@Ark4evah :/ do you have like a good link or a good book that you recommend, that is an easy step-by-step tutorial for people that knows less than 0 about coding, making programs etc. It doesnt have to be a super advanced one (by advanced i dont mean like a 'hard' tut. more like this: "advanced book tutorial for people that dont know a thing about coding and programs etc" advanced like it has a lot of content, i just want some easy getting started guide) all i can find is hard stuff :**(
@TheJakeSweede If you take your time to read from the first page of a learning-book to the end, it should go fine. Dont think those " Learn c#(or any other programming language) in 24 hours" actually would make you expert in 24 hours, because their not! Start reading a beginners book, be finished, read more advanced books later on.
Then you are starting to be decent, start trying to make a program with most of your " now-granted-knowlege". Take one variable at a time.
Lots of information packed into this video and it's stuff I wouldn't have bothered to learn on my own, so that makes it a lot more valuable. Oh and, killer amulet Kendall.
Thank you for doing these videos. Its cool of you to take some of your extra time and teach some of us newbies. heh. Will you be going over any of the basics of c++ code or SDL in any future tutorials? I'll keep an eye out, I enjoy learning.
What is the best Starter Book for beginners and best language for starting out...even if not game dev one must tart somewhere... a cheers for future answer
Is it true that students get Visual studio for free or little or no cost for the pro edition? what version are you guys using? the average version costs at least 5k and is too heavy on a students wallet... i gather you guys do not recommend c++ for noobs?
Best book authors are? enjoying the series and following the progression of your project keep up the good work cheers :)
@krizem "Is it true that students get Visual studio for free or little or no cost for the pro edition?" - Yep, through dreamspark [dot] com - Lots of other software too.
I've read through the process of compilation a few times, but it was actually nice to hear someone explaining the terms 'parsing' and 'lexers' and how to see what the end product is, very helpful indeed.
In your next tutorial, could you go a bit in depth on scripting languages such as LUA and PERL and talk about their various applications within game design? Not the syntax or anything, just what they are best suited for, etc.
Hey, I like Microsoft and the . Net framework they've come up with, but you've got to remember that what Microsoft seems to do really well is to make real the ideas that are already floating around from other sources. Then they innovate on those implementations (arguably that's how a lot of innovation occurs). Windows was inspired from Mac's GUI, as the . Net framework has major elements of Java's JIT interpreted framework.
I was actually expecting the whole "JIT COMPILING IS FASTER THAN TRADITIONAL COMPILING!!!!111" argument to take hold. Then we would be in a huge battle between the speed of C/++ vs C#/Java.
lol just to say sumthing on that, C/++ would win :) people, the speed and skill level that you write code at, doesn't determine the compile speed.... unless you write crappy code...
@GyroVorbis can you see how the theoretical peak runtime speed for runtime compilation and optimization is higher than for static optimization?
You know EVERYONE used to say that asm was faster than C. THEN they said C++ was too slow compared to C.
There are two arguments. One is about the current speed of different specific languages. The other is about optimised compilation based on stuff like execution path and the actual performance of the architecture.
I have learnt more from this than any other source on the internet.

You cannot forget that the machine code is in assembly instructions. A C function call would become multiple assembly instructions.
e.g
C: puts(s)
GAS: movl $s, (%esp) call _puts

@macheads101 ...seriously?
GyroVorbis 1 year ago 2
@GyroVorbis I mean it doesn't really make a difference, but its a good thing to note that the code you enter in becomes much more machine code.

And who is guilty for all the problems with platforms ? Of course Mac, UNIX and stuff. Because the are fighting Windows ...
