Good fight. Memorable and turning point for boxing. Tunney was a scientific fighter. Smart, wise and cunning. Although toward the end of his career, Dempsey was still very dangerous. Thanks for posting. maurice
Tunney was the most underated heavey in history. Partly his fault as he didn't cater to the media. Read the book by his son Jay Tunney "The Prizefighter and the Playwright", to get a true account by not only a great fighter, but an outstanding man. A great read.
@FlaviusConstantius Overrated? Tunney has never received the credit he's due, and you have articulated exactly why. Everyone looks at the Dempsey fights and ignores the rest of his record. Any boxer with three wins over the great Harry Greb can never be "overrated" as far as I'm concerned. Greb, by the way, would have whipped Dempsey, even a prime Dempsey, worse than Tunney did.
@carbert68 I think Greb would have beaten Dempsey too. Dempsey and his handlers can't have been too confident either or they'd have taken the fight...
Beating such a legendary figure like Dempsey is what got Tunney overrated, imo. Take away Dempsey and most of the marquee names on his record were faded (Carpentier, Gibbons, Levinsky) or a young Loughran who he never rematched. Greb beat all those guys years earlier (except Carp who ducked him) and was likely past his peak when he faced Tunney.
@carbert68 one, some people find it easy to get attention traveling around claiming great boxers and refs are overrated, you'll find said mess all over every boxing vid on youtube and flavius is a top offender. two, underrated vs. overrated is a silly argument for boxers of 80+ years ago, none of us made a study of all literature rating tunney and dempsey we don't know how history "rates" them even less if it's a correct rating
Dempseys style reminds me alot of Tyson

@loughran03 I find Tunney quite overrated as a heavyweight, considering his whole legend stems from beating a faded, post-Hollywood Jack Dempsey.
