I think for the money you're paying for the processor its really up to standards. Overclocking? Including dx1 graphics? Quad cores? All in 1 processor and less than $200 (in my country) that's a good bargain.

Also if you search AMD Radeon HD 6550D Battlefield 3 you can see a user just using the on-board graphics on high, a little laggy. So I can imagine just turning the resolution down to 720p and keep it at high and still maintaining playable FPS (30 FPS for higher). For that amount of power PLUS you get 4 cores and lots of overclocking room, best value no doubt.
Linus, I just setup a new machine for my father using this APU, I got 16gb Patriot Gamer Black Edition ram, Antec Neo Eco 450 psu and a 6670 stand alone coming, I loaded Win7Pro up without the dedicated graphics card the other day and this machine smokes for the money. I was inspired by my laptop which has the A8 3500, it has a stand alone graphic also and it smokes to cost me $700 and I can play current release games on it, I recommend this to anyone on a budget or just starting out with gaming
I love the idea of APU overclocking, it's great they are pushing it further. Hopefully this will be further developed, especially with mobile technologies kicking in.

@solarlightning Exactly where did you get a 6100 for $100? Unless it's a reputable dealer/retailer, that price information is invalid. For $200 up Intel blows the competition out of the water. Most people build high end computers for gaming, so of course the 2500k is a logical choice, it's simply the most value oriented gaming processor out there. If you need more multitasking performance, then sure, go for AMD, they offer cheaper high multitask solutions.

Intel vs AMD comes down to your specific needs, I want to game, so I don't go for the 6 core Faildozer, partially because by the time games start using 6 cores, it's going to be a very slow processor. Simple, $140-, go for AMD, their Phenom II processors are very reliable, and better than Faildozer.

If you're a casual gamer (not going to play anything graphically intensive (like BF3 or whatever) then I guess not. But I'd say definitely buy a dedicated graphics card even if you went with an APU regardless since the HD6550D is incredibly weak for gaming.
I'd consider APUs to be for businesses who want cheap machines but good performance...but I'm just a guy with an opinion.
@LordReserei01 Actually, the A8 APU's alone give very playable framerates (In the 30's-50's) in most games on low settings, so I'd consider it a PC version of a console. It's 2 times better than the HD 3000 Intel graphics.
Wow hardware APUs are going to make the things so much simpler and faster at the same time. It reminds me of the weird mix pairing of the Cell but at a much more powerful level.

The A8-3850 was able to run it on laptop resolution and low to medium-low quality I think.
If you can crossfire it, it will enable med-high on the same resolution, or a medium-low on a higher resolution.

@SnipingforNoObS1 Intel wins mostly in high end processors (back in the days Atlhon 64 was faster than any intel chip) but AMD has a great relation about cost/benefit, it means you can buy a good amd processor without braking the bank. Bulldozer was a big failure but with thi APUs i dont see why Amd has to abandon the x86 market. They have been very succesfull in mobile stuff.

How can anyone even argue that AMD is better at this point? Intel have awesome CPU's at all budgets right now. When Ivy Bridge comes out they will be so far ahead of AMD it's not even funny. Btw I'm an AMD fanboy but will be purchasing my first Intel CPU when Ivy launches in April.

@solarlightning Exactly where did you get a 6100 for $100? Unless it's a reputable dealer/retailer, that price information is invalid. For $200 up Intel blows the competition out of the water. Most people build high end computers for gaming, so of course the 2500k is a logical choice, it's simply the most value oriented gaming processor out there. If you need more multitasking performance, then sure, go for AMD, they offer cheaper high multitask solutions.

Intel vs AMD comes down to your specific needs, I want to game, so I don't go for the 6 core Faildozer, partially because by the time games start using 6 cores, it's going to be a very slow processor. Simple, $140-, go for AMD, their Phenom II processors are very reliable, and better than Faildozer.

If you're a casual gamer (not going to play anything graphically intensive (like BF3 or whatever) then I guess not. But I'd say definitely buy a dedicated graphics card even if you went with an APU regardless since the HD6550D is incredibly weak for gaming.
I'd consider APUs to be for businesses who want cheap machines but good performance...but I'm just a guy with an opinion.
