Gibbs is wrong (and he knows it, which is why he's having such a difficult time). The most durable solution to ending DADT is for a federal court to overturn it, as has happened. Any Act of Congress can be undone by a subsequent Act of Congress. Indeed, such a repeal of DADT proves my point.

In case you haven't noticed the Senate is completely dysfunctional with the Party of No filibustering everything that Democrats try to get passed. After mid-terms it will be even more dysfunctional. Then we have asshats like McCain who say he will absolutely do everything in his power to prevent DADT repeal. Good luck with that.

Obama's doing the right thing, people. The best way to end it is through repealing the law and it needs to get through the senate and onto the President's desk. His Justice Dep't has to appeal the federal judge so that the next judge can strike down the Justice Dep't's appeal, lending even more weight and cred and closure on that procedural front once and for all.

Just relax, it's in the process of ending, and the President is doing it right so that another President can't re-open it.

@SpySlowhands Get stuff through the Senate? Have you been paying attention to politics at all in the past year? Nothing is getting through the Senate. How long did a severely dumbed down Health Care take to pass? The Defense Authorization bill was filibustered by Republicans for the first time in fifty years. And they're in the minority. After mid-terms where a Republican takeover might be possible getting DADT repeal through the Senate will be a pipe dream. All we're hearing are excuses.

@SpySlowhands , DADT will never be repealed this way. If it was going to happen, it would be done already. There is huge popular support for ending DADT, and huge Democratic majorities in both houses. Republicans, and conservative Democrats in the Senate are holding it up, and this problem isn't getting any smaller.

@snipzor You're absolutely right! The Senate? Did the Senate of the United states repeal slavery? Did the Senate of the United States study whether it was prudent to go to war in Iraq? We need a leader not a believer in the wisdom of the United States Senate in the White House. Seems like we didn't elect a leader for the job, just a guy who thinks he's the 101'st Senator with a better house to live in.

@awreslr2 Well... there's more to it than that. You elected a leader (I didn't because of my Canadianism) who lied about his positions on gay rights. Like... fiercely lied about them. Sure he gave federal employees some rights, but upon further examination, he's only extended rights to federal employees. The hate crimes legislation was doing fine without him actually, and the AIDS funding would have increased under the right-wing.

Obama's just a snake oil salesman until further notice.
