Bronchiolitis = inflammation of the bronchioles, which are the small airways that bridge the alveoli and the bronchi. Chronic bronchitis does exist, it's part of a spectrum of disorders known as collectively chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). COPD is usually caused by smoking, but may be caused by occupational or genetic factors (ex. asbestos work and alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency).
