@jrwesterman Jake Shields went up to fight Okami & Menne, but he was the smaller man fighting the bigger man, & he returned to WW.

Same when he fought Lawler he only had 8 weeks notice so he didn't add much weight, but the Big Fights in Strikeforce were at MW. So 2 years of strength & conditioning, plus protein/whey shakes etc. He worked really hard to add lean muscle & No Steroids. You owe a good guy and a clean fighter (in every way, veggie, organic etc & in the cage) an apology.

Dan may beat Jake, but Shields went up 12lbs 7 months ago to fight consensus Top 5 MW Robbie Lawler, then 15lbs for the Championship.

He has fought at 170lbs for his entire career, Strikeforce had 3 Top 10 MW and NO Top 10 WW's.

Shields takes RISKS, he is on an old WELTERWEIGHT contract and even though he is SF Champ he can fight WW when he wants.

Hendo is a great fighter, Sports Illustrated has him ranked # 2 MW and # 4 LHW. Shields is still ranked WW on many sites.

GSP told ifight365 that Jake shields would be a dream fight , like Fedor vs Lesnor. GSP went on " Shields is a real tough guy...he would beat me in grappling, but I think I could beat him in MMA, but there is only one way to find out."

This is a Dream Fight, Shields is on a 13 fight win streak, in 2 weight classes, he finished 8 of his last 9 fights. He is ranked P4P and hasn't lost since 2004, and he was Top Ten BEFORE this win streak. I hope this moves THE FIGHT closer to happening.

I love great grappling, I know most people prefer stand up and I enjoy good toe to toe fights as well. But there are a lot of circle and jab fests that make me wish for a "put them on the floor rule" Shields is a monster at welterweight and is 3 and 0 at middleweight (Lawler Okami, Miller) I think he can hang with the top fighters at the heavier weight, but he is the only real test for GSP, and should be fighting at his natural weight.

Chung was told he could fight Shields or resign, he resigned. Now he will fight one month after he could of defended his title. Chung has NEVER fought a TOP 30 fighter, he has fought Brian Warren, Jason Von Flue and Frank Shamrock.

Shields has wins over 13 Top 20-30 and 6 Top 10 fighters. I like Le and its cool if he wants to fight second tier opponents, he's a draw. But people should check out WHO fighters have beat not just how good he looks against lower level fighters.
