what are the string names? my viola is cgda, my violins are gdae, and i have another violin i built with the strings daeb, what are the 5 strings on this one?
What are the dimensions of the box? It's been suggested to me to keep the width at a max of 5" to avoid having the bow rub the side of the box, but I'm having a hard time finding a cigar box that smal...at least on eBay. Just beginning my first one. Nice vid BTW and it sounds great.
This instrument really is a thing of beauty. It looks and sounds wonderful. Those inlays speak volumes of your woodworking skill. Since I am currently building a box ukulele in a jig that I also made, I can very much appreciate this. Mine looks sick by comparison.
Just curious. Did you joint the corners or use triangular corner glue-blocks inside?
@gamerXpro1 Why is it a fail? There are 5 string acoustic and electric violins. There are videos of violins made from cigar boxes on youtube. Using parts for violins such as a neck/fingerboard, a soundpost and a bridge are common.
are you an actual violinist? or just somone who thinks they know violins?
1) Violins can be 4, 5, or 6 strings., so your part one fails.
2) the description says "five string box fiddle i built" so, why do you have an issue with the box as a body?
3) Show me an insrument you've made.
Do a little research next time before "watching people's flaws" your flaw might be in opening your mouth or typing your thoughts without a filter. Check yourself before you wreck yourself.
It says in the description of the video, but unfortunately you have to push that little scroll-down button to see it. The tune is Paddy Won't you Drink Some Good Old Cider.
Very impressed! It sounds and looks wonderful. Great job! I make my own banjos, so I have a bit of appreciation for what it takes, and how rewarding it is to make your own instrument.
So cool! Love watching unique videos like this!

That is one premium quality box fiddle!
So far I haven't made a fiddle that really works right. Maybe I'll try again.

Wow, sounds great. That extra string adds a nice drone to it. Almost like playing a cigar box banjo with a bow. Keep up the creativity!

@tutt55
thanks! it's the regular length for a violin, and exactly 5" width (for the same reason you mention)
Maybe try finding a box, then modifying it to make it narrower?

Maybe you should add a sixth string so the pegs don't look out of balance.. Good playing, Good backround, and good violin.. Two thumbs up.
