@ClaudinesWorld That's what the cmommentator says in this video. She's got angry at Alina's performance. Maybe at its choreography, too. I can't get all of their words, because these are cut.
Utterly flamboyant, coquettish, playful, coy, flirtatious. She dances this piece with an extraordinary maturity. At 15, her dancing here, is almost perfect, danced by a true genius. It is only possible for a dancer born with exceptional talent. The dance is almost contemporary, humorous and funny with total abandonment. One sees Rumanian girls' gymnastic heritage. She tumbles backwards effortlessly, Jumps high with two legs totally split airborne. Footwork is swift, nimble, feather-light.
Who would imagine that the girl living upstairs will become first balerina. Thas is a romanian dream (one of few): the girl from a simple family and a harsh neigbourhood becomes a star!!! And what a star!
I'm a huge Cojocaru fan! But this isn't my favorite routine, it's the choreography. I understand it's supposed to be free/loose, but I just wish it was less acrobatic and alternated the "crazy" movements with steps that had sharp precision. I feel like the end result would have been more impressive if they'd done that. I feel like this routine is all over the place (I guess that's the point.) Anyway, the judges liked it and she's one of the world's top dancers, so I guess I can't complain!
AMAZING! I am also fifteen and in comparison I feel like an amature trying to dance. She is beautiful. Not only at ballet she is able to tumble in point shoes. That is extremely hard to do!
Watching this, I'm thinking that I've been doing nothing comparing to her and I'm 15 myself. Bravo, Alina, thank you for all you've done! And making not only me, but so many people, proud to be Romanian!
I love the commentators at the end, not being able to hide their surprise: oh la la la laa!!!! xD I don't understand the language but I understand they are surprised by this young talent.
It's so amazing that even then, at 15, she had amazing stage presense and acting skills. Not many teenagers do. Does anybody know what she did for her classical piece?
Ummm, I'm not sure if I like Alina in this, obviously it's very good, but it just doesn't seem to suit her style. I would never have thought that this was her if it hadn't been written!
But perhaps it is just because I am used to her 'style' now, her sensitivity in roles like Giselle or Aurora...
who would have believe this charismatic and amazing girl would become one of the best dancers? I think not even Alina had ever imagine it, but it's true, it's amazing how she improve, she's a dancer you really HAVE to admire and love, she's totally beautiful, her career at the Royal is amazing, she has done a lot, and her dancing is alive and smooth and amazing. BRAVO alina, she has give SO MUCH to the dance world only with her charismatic prescense.
it's stunning that a girl my age could be so incredible!
it takes so much talent to pull of something "clumsy" and have it be so graceful! if someone less gifted tried it would end up looking messy, but not her!
She was exceptional, even then. You don't find kids with her kind of stage presence now, not to mention that gift for making you keep your eyes superglued to her till she's done the very last bow.
Doesn't this give hope to anyone else? In this, she has such stage presence (lots and lots and lots, she's adorable,) and jumps and flexibility, but she doesn't have the best turn-out (I know certain things are supposed to be turned-in but I mean transitions and things,) and have nearly as gorgeous feet as she does now.
This isn't a negative comment! This is a positive one! I am happy!
this dance is so cute!!! it reminds me of a three musketeer sort of thing, it would be really cool if someone made a three musketeer ballet ( if they haven't already )

Yeah I agree. I thought it was eh, but the girl is really good still. It just doesn't look that graceful. and I know it's not really supposed to be, because it seems they're trying to make it look like shes fighting with a sword, but they could still throw in a little something. Oh I don't know, but it was entertaining.

yeah i'm so glad free variations don't exist anymore in the Prix de Lausanne... Strange thing is: why didn't they choose variations from real choreographers and made a choreography by themselves, or ask to their teachers? It looked like a contest fore 9 years old...
she won the prix, so obviously the judges like it! It shows off Alina's dancing technique, ability to play with the music, to act, to let go of herself, to be an entertainer, and a dancer who is open to different styles and dance types.
Such an excellent performer as well as dancer, even then! I'm so disappointed, I bought tickets to see her in Swan Lake tomorrow with Johan Kobborg, but she's pulled out! I hope her injury (I think it's because of her neck injury) gets better.
I think maybe having done gymnastics when she was a little kid helped some with the more gymnastics moves. When she was a gymnast she was taught by Bela Karoly. She was also in the same kindergarden class as Nadia Comanec. Really cool.
I read it in one of the gymnastics autobiography books. I think it was the one that doubled with Mary Lou Retton. You would have to read Bela's side of the book. My copy is in storage on the other side of the country so I can't just pull out to double check the names.
I love Alina. Its amazing to think how successful she already is and how many leads she has had and she is only 26 today. But looking at her at 15, I guess its not that surprising.
I wish somebody knew what this music is! Nobody seems to be sure. perhaps it is a medley or something, but the same theme is throughout the whole piece so I don't know. Anyhow... Alina is amazing! She is so adorable! And only 15 too! Wow!
This piece is so cool and she performed it with so much character!! But I don't like it as a competition piece because it showcases more of her acting and flexibility than her technique. She is adorable though!
