Haha, that was entertaining. I live in San Francisco now, but I'm originally from Fresno. Agriculture and its residents got cheap water from undergroud water tables but overconsumed it. The South gets its water from the North. Google it. But I'll argue that the North wouldn't be well off without Fresno, the Central Valley, and its productivity. I would include everything north of Fresno as part of the new Northern California. Haha.
