I remember this episode.... it's called the "Leap Back" ... I think. In this episode, Sam finds out he has a wife, who worked on the Quantum Leap project... and she is determined to find a way to leap him back home.
It was really sad, that in the series finale, Sam never gets reunited with his wife... but Al does with Beth.
You know, after this episode I kept thinking couldn't they have found another scientist to leap into Sam's place, so Sam can return home?
@offerp84 that's because its his wife narrating it. In one episode he leaps back and Al swaps places. Sam remembers he was married and his wife get together. And her voice is the same as the starting narration. Actually LOL! this is the one they're advertising LOL!
Think this entire show was such an excellent idea, shame it had to end but all good things do. Remember growing up watching this with my dad who was also a big fan. My favourite episode was the one where Al was supposed to be the devil or something it was like a haloween special. Wouldn't It be excellent to actually have your own hologram?
END OF SERIES SPOILER ALERT: I could be wrong, but I thought Sam never returned home because of his last gift to Al. Sam lept back to tell Al's wife that her husband was still alive so she'd wait for him. When Al gets back, he happliy reunites with his wife and thus never joins Project Quantum Leap and is never there to help Sam on his missions.
Quantum leap rulez! . I have a question: can anyone tell me the name of the song or the artist in the episode Killin' time season 5, the music can be heard in the Hooker's room or at the ending credits of the episode. Thank you
I watched like a lot of these episodes, but did sam ever actually get home? Or did he just jump into the body of Jonathan Archer in the 22nd Century to captain a federation ship in a pathetic star trek prequel series and live out the rest of his life in the perpetual pain of a failed TV series.
I cry everytime I watch the last episode of QL, it is so sad.
Sam Beckett never returned home
and I do not dislike ENT (it had promise and was cancelled waxy before its time). Bakula performed good on the series and it should have had more seasons .)
I bought the entire collection of this from amazon six months ago, I have watched it 3 times already (I know I have too much free time), thankfuly my mrs also loves cool late 80s early 90s tv shows !
I luv the intro to this awesome 80s series! the music in the background is quite touching, Tv series just arnt like this anymore. Knight Rider, Mork n Mindy, A-Team and this, those were real tv shows that had a particular feel to them. I dont know, maybe its me getting older.
@RaikenXion i agree with you there man, music seemed to play a bigger role in tv entertainment back then, it was actual composing that was involved. there doesnt seem to be a market for adolesence anymore from where im from, but tv back then seemed more stimulating for children as opposed to what it does today, today is a very messed up generation coming through
They started this in England and we all loved it. I knew he wouldnt go back at the end tho. For those of you thinking 'i didnt know' Its your fault for not living. Good post my man :)
Long live Quantum Leap ! I wish Syfy would put it on their lineup, or even USA network! I like humming the theme song.....hmm hmm hmm hum hum hum hum........
you knwo they got the name of this tv show from the idea that the electron "leaps" from subsphere to subsphere around the nucleus of an atom as opposed to orbiting the atom as the earth does around the sun?
Check out the "Opening Narration" section of Quantum Leap (TV Series) in Wikipedia. Different Intros were used throughout the series, this one is "Ziggy", the Project Quantum Leap computer who was in fact voiced by Deborah Pratt, Donald Bellisario's wife at the time and co-executive producer and writer of the show. I agree, she does sound extremely sad, which really draws you into the premise of the show...
Beginning with the thirteenth episode of the second season, Bakula's monologue was replaced with a broader introduction explaining the show's premise. This introduction was originally read by actor Lance LeGault (who appears in the first season episode "How the Tess Was Won"), and later by Deborah Pratt (Bellisario's wife, a co-producer and writer on the show). A shorter version of this second introduction, also read by Deborah Pratt, was used for the remaining three seasons
@langdonboy08 he discovered that it was his unconscious that was guiding his jumps, and he could return home whenever he wanted, but he chose to continue jumping, righting that which once went wrong. he also talked to god.
Kinda hard to explain, turns out that sam always had control over his leaps, but his last leap is to tell al's first wife that al was still alive during vietnam, then it just says that sam never returned home, presumably he went about fixing peoples lives afterwards
SPOILER ALERT IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW THIS STOP READING.
The answer: No! He leaped into the year and day of his birth in his own body (and I don't mean his baby self, I mean his adult self which was really weird) The show ended with him leaping again still in his own body. The impression I got was that he would continue his journey, but without leaping into other people, since he'd gotten his own body back.
This show was so inspirational I think back to it in my current journey. I'm currently trying to overcome complete paralysis and I'm having to live with my family in Houston I separated from a long time ago. As I'm getting better I'm now on a walker and at the same time repairing lost times and moments with my family. I look back at this show and think I'm righting the wrong and hoping my next step is the step home in SA....literally!!! It's been a journey.
Thank you paquito, may God bless you in your life journey as well. Live a long and eventful life and never get caught up in one spot dwelling on the past, always live for the next day!
Quite simply a brilliant tv series. My favourite episode has to be The Leap Home Part 2:Vietnam. This episode shows how much Al sacrificed for Sam while a POW.
Cette série est l'une des meilleures qui puissent exister ! J'aimerais que M6 puisse la rediffuser.. ca me rappelle ma jeunesse à suivre les aventures de Sam et Al..J'adore !
I remember the episode where he leaped into Lee Harvey Oswald, and almost prevented JFK from being assassinated then leaped into a secret service guy and was too late
And so Dr. Beckett finds himself leaping from life to life, striving to put right what once went wrong and hoping each time that his next leap will be the leap home.
This show has heart and so have you, liking it :-) You should try the "Highway to Heaven" series. I wonder, what it was with the 80's, that could make such shows. Perhaps we had more money and less worries back than and masses could afford a conscience ;-)

Actually no. I always shed a tear because I'm often reminded of all of the selfish, egocentric, "me me me" "anything to put myself ahead" people. To see a man selfless, sacrificing his own goals, his own dreams and his own ambitions to help other people, to right what once went wrong, not for himself but for others. That my friend is rare. That my friend is beautiful. That my friend is worth shedding a tear over.
Suck it, copyright-hoarding bastards! No money for you!

This introduction was originally read by actor Lance LeGault (who appears in the first season episode "How the Tess Was Won"), and later by Deborah Pratt (Bellisario's wife, a co-producer and writer on the show). I'll be go to hell man! When I watched this, I about shed a tear when she said that and thought I was the only person alive that'd ever admit that!
Great show! Love this show! Empathy and Altruism at it's finest!

I too was deeply moved by this show. Inspired me to save the planet, one person at a time. Beautiful.
