Look at Madagascar, illegal logging of National Park timber by a leader who recently overthrew the gov, company in France said it wouldn't accept import of illiegally felled timber, Madag. Gov threatened to pull future business so French company capitulated, then Madag Gov. changed the law to make it legal ONLY after the fact, it's an analogy similar to these bans
I don't place one animal over another, and I voice for as many as I possibly can, I want to for all of them and I've stopped eating any of them, and I voice for other issues of the Planet and Energy and People and Concepts, I don't single one topic out and say "oh i shouldnt talk about anything else".
The EU has a policy of banning fur & meat imports from countries that are incapable of regulating themselves to ensure that pain and suffering of animals is avoided.
Seals are not superior to other animals.
Leather is a by-product of the highly regulated slaughter of animals for the primary purpose of meat.
Farming, transportation & slaughter of animals is regulated throughout the EU. Animals must be stunned and killed in accordance with the permitted methods of killing in Directive 93/119/EC.
If this is only about the commercial hunt then why wasn't an exemption for the Inuit recommended in the latest US Senate resolution ?
Anyone reading the text would know that they asked for a completely unconditional ban in Europe.
The Inuit have had their fur exports decimated by the US ban so it's only normal for them to oppose the EU ban. After all, the US ban also had an exemption and that didn't work.
Are they supposed to think the anti-fur people just sat on their hands on this ?
" "Why seals are superior to cows goats moose or fish?"
They aren't more superior you dope, but they ARE the only ones being killed as babies for their fur alone. A waste!!"
The reason he's comparing them is because people don't complain NEARLY as much about those as they do about the seals and the baby seals are not JUST killed for only their furs; they are also killed for the meat and such. The Inuit waste hardly anything when it comes to the food they hunt.
The Inuit seal hunt is not what is being talked about here. It's the commercial hunt of harp seals off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Inuit only hunt ringed seals. You're right, they don't waste any. The people of European's decent that hunt the harp seals only manage to bring 4% of the meat created by the hunt to market. The rest just rots on the ice. And, that's why people complain so much about the harp seal hunt.
This has nothing to do with the Inuit subsistence hunt. This has only to do with the slaughter of baby harp seals off the cost of NL every March and April. None of the activists groups oppose the Inuit hunts. They hunt primarily ringed seals anyway. According to the Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans only 4% of the edible biomass generated from the hunt is eventually sold as "meat". The rest is lain to waste and creates oxygen poor water making it more difficult for the cod recovery.
You'll notice that whenever someone tries to sell seal meat the activists suddenly flood the targeted market with propaganda about heavy metal contamination in seal meat.
And they may claim they aren't against the Inuit but their resent US senate resolution, S. Res. 84, does not have an exemption for the Inuit and actually stipulates that they support an "UNCONDITIONAL prohibition by the European Union on trade in seal products".

Rex M is sarcastic of "enlightenment" when the word refers to animal well being,
and belittles it as an issue only because the victims are not human. Rex Murphy is a speciesist.

@101101101777 @harpsealer we should also allow pets and cats/dogs to be killed and permit this by law - they are to be eaten as meat as we like

why not just enjoy your own privilidige and simply not endorse it yourself.
Why remove the right from other people? What gives you the right to impose your personal belief on others?

Rex continues to spew all the same excuses I debink in my video series "False Comment #"
Four decades of propaganda?? More like 4 decades of raising awareness.
And, it's not "an honest dollar".
