Moeller was a guy, his name was sanford a moeller. the moeller method was named after him because he studied civil war snare drummers who could play blazing speeds with little effort. He then taught it to Jim chapin who taught this method as a secret method, who recently died in 09. the moeller method was used with the hands. Not the feet. lol. More of a push pull like you said in the video. Good vid though
Free drum lessons in their "Bass Drum Boot Camp" showcased this technique in their heel-toe section. It is just an adaptation to make the technique more universal, instead of just restricting it to longboard pedals.
@Justs99171 Don't think that you are so high and mighty, because you aren't. Saying that a technique is garbage is uneducated. Being a musician is about expressing yourself; how you go about doing that doesn't matter. In the words of Freddy Gruber "You only have bad technique when you're hurting yourself". There's another quote that you should learn as well. "Let technique be a toll you use to express your voice, don't let technique become your voice."
you're pedal swing is way too long, i'm sure it hits you in the foot all the time.... adjust that cam angle up just a little so the foot board stops hitting the cam.... you can hear it hitting it throughout all you're videos...
I know this is kinda noobish, but can you post a video explaining the basics on adjusting spring tension? I don't use Axis, but I'm sure i can figure it out with a video regardless
I'm sure it wouldn't take but a second of your time.
Man I gotta learn this but for some reason if I try to do any more than 8th notes, like constant 16th notes like you're doing, I end up leaving my heal up and doing heal up, and I can't keep the technique going. I think I just need more practice. Any advice?
I learned heel toe as something else and I've heard many other people referee "heel toe" as different technique all together!
This technique (I do regret referring to it as toe-heel now) is much more effective than the heel toe technique in my opinion, but I don't think it should be named heel-toe.
I refer to it as the moeller technique on the feet since it resembles the mechanisms!
check out what freddie gruber / steve smith call the "constant release" motion with bass drum. i view it a lot like that...and i do think it is wayy more efficient than heel-toe. i would also agree to call it the "moeller" for the feet. :D
fucking hell to the yes! when they came around with psychostick i had them rip the sleeves off my old school pglove shirt, and sign my vhs copy of hackers, and my ancient snes.

Find your niche, ya know, I honestly don't like this technique too much but I'm just trying to help other drummers build their tool box.
