  • @manwithouthat44 why do you ask?

  • @manwithouthat44 naw shut yer hole bawbag

  • por lo poco q entiendo de ingles puedo decir q esta cancion tiene un alto sentido social y politico. como casi todas las canciones de dylan

  • What made this a great album is Sly And Robbies input.

  • As great as the lyrics are (whatever they may mean), and as good as Bob's voice is, this song would be nothing without the awesome guitar playing of Mark Knopfler.

  • We all gotta' serve somebody - and still glad bobby is serving us tunes!

  • claudele colvnn.. she knows thiis song .and richard mango boy ... but i say i love it like i wrote it when ppeople hide behide false shadez .. the joker man was always laughing when the fun was made .. foe sum goeson

  • Good song, horrible production

  • --tried searchn 4 full version of this video version;bit of a tease but guess this will have to do;thanx!!!!

  • these lyrics fucking blow me away.... i heard this at a fairly young age-about 14-and it turned me into a Dylan fan for life.

  • @KOSMICKEN09 same with me when i heard chimes of freedom

  • I can't stand Dylan, and I can't abide Knopfler's guitar. Yet this song is just brilliant. ??

  • Love Mark Knopfler's slithering guitar work on this track.

  • whoahhhh

    whoaoaoaoaoaoaaaa

    jokerman.

  • wow this version is long

  • No one could duplicate the emotion here if they lived forever.

  • The master poet/song writer. So many interesting pieces of work. Thank you Bob .

  • The Messiah!

  • Good insight jokerman

  • infidels great album, but where is the studio cut of 'union sundown' ?

  • Bob could stay at my place any-time

  • My whole life i've sang "Small dark look in your face" not "small dog licking your face" lol

  • @WeezerColdplay "small dark look" makes sense. I used to think that too :P

  • I think if you check our Revelation Chapter 11 Verse 3-12 you might have some insights as to who Dylan is. Definitely not a false prophet! He's just waiting for the right time.

  • Great song! Great video! Thanks.

  • Who is the dick who decided that adding commercials to youtube was a good idea? Does anyone have his address?

  • Hope you are not struck with deafness. This cat is....music.

  • HELP i need somebody, I wanna hold your hand, baby you can drive my car, Cant buy me love, we all live in a yellow submarine, I am the walrus (shove the eggman up your ass), back in the USSR, say you want a revolution? say you want a song writer say you want Bob Dylan!

  • Its O.K. but lets face it Dylan is DEAD! SONY killed him! If you're not featuring on YouTube you're simply NOT HERE.Corporate greed killed Dylan....what an epitaph!

  • And lol at the idol with the iron head!

  • Second best eighties Dylan song after Blind Willie!

  • I do not know why they did not value the work of Bob in the mid-eighties. I feel that was very underrated and devalued. One of his best work Infidels, inthe eighties and Dylan make this song one of my favorites.

  • @MarianoGabriel25

Jokerman was written in the 60's

  • @Masterevileros no it wasnt

  • @davebuchan81 Satan

  • @23jokerman23 Satan

  • Does anybody know who the artist is that paints the picture at 2:07 ?

  • fuck the youtube adverts

  • @viciazzo With a capital "F" . . . Britney Spears advertised on any Bob Dylan tune is sacrilege!!!

  • @viciazzo Without them, you will have to pay

  • Great song....I saw Dylan for the first time during the Infidels tour. Saw him again a couple of years ago and couldn't get over the deterioration in his performance. Superb lyricist though..

  • I bet 99% of you people dont even know who Bobs refering to in this song ....

  • @Alphamael82 I thought it was me............:D Who is it really?

  • @Alphamael82 Well how about you stop being arrogant with your "knowledge"of music and share your wisdom with us? Who is it referring to, I would love to know?

  • @23jokerman23 This song refers to the 'Beast' not so much a person but the system that represents/ reflects a certain position on Global affairs, we see this at this present time in the likes of the globalist agenda on economic/ political stability (the new moralists) , it is a system that ultimatly will be an afront to God (Jehovah) , indeed que Bob Dylans 'man of peace' ( some times Satan comes as a man of peace)

  • @idenhlm A born again? Are you implying that Dylan is satan? Thats a bit shallow.

  • @Syrhani The comments I make here in no way refer to Bob Dylan the person, the comments I make refer to the political 'system' we see transpiring today, a system that Dylan foresaw.

  • THE GREATEST MUSICIAN WHO EVER DID LIVE

  • must be one of the best lyrics, if not the best lyrics in a song.

  • sync sync sync sync sync sync sync sync sync sync sync video video

  • One of my favourites and I love these bits: "freedom just around the corner for you" and "shedding off one more layer of skin".

  • such a underated song one ov his best rock on bob we love you

  • Thanks! Have been looking for this movie a long time now, but that is now end of story! I've finally find it!! :))

  • This is Chris Martin, frontman of Coldplay, favourite Bob Dylan song.

  • had sum good dayz wen this this song was here...hazy dayz...say no more!!

  • ahhhh

  • This dude is a genius...

  • BOB DYLAN is the man.

  • I like the rhytm of the drums every eight steps.

  • Definitely one of my favourite Dylan songs

  • You all talking like Dylan is dead.

  • Absolutely timeless. This will endure the test of time.

  • i love the "oh jokerman" parts (the chorus) it shows how well he could sing if he cares

  • "rifleman stalking the sick and the lame, preacher man seeks the same. Who gets there first is uncertian." Mr. Dylan sums up the entire history of human civilization in one line, who esle could ever do that?

  • "rifleman stalking the sick and the lame. Who get's there first is uncertian"

Mr. Dylan sums up the entire history of human civilization in one line, who else could ever do that?

  • @weirdplaylists

1980, Dylan played a concert at ASU. His band included a small Gospel Choir. The music didn't change overnight, it was carefully and distinctively different. Dylan, didn't leave open ended questions or speculation to fill in a blank. "Lord, take this badge away from me, I can't use it any more" What is the cost of the truth, if liars aren't going to buy it at any price? Classical Economics, Truth is Inelastic, Free, only the demand curve is elastic.

  • @weirdplaylists

What are your thoughts regarding someone who has suffered the pain, agony & despair of a lost or imprisoned soul, then they receive the gift of the Holy Spirit? The weight of the world is off their shoulders and they are filled in abundance with His Holy Spirit. In Biblical terms, they are re-born washed in the blood of Jesus Christ and that presence is unmistakeable. Dylan had found true shelter and those Christian tunes (Serve Somebody, ect) don't pacify ignorance is bliss?

  • @weirdplaylists

Recognize Dylan was striving to "do the right thing". He expressed himself honestly and his efforts were directed towards exposing the corruption of the establishment. Those efforts equate to Socrates getting accused of being wisest in the land. When you start gaining the title of Arch Angel of Anarchy, it is reason for concern. Dylan's "Apology" was Shelter from the Storm, followed by gaining Divine Wisom (absolute confirmation of God) by receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit

  • @weirdplaylists

Anthony Scudato, wrote an unauthorized biography on Bob Dylan that was so incredibly insightful that Dylan approved it as an authorized biography. As brilliant as Dylan was as singer, songwriter, poet, muscian, father ect. Scudato was incredible at writing and research. Read a lot of biographies written by many many authors, Scudato was the best of the best.

  • @weirdplaylists

At the time Dylan wrote Shelter from the Storm, he hadn't converted Christian to receive the gift of His Holy Spirit. Divine Wisdom, (absolute confirmation of God's existence) as Plato defined, is "a condition of the soul". The metaphor assigned the Devil was "her" and the entire song is about being deceived. Dylan's noble attempt to create peace on Earth. Eventually, comes to the stark realization "for the prince of the world is coming and he has nothing in me"- Jesus _

  • I know people like to compare Dylan and The Beatles but let's be honest Dylan is in his own stratosphere lyrics wise from anybody esle in the history of music.

The Beatles can' touch Dylan, and I like The Beatles but let's be honest, Bob Dylan = The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be.

  • An awesome VIDEO! The epic poem of Dylan's post-Christian era from "Infidels". My wife's favorite song: she thought I was the "jokerman", and she was probably right.

  • Perhaps he who is so good at metaphor and being vague is commenting on all of us... our whims, our self-righteousness, our passions, our delusions, our cruelties and perhaps, even our absurdities???? To me, "Jokerman" feels like a historical journey that leads us right back to where we are now.

  • I truly love this song. thanks.

  • how can i download this video?

  • mesmerized the beatles couldnt even touch this tune

  • @shangdangshugga

even the beatles were trivial when compared to the prophetic version of Dylan, that was his prime. nobody could even follow him

  • I am in a trance listening and watching and listening to this. Trying to make sense of what he is singing. I just am loving it. This is coming from an old disco girl. Wow, cheers to Dylan.............

  • this is the best.

  • Any ideas what/who he's singing about?

  • @Ozzfan129 I really think he is the jokerman.

  • @Ozzfan129 Yes...Corruption within the walls of false leaders.

  • Anyone notice the diplomat with the siamese cat on his shoulder?

  • This came out in '83....20+ years of great music at that point.... now it has been nearly 50 of Dylan...hard to imagine that one day he will be resting in the fields far from the turbulent space....thank you Bob for everthing

  • ...best...lyrics...ever.....

  • I watched this video on TV when I was little & my family having nasty issues all over us, & I remember the fear I felt back then - if I remember correctly, this was broadcast in Tokio, Japan, in the summer of 1984.

Years ago I bought the CD "Infidels" and since then I love it. Thank you so much for posting this video, today I do enjoy watching this.

  • this is a lyrical masterpiece.... Dylan outdoes his own profound abilities on this one.

    Leonard Cohen smiles.

  • And that is why I'm writing in Ron Paul for president in November 2012

  • Seeing him live on 16th July 2011 Yeah!!!!! Jokerman a masterpiece among top ten of his over 600 masterpieces.

  • love this

  • The most haunting Dylan lyric, " I wish I could turn back the clock to when God and her were born, Come in She said, I'll give ya, Shelter from the Storm". With so many references to Dylan as the false prophet (jester stole his thorny crown) it had to wear on him. He had eyes wide open to deception, yet still was a victim. Dylan, like Socrates, was brilliant at asking the question; never claiming to have the answer, but always emerging as the wiser for at least admitting he did not know.

  • @waketheoblivious I dont know about all that... but he sure is one hell of a song and dance man.

  • @wistoncap

The best of the best. He is as complex as anyone who ever put pen to paper or blended words & music into a poets song. Bob is back on stage, but to the wise he's not there by choice. The business of saving souls....... he had handed that crown back to it's rightful owner. Loving parents do most anything, to save their children..........

  • "You're a dream twister." - How better to describe Hitler and others like him?

  • "You're a dream twister." - love that line.

  • @tjrtherocksponge well that's all subjective. for me, any band that contains 2 members of dire straits is not gonna be good. i'm not a fan. this production reminds me of all those other 60's survivors in the 80s like mccartney and the stones, in that they so desperately wanted a modern sounding record that they drenched their records in synths and horrible cheesy electronic drum sounds that just left us with very dated music. But as I said before even that can't hold back this brilliant song

  • Wtf? For once, I didn't find a bunch of shitty covers when trying to find a Bob Dylan song?

Sweet. And it's in good quality! :D

  • Everytime I am playing solitaire lately this song is going through my head...however, I never listened closely enough to hear the words. I am amazed. Bob Dylan truly makes me feel inspired.

  • Happy 70th! This is by far one of my favorite all-time songs not just by Dylan but anybody. It just moves me in ways most songs can't.

  • Dylan, you're the one that really makes me feel music...no fake like music today..you are mysterious and you're music is soul, heart and truth thank you Mr. Dylan

  • Bob Dylan you're the one that really makes me feel music....

  • @JFguitar22

    i can suggest some more

  • @4l4ddin77 i know but Bob is the man

  • Though maybe not as lyrically impressive as Sir Mixalot's "Baby Got Back" or as deep as "My Dog Likes Oranges (but he'll eat apples too)", this song is still very meaningful.

P.S. -- just joshin' ya (about comparing it to Sir Mixalot's hillarious tune). This song rocks!

  • OHH BOBY D!!!

  • You fucking pigs, spoiling this video with your advertisements.

  • got to be one of the best all but Damn i love and everytime in aha

    Happy Birthday

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE GREATEST LYRICIST AND ARTIST BOB DYLAN! HAPPY 70TH BOB!!!!!!

  • one of his best.

  • Happy 70th Bob! Thank you for all the GREAT music and the memories that have traveled with them oover the years!! This is a Fab song and video!!

  • timeless

  • Happy Birthday Bob

  • Jawbella this was the offical released video from Bob Dylan

  • why the hell do i have to listen to flo before bob dylan!?

  • How does one begin. Genius on a sheer level would be a good start. There is no finer song when you have a moderate buzz on. Christ he transcribes all of human history, at least all the important bits into some six minutes. That is noteworthy but let us not forget how it all shows his lyrical superiority over most other song writers. This song is the LYRICS - listen and he/she will be set free!!!

  • Top 10 of greatest songs of all time !

  • where r all the other Real Dylan videos? this really sucks. omg. too bad. He was so grt.

  • The awful 80's production can't hold back the truly great song underneath

  • Infidels is tremendously underrated.

  • Dylan really is just the greatest of all time. He's the GOAT, like they say about rappers and ball players. His lyrics ....so many people have been labeled "rock poets", but he really is one. They're poetry. "Half asleep beneath the stars w/ a small dog licking your face." haha. Who else comes up w/ imagery like that? He's so g.d good.

  • Bob Dylan rocks.

  • first video I've seen on VH1 classic

  • skys are slippery grey

  • love this video!!!!

  • He is talking about the hypocrisy of life.....

  • "Poetry is what gets lost in translation." -Robert Frost

  • Mr. Dylan Jokerman.

  • what does it mean!

  • fu jew

  • I thought it was about Nixon.

  • ANYTHING "VEVO" TOUCHES - IT DESTROYS

YOUR COMMERCIALISM AND STREAMING SUCKS ON EVERYTHING YOU OWN

  • Joker Man lives by the Nightingale Tune...Birds fly high by the light of the moon...oh Joker Man!

  • this just became my favorite dylan song

  • an insight after re reading his bio, that the man considered himself a high comedian in youth

  • THis was always one of my favs, I don't know how popular of a dylan song it is but the music and lyrics are amazing.

  • dylan's genius never ceises to amaze me

  • a song about Jesus, it took years to figure it out. I could be wrong, it might be about a homeless child.

  • a song about Jesus, it took years to figure it out.

  • Thanks again Bob

  • HUGE

  • Great imagery. The best songwriter to have lived.

  • @OldManBieberFan...................No question about it. It's not even up for debate.

  • This song is basically a stream of consciousness explosion of words and images by Dylan. Who is he singing about? Jesus? Hitler? Someone else along the continuum of good and evil? Any one of us? The interpretation is entirely up to the listener, I'd say.

  • @squamish4244 He's singing about the deception of democracy , war, greed, lies, fatcats, motherless children and the Jokerman, in this case , Ronald Reagan.."you know what he wants", oh Jokerman, you don't show any response"

hahahahahah.. Right -on Bob.Tell it like it really is.

  • @squamish4244 I believe the song is about Dylan understood himself 30 years ago. I believe this song is his Self Portrait.

  • Dylayn must be joking. Bieber is better any time of the day!

  • @OldManBieberFan fuck off

  • Bob's the man!!

  • hey loved the video. put up a new oneof my own. let me know what you think. any sugjestion wouldhelp i have no idea what i am doing

  • A great song with a fantastic video. Some of the greatest works of western art combined with the music of Bob Dylan......WOW!

  • @sssssiiii I feel sorry for you...for you know nothing about Bob the man...

  • Comment removed

  • The bible is a book written by men, men have agendazzzzzz! Wake up. Bob is hardly a man of god. Look up Bob Dylan sold his soul. Just do it and see the godly one. hahahhaa.

  • Inspiration does not come from perspiration.........God is diffinitely in Bob.......Listen to Watered Down Love..........and you will not judge others but love them as God intends everyone to do........

  • @kezo2 really? what about when you are attacked or mistreated. self defense?

  • This isn't about jews or christianity.......or who is your mother.........God is Love......whoever abides in Love abides in God and God in him.....1John 4:16

  • I'm the jokerman

  • For those who think this about Revelations, or that Jesus was anything but Jewish.... Dylan says "The Book of Leviticus and Deuteronomy are your only teachers." Go read 'em. They tell the Israelites and their priests how to arrange the temple, its prayers, its animal sacrifices, and, detailing the 614 "Mitzvot" (Good deeds) Jews are supposed to follow (besides the Ten Commandments.) With the destruction of the Temple, that changed .. this is about the Jesus of Matthew, Mark and Luke, not John

  • Happy Birthday Ronnie Reagan...

  • This could possible be the best song written and delivered by,Dylan. And will be listened to for generations.

  • Love this song even though the video is filled with masonic occult themes
