I prefer the version on the Great Rock n Roll Swindle which as others said is sung by Paul Cook (and not just because as a singer and a drummer I like it when someone does both). I didn't even realise there was another version till "Kiss This" came out....and even then I thought it was an outake until I bought a second hand copy of the single on Ebay!
@AlekWheeler now that was about as silly as u get. paul and steve were good. but john wrote the lyrics. plus paul and steve did basically nothing after the pistols minus the professionals. though steve did have a great cd in 87 called no mercy. he ruined that though by making a hair metal cd soon after called fire and gasoline. boy that was horrible.
@AlekWheeler plus, as far as sid, well the smack got him. but go listen to a one off show by the vicious white kids. which included glen matlock. this was after the pistols. even glen admitted that sid was amazing. try and find the interview with glen and rat scabies.
@Gyphia matlock wrote the majority of the music plus all of pretty vacant (except one verse ) they were mad to sack him sid played/contributed sod all
@Konigtiger1945 i never had a leather jacket `back in the day` ,i bought clothes from charity shops and wrote lyrics on cheap T-shirts .sorry no party as i have to get up at 4.30 am to go to work
@ManFromMelbourne i think later they all agreed it was about all of them +malcolm `ever had the feeling you`ve been cheated` as rotten said they cheated themselves (mind you they never should have sacked matlock)
Thanx for the post. Can't believe the comments: "Jones&Cook didn't look the part in the Pistols"? They're the Sex Pistols! Lol! "It's not a band effort hence it's not the Sex Pistols"? This record came out as Sex Pistols... Jones did most of the bass on records as on here & he sings, instead of Rotten, so what? Larry Nightingale, Jones&Cook's old friend, came up with Did You No Wrong's riff... so it's not a Sex Pistols record? Either these are 10-year-olds or the world's really getting dumber
this is so cool, this used to be called a Sex Pistols Song, but it isn't. It a solo-artist song. please stop misclassifying it please. anything after Rotten left is not the Sex Pistols.
They lyrics refer to the battle waterloo, special attention is paid to the prussian field marshal, if you listen careful. There is also a bit in there about 9/11 and the credit scandal.
@sclapione Steve actually coined the phrase Guitar Hero, he wrote it on his Fender Twin on the grill while in The Sex Pistols, it's too bad he diden't make any money off it lol
quote time :). Paul: " silly thing was a thing steve an I put together... origonaly called silly cunt it was about Sid or could have been about malcom. Everyone. It delt with the whole pistols fracas after we broke up"
I thought Paul Cook's version was better. Maybe because that's the one I'm familiar with. Whatever the case, Steve and Paul were a great team. Solid and ROCKING. Steve did play all the bass on "Bollocks" anyhow. As for what this song's about, I don't think anybody knows for sure.
Probably the best post-Rotten song from the Pistols, even though it was just Jones and Cook at this point.
Gotta say, though, it really sounds a lot more like the Clash than the Pistols. Jonesy's definitely gone for a more melodic punk sound here, a la Mick Jones. And on the other cut of the song - the one in RNRS - Cook's vocals even sound a lot like Mick circa London Calling.
Still a good cut, even if it does sound like secondhand Clash.

This song is awesome! I prefer this version when Steve sings, Paul doesn't sing that well actually. What I've read, this song is mainly about Sid, but could at the same time be about Malcolm as well. According to Steve.
wished they had the balls to record it as silly cunt. it's a borderline punk tune and with the rod stewart drag (gear), cunt would have worked perfectly for the Great Rock n Roll Swindle theme.
Bullshit. It's just the sound quality of the grab. It also features on 'the great rock n' roll swindle' and was either about john lydon or john ritchie.
The guitar and drums sound like a pistol song. Are you deaf?? Go listen to seventeen Lydon still sang on it even though he didn't write it and didn't like it. Its about Lydon thats baltanly obvious. I know where the song comes from I don't need the history lesson little man!
What are you talking about. It was written about either of them because the lyrics differ on the great rock n' roll swindle "one of these days ya gonna die and people will say oh my oh my". Maybe you need to read your history books a bit hard brain dead loser.
I never said that it wasn't about sid, you just thought that 'cos I didn't put sid in on my last comment. Go away and grow a brain! you haven't got a leg to stand on.....!

this isnt the sex pistols, lol, i think this was made before they joined, or was it made for the great rock n roll swindle? lol, i know it was un the great rock n roll swindle, but kid, you've obviously only got into the pistols, so glen matlock was the bassist BEFORE sid. i dint mean that in a bad way, just seemed like it :P
i just did not follow the members mutch just liked the music i thought rock and roll swindle came out after they broke up.thats why the nazi and the bank robber ronnie bigs played with steve and paul in south america
There are two versions of this song, one with Paul Cook singing (from the film the Great Rock'n'Roll Swindle) and this one which was the single version with Steve Jones on vocals. The middle 8 has different lyrics. It was recorded well after John Lydon left the Pistols and prefaced Jones and Cook as "The Professionals" whose songs all sound very similar to this.
this is a real sex pistols original

this isnt the sex pistols, lol, i think this was made before they joined, or was it made for the great rock n roll swindle? lol, i know it was un the great rock n roll swindle, but kid, you've obviously only got into the pistols, so glen matlock was the bassist BEFORE sid. i dint mean that in a bad way, just seemed like it :P

ITS ABOUT SID
jhonwanegasey 2 years ago
This song was recorded BEFORE Sid died, even before Nancy died. So It's a little hard to see how this is about Sid.
