They used an early hard wired synth and make it work where others of that era made noise. The song though would probably sound much different though if they had never heard Dark Side of the moon which was released a year or two earlier. Like Pink Floyd they mixed new electronics with a tradional sound and wrote a song that could get you through the day if you had some good head phones and a bag of weed. lol If they had been English, or American they might have gotten more credit and air play

This song was originally done by a band called the Golden Earring. I think this band is a cover band called the vanilla fudge

I lived in the Netherlands in the seventies,and those Guys were absolute Heroes there.
