BOF was made by Capcom. I'm not sure if it was Square who completed it, or merely translated it.

look at the screen, it has squaresoft written on it, but it is true, that BoF 2,3,4, and all those others were made by capcom (but this one is the best IMO)

Yes Capcom gave the US release to Squaresoft who were more experienced at publishing and translating RPG's at the time

SquareSoft localized BoF for US distribution but Capcom developed it in Japan (w/o Square's involvement). If you recall, there weren't many RPGs available in the US back then, so Square picked it up from Capcom to fill the gap in time between releases like Mystic Quest and Secret of Mana. It was a good move on Square's part because BoF is a great game.

BoF's soundtrack is composed by Mari Yamaguchi & Yasuaki Fujita with contributions by Minae Fujii & Yoko Shimomura.
