  • @hmoobkazz bite wings don't show abscesses. Would need a peri apical for that.

  • I experienced a dentist that used a different type of x-ray to see my teeth. I don't remember what it was called, but I didn't have to bite on the bitewing papers (great for me 'cause I have a really sensitive gag reflex).

I need to know what that x-ray is called now so I can find a new dentist where I live now. Any help?

  • @LivelyLou maybe it was a periapical !!

  • and its also done to see the bone level

  • Are Panaramic exrays just as good as bitewings because i hate having them done and i hope all offices get the panaromic machines. Thanks

  • Bitewings are to diagnose to see if you have any cavities, decays, absesses, missing tooths, etcs. For the Pano(ramic), it is often used for Ortho purposes. Bitewings are usually cover once every 6mo's, but for the Pano it can be covered once every 2/3yrs. If the DDS is doing a FULL SET OF X-RAYS (FMX) its usually covered once every 2yrs.... Do keep in mind that if it doesn't cover and you are still within that time frame, you will be responsible for that procedure.

  • @romoinsunphx

No, panoramic x-rays do not show decay as clearly as bitewing x-rays.

  • those bitewings actually aren't very good....you can see the premolars!

  • God I hate bitewing x-rays. I always gag.

  • you aint lieing. It took me 10 to get both xrays on both sides

  • @TheAmazingBojack I am going to get bite wing x rays tomorrow and I am extreme gagger I hate them............
