We make it a practice to hove-to with the main on the port side...that way, when we start underway again, we're already on a starboard tack. Minor editing glitch aside, learning to hove-to should be taught early in the sailing program. it can be a life / boat saver.
This would be a good video except that the editors who created the final version from several takes mixed together examples of heaving-to from the starboard tack and from the port tack. Initially the vessel is shown heaving-to from a starboard tack but at 48 seconds it is suddenly completing the maneuver from a port tack. At 1:10 the vessel it is suddenly back on a starboard tack. Not good for a student trying to learn the process.
