  • I saw something on TV like this. This guy, he had to use the same thing to speak. When he talked for real it sounded like.. Cant explain it but it sounded like the normal thing you would hear if you lost your voice.

  • Ebert, two thumbs down on you. If you showed just a little compassion for the troops, I might be willing to forgive your liberal lies, but you never show anyone but Liberals with respect. Therefor you deserve none.

  • That was a very touching thing to see, he and his wife looked so thrilled and it made me smile throughout. All the best Roger, good health.

  • Great voice even if it does sound like Ebert and Microsoft Sam's lovechild.

  • Spot on Roger!!

  • wow he got them all right! amazing!

  • Poor guy, you gotta feel for the guy

  • Ebert is awesome and as we see, his predictions were dead on accurate. His reviews and friendly battle with his old long gone pal Gene Siskel were the best, (back in the day)-

  • I wish Mr. Ebert all the best. I can't believe some of the mean people that exist in this world. Easy to be rude when you're hiding behind a computer, eh? He's a remarkable man, and I admire his spirit!!! BEST WISHES ROGER EBERT!!!!

  • Yay! Roger Ebert love!

  • i miss roger on the post academy show

  • @Scrivener86, you are so right! I am amazed by Roger Ebert's tenacity and strong will. We all should be inspired by him!

  • What is wrong with people? Why would anyone suggest he "shouldn't be in public because he looks so weird" - seriously? He's endured a great hardship and has managed to stay upbeat and motivated in life. He's only hard to look at if you aren't capable of facing the often brutal reality of life on this planet. He's a good man - even if he gives EVERYTHING a positive review these days - and he deserves more respect than he's getting on here. Should Stephen Hawking stay out of sight too? Sad.

  • kelli zink... god ur so ugly.

  • Oh, it'll never be the same. :(

Good news is, we'll always hear his words in the movie reviews he writes. He still has that wit.

  • ya....he should hide from the public, just like those freaks o and a

how are anthony's hair plugs holding up?

  • that noise at 1:13 freaked me out!!!!!

  • @GoPS3NoXbox360 Um, it's cut-off applause & cheers

  • @sayhellojunk i know but i had the volume up loud and i didnt know what it was right away

  • They need to stop treating him like a kid Ebert's a straight up G

  • why do you say that? because of his rips on palin, teabaggers and republicans?

hate to tell you this, but ebert has always been a staunch liberal and hates everything you wingnut fucks stand for

    LONG LIVE ROGER EBERT

    ALL WINGNUT FUCKS MUST DIE

  • @brabon1 yea palin is a pawn, the teabaggers are fuddyduddy losers and the republicans are lost right now threw away the election on purpose and because of this im not a dem, republican or anything else. its all bullshit!

  • Since you are clearly a mentally stable individual with a robust education, I'll keep this simple:

If Ebert's vision of an American health care system had been in place when he got sick, he would be dead now, since the innovations that kept him alive likely would not exist without market forces to spur their creation.

  • so you are saying that it is the private insurance industry that is the market force that spurs innovation in medicine? because that is what congress is attempting to reform

funny, because their are medical innovations that occur in many other countries that dont have our form of private insurance

  • No, I am saying the concept of government not interfering in medical decisions is driving innovation. The insurance system can be obstructive, but often is less so that direct government involvement. Reform is needed, but Obamacare is exactly the opposite of the most effective approach that will benefit the most people.

  • It's not unheard of for innovations to come from countries with socialized medicine, especially in improvements on existing technologies or in specific medical needs. But the breadth of innovation is best fostered by a free market system. Just look at how Lasik and other elective surgery fields, which often don't fall under insurance, have become not only better over the years, but cheaper too.

  • The tendency in government trends is to put tighter controls on things considered "too important," but this is usually a factor of not having trust in the players involved.

  • Time and again market forces have proven more efficient than government regulation (and please, don't cite the bailout or Wall Street. Those are problems caused by an unhealthy mix of government and market policies, and even if you say government regulation was a good thing there, the fact is we don't know what would have happened without the bailout. The short-term effects would likely be harder, but we as a society would be better off in the long term).

  • like most wingnut fucks...you didnt answer the question

the health care reform is about reforming health insurance

health insurance does not have anything to do with market forces

the health insurance industry is run like a mafia protection syndicate

    you are an idiot

    good day sir

  • btw fucktwit

next time you go to the doctor, go and talk to his billing dept and ask about how they have to deal with private insurers

    market forces my ass

  • Thanks for proving my point, Mr. Ignorant. Your exquisite display of vocabulary is an inspiration to us all.

I'm sure those of us who read what I actually wrote will see the part where I said private insurance is as much an impediment to the market forces. Though private is kind of a misnomer, since government crap like Medicare helps drive costs up by forcing artificial discounts on services.

We need to start by eliminating medicare and instituting savings accounts. But politicians are cowards

  • ya...everyone should fend for themselves and old people should just die

wanna explain to me how a household of four surviving on 40k per year is supposed to have a health savings account?

why is it that you stupid fucks like to put out ideas that have never proven to be workable?

ALL WINGNUT FUCKS ARE EVIL AND MUST DIE

  • So, you lament the death of old people, then wish death on people who disagree with you. I can't help but admire the consistency of your clearly cogent philosophy.

The general idea of health savings accounts is a high-deductible catastrophic insurance plan, and accounts into which money is put each month. Since most people aren't sick all the time, their account builds for years until they need to use it. It's what they use at Whole Foods, and in Singapore. 100x better than Obamacare

  • And exactly why is it wonks like you always want to continue inefficient government programs that do little but empower freeloaders and constrain personal freedoms?

Oh, that's right. You don't understand reality.

Thanks for the chat. I've enjoyed your rational contribution to the national discourse.

  • you make my point. Ebert and people like you get their just deserves. Ebert has always been liberal, yes he has always been stupid and evil.

  • the only evil people in this world, are evil fucks like you

hope you get ass cancer and your brains fall out

  • oh, and its "just deserts" you stupid fucktard

really, how many times did mommy drop you on your pointy head as a child?

  • ebert used to fuck that chocolate messiah oprah

  • Another profound comment. How does it feel to walk through life having everone know that you're a moron?

  • wow, you are all over this video replying to everyone. don't get cunty.

  • mmmm chocolate! Oprahs pretty cute...Id do her.

then take her purse and run.

  • Who says technology can't create miracles? *sniff*

  • Hey, I just wanted to say that I'm impressed as all hell with Mr. Ebert, and his struggle with and triumph over cancer!

Yeah, so his face is somewhat "deformed," but so what? I mean, he's STILL himself, right? I've seen FAR worse-looking people at the local Wal-Mart, and believe-you-me when I tell you that THEIR malformities have had NOTHING whatsoever to do with cancer surgery!

I don't always agree with your reviews, Mr. Ebert, you you have always put the true magic of cinema first!

  • well ONE good thing..the guy has to join the 20th century (at least) and use a fucking COMPUTER...it always pissed me off (and musta pissed off his editors) that the guy insisted on useing a fucking TYPEWRITER for so long after they were obsolete.

  • You're a Wal-Mart shopper, right? I don't care if he writes exclusively with a #2 pencil. It's the result that matters. Beautiful writing!! Whereas your prose, such as "Fucking Computer" & "Fucking Typewriter" probably tell us everything we need to know about you. Dur da dur.

  • PS - perhaps you too should consider the friendly-dwarfism route to greater popularity; then Oprah would have you on her show for all the lonely housewives to admire

  • wtf?! he's Darth Vader now!

    poor guy :(

  • seems like they used standard stock phrases that he had recorded previously, (which sound exactly like him naturally) and then added some computerized conjunctions and such to make a pretty decent life like sound.

Hes never gonna talk again though..does he even HAVE a jaw?

  • @rageohol No, he does not.

  • well how truly ghastly...

  • unreal....he looks like a character from the controversial 1923 film "Freaks".

    ok..that was rude..i admit it..

but seriously, ive been living in Japan..and i knew he was sick..but this is a real shock....I hope he gets better...I never liked him much as a reviewer (he hates all my fave films!) ..but I wouldnt wish that on my worst enemy.

there but for the Grace Of God/Buddha/Allah/Zorkan go I.

  • Well, I had no idea his wife was black...I didn't know George Lucas had a black wife either.

  • i didnt know i was black.....?????????

  • I beg your pardon?

  • wait..YOURE black?

  • well... now you know

  • George Lucas has been 'dating' Mellody Hobson, (Ariel Investments, LLC ) since around 2006. Robert DeNiro is married to a black lady. Judge Richard Jones (Quincy's brother) presided at the wedding.

  • you "sir" know WAAAAY too much about total strangers dating habits...its pathetic.

  • the chick at the beginning is sexy as fuck

  • Dude...Ebert is sexy as fuck

  • what?

    are you into fetishes

  • Interesting, kinda looks like a ventriloquist puppet though!

  • Man I hate to see him like this. Makes me feel really, really bad. He seems to be in high spirits but this is still really sad.

  • Look at it this way: he's alive and can still express himself in writing, be glad for that.

  • its unbeleiveable eh?..i havent seen him for years cuz ive been living in japan..its a total shock

  • The Hurt Locker better not win best picture....

  • You're an idiot!!

  • Pointless Comment; Congratulations

  • Calm down, comic book guy. Get back to your Star Trek convention, and continue to be gay somewhere else.

  • said the guy obsessed with a movie critic!

  • I'm obsessed? Well, what are you doing here?

  • Trying to see what's going on with Roger Ebert

  • And how do you know this?

  • so what you're saying is that he'd have to pay for it himself, like he already is doing?

  • Obamacare? Why do you retard conservatives always have to inject politics into everything? You make me fucking sick.

  • Actually, nobody remembers that besides you because most people don't consider anonymous comments on the internet that big a deal, at least not something you should get butthurt over and use as an example to generalize a group of people.

  • But I have to - I love it, I love that CONFLICT! I thrive on it.

  • I understand, that's how trolling works.

  • GOOD then we understand each other.

  • now THATS funny! ;)

  • wow how sad but lucky, he has been such an inspiring reviewer, but now its hard for him to speak at all. At least his reviews seem just as sharp as they always have been. But its sad that he has physically deteriorated from cancer, I hope things keep improving for him now that he has a voice that resembles him.

  • I wonder who he used to do that. Neospeech has the most amazing English text to speech voices I have ever heard

  • This is in response to Irishbrodie: Roger Ebert is my living hero for the following reasons: his writing's divine, his sense of humor beyond compare, his appetite for living surpassed only by his compassionate and generous nature - he's been sober for God knows how many years, and he makes better the lives of all those he touches with his huge heart.

  • Its so remarkable and sad how different Ebert looks- I remember watching his show 5 years ago and I almost couldn't believe that that is Roger Ebert.

  • That's a strong man. I wish him and his wife nothing but the best. Stay strong Roger, you're doing great!

  • Is his wife "mother love"?

  • Wow, that's truly amazing. Thumbs up for today's technology!

  • wow i had no idea ebert looked like this, poor guy.

  • I didn't know that he was that sick either (he must've been really sick since he lost a lot of weight). I've had cancer (but I'm better now) & it's really bad to live with. I'm so shocked that the tech is out there that he can still talk like that-it's a miracle!

  • holy shit, didn't even know this happened to him

  • I haven't seen Ebert in a long time since I was a kid. I didn't even know he have cancer either. But I'm glad he's doing well.

  • wow is all I can say. Big ups to Roger

  • thats a big improvement, good story

  • Roger is a true inspiration..His writing on his daily journal is the best you can find anywhere..He and Chaz are a remarkable couple.

  • Yeah this is one guy ive always liked for movie reviews. The technology is incredible on how they made his new voice.

  • This man is a great soul, and one of the best writers in the world. In any category.

  • I'm really happy for him, he can sort of speak again. I know it isn't perfect but his eyes look happy, good on him

  • I knew he's been ill but had no clue how much radical surgery had been done. Poor guy... Gutsy dude.

  • It's beautiful to see the relationship he has with his wife. Truly, though sickness and health...<3

  • Bravo! I give Roger Ebert two thumbs up for his courageous struggle!

  • did he have throat cancer?

  • I believe he had thyroid and salivary gland tumors.

  • @Sunfire2021

    Um.......he had surgery, hello!!!!

  • Nice. The voice is good, but there are still troubles getting the intonation right. But a great thing, and courageous on his part.

  • This guy has been for favorite critic for years and always read his reviews for every movie i wanna see. Shame this happened to a good guy like him. Does sound like him though.

  • touching...
