I had a srt 4 and now i have a wrx. I love both cars but wrx are so much more reliable. Im planning on a 18g set up. I just feel more comfortable with doing aftermarket to wrx's than srt 4's. Motors are much stronger.
The motor isn't the problem in the SRT-4. It's everything else. When I had my SRT-4, I found the motor and tranny to be pretty much bulletproof, but the car itself wasn't. Wheel bearings, motor mounts, power steering rack, etc.. Everything BUT the powertrain broke.
Yes they are. They all let off at like 30-40 MPH when they lose their advantage rofl.. It's truely sad because they don't realize nobody gives a shit about 0-40.... It's all about quarter mile in the racing world and stock SRT4>Stock WRX. I own an SRT-4 with AGP wastegate 19 Psi sustained 16 Psi redline,SRI,3"catback, full aftermarket ignition systems and performance tires and i pull on Evo's all day. What's more funny is they are cocky and talk so much shit.
Well u gotta consider the fact that the SRT-4 was meant to compete with the STI and EVO NOT the WRX.....that means that the TOP END DODGE RACING CAR is .1 or .2 faster (1/4mile) than the MID range Subaru car? Thats something to think about...
Naw. All the road tests and pricing put it much closer in comparison to a regular WRX. The STI and Evo are overall superior sports cars. I was just implying that in a straight... this car is a beast. Evo and STI owners whos main focus is street/drag racing are missing out on the real beauty of their car.
I just got a 2001 Honda S2000 with 2000 miles, yes 2000! I can confidently say this car is superior to both of these though ; ). Slower than my SRT4 but nothing says true sports car like taking tight mountain roads at 100 MPH on shitty tires with the top down. Not to mention no more rattles and feeling of poor build quality from the SRT4. I'm trying to sell the SRT4. Fun car, but overall not a pure SPORTS car ; ).
I would race a stock to stage 2 from a roll, but right right now a stage 3 will walk my sti after about 90 or 100. SRTs have great top end. Thanks mitsubishi for providing the turbos and base tech for them. Mistu is always trying to get subaru some way or another. lol
Stock SRT4 runs 13.7 give or take and Stock WRX's run 14.2 it makes for the SRT4 to win. It's lighter and it gets more power to the ground than the WRX. Both cars are sweet as hell if you ask me, I had an SRT4 and now I have an 03 WRX and I love it even more for the traction. And also I can drive it in the snow with no problems.
Not with a driver that has 2 hands, 2 feet, and a brain.. unless that GSR is seriously modded. You'd be lucky to get into the 14's with a stock gs-r, and a stock srt-4 can run high 13's. Not a good contest at all. A modded WRX, bring that on, it would be a good race.
I don't know what torque steer people are talking about.. I have an 04 SRT4 and I don't have any torque steer. My last car was a sentra se-r spec v. That car had crazy torque steer.
lol ur srt doesnt have torque steer? maybe u have a boost leak. our cars are known for torque steer. i know when i gun it in 2nd the car definitely pulls to the right hard.
no, im pretty sure there's no boost leak since the car runs a 13.8. You havent driven a spec v if you think our cars have torque steer. Why would it have torque steer with even length axles and a lsd?
I really don't sense much torque steer at all in my 04 SRT-4, very minor even in the corners. After the 02 spec v I had, this doesn't feel like torque steer. The car feels to me like it handles its power better (and much more power at that). I love both cars, but I'm wondering if the stage 2 coilovers in my car effect the perception of torque steer? It's really tight.
If we're talking about handling.. and not bad weather traction, an SRT4 will outhandle a stock wrx. Skidpad Results from both are similar, but SRT4 is usually rated at .86 or .87 g's stock, and WRX .84. If it's speed in question, there is no contest. The SRT4 makes approx 265 crank hp at 2900 lbs, and the WRX 224 at over 3085 lbs if we're talking 2004 versus 2004.
i know that you have a SRT-4 and i respect that but the WRX is a more practical car and it will win on a circuit, if you didn't know the WRX has AWD which helps a lot in corners, G's aren't the only thing that matter, your car has better G's through the corners just because it has a huge ricer wing, no offense and who told you that a stock SRT-4 makes 265 HP, it only makes 240HP max. and it's FWD which is the worst thing about it and that was a 2002 WRX not a 2004
2002 WRX is no faster than an 04. The wing on the SRT4 has very little to with handling, it's not heavy enough to act as a counterbalance.. it only helps the car with high speed stability from downforce. The reason for the handling is the suspension tuning, which is very underrated, as the skidpad numbers show. Also, 230whp, which SRT4's have, doesn't add up to 240 crank, more like 265-270 because of drivetrain loss. Makes sense with it's speed too. Car was seriously underrated.
and the SRT-4 also has the problem that if you modify it, say like to have 400HP the car won't have control and won't be able to put out all the power to the ground but i have to say that the new WRX seriousely sucks, i would rather have an SRT-4 which is cheaper and although i know that it costs a lot, i would convert it to AWD, but i am aware that the car has more than 240HP, i don't know why but i have seen stock SRT-4's do about 270-280HP on a dyno
I'm well aware that WRX is AWD, but the suspension is too soft for that factor to put it ahead of SRT4 in dry road handling. I had a backroad race with my friend and she just about lost it in her impreza in corners that I was able to take easily in my SRT. Granted, I do have a $1700 coil-over setup, but it proved my point about FWD not being a major hindrance. It's all about suspension tuning and tires.
sorrry to barge in on your guy's brawl... but its mainly about driving skill.. tuning etc. helps but you need skill to control all that. trust me... my mr2 with stock cut springs and blown shocks outhandled a 240 with tein flex's... but yeea continue... :P
LOL.. maybe so. Actually she was a pretty good driver, fearless. You're entitled to your opinion on cars and woman drivers :-P. I got rid of the SRT-4 quite awhile back because of reliability problems. I now have an 07 350z. Much nicer car, and just as fast in a straight line as my modded SRT-4 was. Handling is just a hair better too.
It all depends on the driver. I drive a SRT-4 and I can tell you that I'm a lot faster than most drivers in stock WRX's.
I raced my buddy who has one and gave him a handicap. Shifting 1,000 rpm's too early on every gear. I beat him every time because my launch was really good (I matched his) and at 1,000 rpm's before redline, I still had more power. So there you go!
But yeah, all you need is a turbo and THEN you'll have a much better chance.
the wrx guy has to practice on the launching. when i had my stock wrx.. i still used to get srt4s by about 2 1/2 cars.. by the end of 1st gear.. 5200rpm is the sweet spot.. just dont jump the clutch.. or u'll be getting home in a flatbed tow truck, with that lead u can pretty much end dead even at the end of a quarter mile..cuz the srt4 will start catching quick..lol
The SRT is faster in a stright line... but last weekend I owned one at the track. WRX's are supeior not only at launching, but at turning as well. I would buy a SRT if they werent ff... a Neon... and Dodge!
meh. i don't think a heavy ass WRX handles better than an SRT-4. but as of tomorrow, i will offcially have owned both of those cars at some point. so i will let you know for sure :)
i think mine handles pretty good in stock form, it will do like .81g's on a skid pad, which isn't bad for a car that sells for the price that they do. i love STi's though, i just couldn't afford one this time around. maybe next time.
Its one of the better cars out there from dodge... In fact american car manufacturers are starting to make decent cars again while lots of japanese cars are going downhill.
i totally agree, I was lookin all over to buy a wrx but remembered the srt4 and got it instead. once at a roll, the wrx is gutless compard to the srt. plus i saved a ton of money which means more cash for mods:)
I have an 06 WRX TR as well. Fun car, you got to drive it hard to feel the turbo, but once it pulls, its a beast unleashed. I imagine both these cars are fun to race against each other, but AWD is car of my choice.
put em on dirt next time. thats what the wrx was made for. not this petty street racing.

SRT4 wins or keep up with WRX from dig. beat WRX from roll. but its FWD. and some people say it aint that good.
DEBATING. so far i'm want a SRT-4 unless i find a sick ass WRX
