Jasn is actualy 60-(look it all up in wikipedia ! )-and a true fan would know their first big hit was ,"hokus pokus -and the groups name at the time was FOCUS !-that they made the big time -jan was one of the driving forces in the band with thijs van lear -but look it up _Do I have to write a book for all of you ?-do some reserch !-only one of you actualy got it partialy correct -and is now a friend -the rest did not pass thet test as so to speak !-truly a dissapointment !-but ok !-
I challenge any artist to make a worthy cover of this song !(including malmstine, satriana ,bosama -etc.!)-never mind us mortal would be guitarists !Jan has always been a bit of an exentric -in brainbox-hokuspokus and other groups -he developed his own style -not even hendrix was an influence !-so I place the challenge to you all out there !-surprise me !-and remember jan is about 70 years old !-hey -try and beat that !
love and peace -no abuse inteanded here at all !-just a challenge ! x gus
@gusthebroken2 I agree with you. I've been an Akkerman fan since his LP "Guitar For Sale" in 1968. Even back then nobody played like him- nobody was as well educated/versatile enough to sight read Medieval lute music. Everyone rates either USA or Brit guitar players but Jan & Germany's Volker Kriegel are KILLERS. (both Django Reinhardt influenced) To me, Jan's worth a million Malmsteens & Sats.
Thanks Hulldan! The stock 70's Customs are "fretless wonders" ---- I have one. Akkerman has probably had this three humbucker version refretted (at least once). Hocus pocus!
Anybody know what year Jan's black LP Custom was made?---he has had it for years---at least since GUITAR FOR SALE in the early 70's. Kind of looks like a '73.
De uitzonderlijke, eigengereide klasse van Akkerman staat natuurlijk buiten kijf, maar ook fantastisch wat zijn band neerzet. Coen Molenaar is een geweldenaar op de Hammond! 7:30
@g4pei -well it is back to day zero when you see this -I feel the same !-god this is too much for the brain !-so we just have to practice more i guess -but nevere ever be as good as jan-I know him -lives close by -a great person !-don't let it discorouge you !-everyone has their own style and tallents -and am sure you have yours too !-chin up mate !-just go on !x best wishes -gus
@g4pei Me too, just thrown my guitar in the river (de Maas in Holland)! Maybe some of you guys can find a purpose for it, after seeing this, I quit, lol!!
I'm a new fan of Jan's, but he now has his own playlist among mine, just after Guns N Roses, and before Janice Joplin and Jimi Hendrix . . . . pretty honored place
Ze moeten Jan gewoon postuum een hoogleraarschap geven.
Professor op de 6 snaren. Kunnen heel wat Conservatorium leraren een puntje aan zuigen!

LOL - Not sure that Jan would be happy at being called 70 or even being in a mythical band called hokuspokus
You may be interested to know that Jan has a NEW CD called 'Minor details' to come out soon
