Thank you SO MUCH for posting this video! I've spent hours and hours on the internet trying to figure out how to convert videos for my PSP (creating MP4s that didn't work, trying to use HandBrake, etc.) and now you've presented this amazingly simple way to do it! I just tried it out, and it works. Thanks a million! :D
By the way, what exactly would the difference be if you used MPEG-4 (Improved) instead of MPEG-4 (Basic)? Like, why not use Improved?
hey... i made an imovie project and i want to put it on my psp... how do i do that... without starting all over again , and its to big to post on youtube so i cant import it
I had a PC and PSP Media Manager and it was great, but I just got a MAC and i've been trying to find (good) conversion software. This tutorial was GREAT and I plan to use it for the time being but it's too complicated have any suggestions for good software? If not I understand . . . . . . . I don't want to insult the great work you did on this vid.
@hornets06 You can use iTunes. Import the files into iTunes, select the file and then click Advanced and select Create iPod or iPhone Version. The iPod/iPhone video format now works on the PSP with the latest firmware installed.
Ha! Don't take it as a death sentence. The Sony cards should work fine, after all flash memory is flash memory no matter who makes it. I've just had no luck with the Sony cards for some reason but for other people they work perfectly fine.
I was wondering 1) I have the regular iMovie and how do you get HD. 2) Also all of my movies are ripped so they are mp4 files not quicktime but my iMovie is different so I can't follow. When I try to put the videos on my memory card, it says corrupted or unsupported. plz help!
1) You will need to purchase iLife from the Apple Store, install it and then go to Apple's web site and download iMovie HD 6.
2) .mp4 files are Quicktime files and can be understood by iMovie. You should be able to easily import them if they are not copy protected files.
You can also use QuickTime Pro to convert the movies which is also available from Apple for $29.99. Also give the standard iPod encoding a try, that works with the latest PSP Firmware.
OH my gosh thank you soooo much for showing me this... i bought the psp for my husband who is in afghanistan right now and i was so excited when i saw we could up load pictures! but when i saw we could also do movies i almost died! but then i didnt work and i was so crushed because i wanted to send him a video that he could watch of me when he misses me and much better then pictures! so thank you so much you have done something that has really helped me out and we are both so greatful!
Like I said to other people, you can always give it a try. I don't see any reason why it should not work. Also, remember that the standard iPod encoding now works too so you don't have to use this weird proprietary format if you don't want to.
Perhaps. It never worked on my Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo but I got it to work on my SanDisk. Some people have been sucessful with the Sony cards and some haven't. Best way to find out is to try. Also remember that standard iPod encoding works too, the crazy conversion shown here is no longer necessary.
I done everything you said but i keep getting Corrupted data and unsupported data. what do i do. PS: Im using PSP 3000 with Official Firmware Version 5.02
Try using a standard iPod Video encoding. Since this video went up, Sony has added support for the iPod format, it should work and you won't have to use this obscure, random encoding.
yeh!! bout the card er if you want to save your saved data on your un formatted card (yess i didnt format mine and got in a small stress when i couldent work out why some files were not there) just open the card take all the data you want to keep and put it on to your desktop then put it back once your done
Yes they have changed something. If you now export the movie to iPod format the PSP can read it. There is no need for the crazy conversion procedure anymore.
Make sure your PSP is set into USB mode after connecting it. It should appear or you have a broken USB port on the PSP or computer or the cord is broken.
Very true, Compressor works much better but it is only in Final Cut Studio and few people have that much cash to fork over for a professional editing suite. Good idea if you already have FCS.
No idea. Any memory stick will do. I only recommended SanDisk because it has a decent warranty and is a well known brand. Any brand memory stick that is compatible will do, the Sony ones seem picky for some reason and I've never been able to get a video on them but others have. *shrugs*
It probably didn't copy correctly or you placed it in the wrong folder, make sure it is in a folder called "VIDEO" and yes, it is case sensitive. Check for the file via your computer because if something went wrong the PSP won't give you any information.
This should work with the new version of iMovie in iLife '08. The process might be slightly different but essentially the same. Use the same conversion settings.
Your vids are the most promising, clearest and beautiful ending at the end... wow. Now, i'm going to do the same for my psp from the mac. Thanks a lot!!! :)
Make sure Quicktime is updated as well as iMovie. AVI is one of the worst formats ever created and it is very difficult to convert and even play. Other than that the only other tip I have is to use Quicktime Pro if you have it and convert it using my old PSP conversion video. Try to avoid AVI at all times, it only leads to irritation.
oh yeah.. avi is a pain. well I'm using a leopard. so I guess everything is updated. I found a way though using xilisoft I convert to mp4. but that doesnt read on psp. so again using this method convert through imovie.. kinda long process.. but works..
yo bro, im just getting the corrupt file eh. not getting anything else. Know what Im doing wrong, will try with a few other files. I did manage to get videos onto my psp when i first got it converting the another way then putting them in the MP_ROOT file then the 101ANV01, but tried it that recently and it didn't work
They have to go in a file called "VIDEO" on your memory stick or it won't work. The easiest way is to format your memory stick and it will be set up properly with all the necessary folders in the correct places. However you will lose all data on it.
Theoretically yes. The problem is finding the correct settings. I don't know about a 360 but the PS3 is considerably less picky (than a PSP) about formats. I haven't tried yet but I believe standard H.264 encoding works for the PS3, I have no idea about a 360.
You could but Sony does not make it for Mac. Besides, even if they did you'd be wasting money when you could just do it yourself with already existing software. This gives higher quality and smaller files than Media Manager and is full proof for any format you can throw at it.
Any brand memory card should work, even the Sony ones. I've found the Sony ones don't work but others have been successful with them. The type of card really and truly doesn't matter.
how put the clip into the imovie and put it into the project. after that i tried to export but mine didn't have export. what version do i need to do this?
More modern versions use "Export," older versions use "Share." Look for either one of those. They both do the same thing and bring you to the same window.
You can make it full screen by pressing the Triangle button and selecting the Screen Mode button, see the PSP User's Manual or use Sony's Support Site. Yes, you need to have a memory stick inserted, the PSP has no accessible internal storage.
Your source file could me messed up. AVI is (in my opinion) a terrible format and causes lots of problems when converting/transferring. If you can, try exporting to full quality DV or to QuickTime Movie with Default presets. Then go back and do the PSP conversion. Check the audio at every conversion also. It could also just not work, this happens sometimes in rare occurrences. Try and ditch AVI if you can.
so i followed your instructions but my video which was orignally a 230 mb avi file somehow turned into 1.16 gb after converting to mp4. any clue what happened?? thanks
very well done -- almost idiot proof. You couldn't have made it much clearer, but I made the mistake of buying an SD card instead of a memory stick. doh.
Sadly no. PCs are incapable of using iMovie and other required software necessary for this conversion. You can however use my old video that Uses QuickTime, although you will have to purchase QuickTime Pro from Apple. I currently do not support Windows based PC conversions and do not intend to in the future.
sweet man this helped me heaps:D, in the future press "apple"+"option"+"=" keys to zoom when your going through the lil menus to make it easier for us to follow, "apple"+"option"+"-" will put it back to normal, if it doesn't work right you can change its settings in universal settings in system prefs. thx again I cant wait to try it!
Due to misuse and piracy it is not possible to convert movies from a DVD and put onto a PSP or any other portable device. There are no legal means of putting a DVD onto a PSP.
I'm trying to put divex movies i've downloaded onto my psp. However, they come with no picture only sound when i put it on my imovie. Any help with that??
Make sure the iMovie audio is turned up (all the way). iMovie has a completely independent overall volume adjustment from the computer's. It is just below the viewer towards the right side. If all else fails contact AppleCare by phone or call an Apple Store.
Make sure all your software is up to date. iMovie, QuickTime, OS X and the PSP. You can use the Software Update option on the Apple menu to check for iMovie, QuickTime and OS X updates. You can use the PlayStation web site or the Network Update option in the Settings menu of the PSP. It sounds like you have a software problem. Most likely either iMovie or QuickTime needs to be updated.
I tried it with a music video but the videdo showed up on my psp as corrupt data and unplayable data and when i tried playing it off the desktop it had no sound
great video, I was always using a freeware program running under bootcamp to convert videos for my psp and it took ages and kept crashing. Now I won't need it, thanks..
Not that I am aware of. If you are using iMovie to convert you DO NOT need to buy QuickTime Pro. In a sence iMovie already has QuickTime Pro. Give it a try and if it does not work please let me know.
