
I's say digital technology is to plastic bagging, what analogue is to paper. Honestly if you can't figure out how to eq and press record, or play on time, you should use a computer, but if you actually know what you're doing, and the musicians know what they're doing, than tapes the way to go.
thats a broad claim that tape is the way to go. Digital offers things that tape does not,and vice versa. Ideally you would have both at your disposal. And you're wrong to assume that just because someone records to disk that they are stretching, quantizing, midiizing everything. And sure there are EQ presets but those wont get you very far. you still have to know about frequencies and filters and compression and gating etc...to create a good digital mix.
nahh mate things aint gona go back!!!when was the last time a dj could turn up 2 a club with his whole recored collection in 1 hand????yeah the sound aint as warm, but u think the people dancing and njoying dem selves give a damm???
First of all analog creates a sound no digital recorder has yet to achieve. Second I am extremely glad to see that someone cares enough about this profession to stick to analog and not get caught up in the All easy All digital age.
As for you're studio it is very nice, keep up the good work.

its so hard to find a reel machine that uses wider than quarter inch tape. sometimes i see em on ebay but shipping doubles the price.
there was one studer a810 (1/4 inch though) for sale for 1200 € in my country but i let it slip away. i regret it man

also get some racks for the rack mount gear if you dont have it already. Stacking will lead to overheating and its easier to organize in a rack.
