the real problem with metallica is not that they changed the style, is that he sounds horrible live.. Classic TAllica can kick the ass of any band... We all love Metallica for the things that they made.

Load is absolutely incredible... ReLoad is questionable besides a few tracks. But it's a matter of personal taste. Yes they did totally change their style for those records and we'll always praise the older material over the newer... but man for me Load is like my second favorite behind Puppets. Those songs go hard. I also live in the south though and can really relate to the country-esque vibe it has =P

all metallica albums are great, and wouldnt it be boring if they just kept doing the same stuff on each ablum, they had the guts to do something risky and different and not many other bands can do that

I think Lars and James should have kept telling Kirk and Jason what to do, then Load, ReLoad, or St. Anger might not have happened (But who would want that!? :o)

maybe they could have put out at least one more good thrash album before they turned to hard rock.

@ridethelightning64 The majority of the Load demos were still done with just James and Lars working together. They weren't any heavier, faster, or anything like that. Jason only helped write one of the songs from the two Loads. Kirk had always had a lot of writing credit since RTL anyway - the only thing that they eased up on with him during Load was letting him track rhythms as well as James. The way the albums sound is still just as much based on James and Lars' input as any of them.
