  • Thank you for posting. We need to hear the voices of ALL the elders who played a part in shaping the history of the LGBT community. We have come a long way but still have so far to go. It is my belief that until racism and discrimination ends within the LGBT community, we will never find complete freedom and liberty in society. We have to love and accept one another first before asking others to do so.

  • Bless you for posting this.

  • Great clip- Thanks adodom!

Um...allenproductions & shazbat- what are you talking about? "White experience/ white history?" sheesh!

I have yet to see, hear or sense those words in any posts regarding gay culture. The focus is on "gay" not black or white or whatever. Why on Earth are you trying to find a divisive racial angle?

Don't you see by your statements that you embody the very thing you claim to protest against? That would be racial bias, right? Look in the mirror.

  • @MrMadscotsman That's easy for you to say, since you're not a LGBT person of color. But unless you've been harassed in or kicked out of a lesbian bar or gay bathouse for being Latino, Asian, or Black, you don't know what you're talking about. Read about the stories of folks like Sylvia Rivera, Audre Lorde, James Baldwin, and countless other folks. Educate yourself.

  • @pinarvarina53: Fair enough- and I will read what you suggested. (I was thrown out of a bowling alley once... but that's a whole other story)

    thanks and Peace!

  • @pinarvarina53

    Agree :-)

  • Wonderful and amazing women. We all owe them a debt of gratitude!!

  • Excellent...

  • nice work adodom! this would make a fantastic documentary. thanks!

  • Does anyone know the title of this clip and where I can find the full feature of this film?

  • I wish I could have seen beyond the 3 minutes and 17 seconds! Thank you adodom for posting this- it's true that there are not enough documented accounts of all that our elders experienced before our own trials and tribulations!!

  • I know many of the women in this video from my days as a member of Salsa Soul Sisters in NYC in the 1980's. They are indeed telling the truth the way it was.

  • This is such an important part of our history, and yet the current gay community stil concentrates on the white experience, to the detriment of all of us. Thank you for posting this.

  • There must be tons of old video & film that would be wonderful to be archived. I want to produce a film about our struggle and situation.

  • I'm glad to see this because just as always, people only talk about "white history", and the African-American is left unrepresented. This is the only footage I could really find that talked about the black experience.

  • Thanks for posting this video.

  • Thanks for sharing this video.

  • Yeah it did not start with Stonewall, but it's definitely one of the milestones. If we look where it actually started, well, we can go back to Greek and Romans times too if we want to put it that way :)

  • A park I cruised got too popular. Someone in authority said enough.Pressure was put on: #1 increased police patrols.#2 Gates into the park's parking lot became locked at 10pm. Less and less people cruised the park. #3 the park become deathly quiet which braught in the druggies, less people came.#4 people started cruising during the day in a large bushy/treearea with trails. Which was very very popular, until they came in and cleared all of the bush away. Now almost no one cruises their anymore.

  • EXCELLENT VIDEO!

  • This is taken from Before Stonewall: The Making of the Gay and Lesbian Community. You can find the video on amazon.

  • Thanks for posting this - it's truly amazing.

  • Thank you!!!!

  • these women are so amazing, it makes me feel very humble that they came though all that...

  • Does anyone know who these people are?
