I think he is lip-synching in this video, but he does not do a good "lip-synching" as in the other video when he is singing live he DOES NOT move his jaw in vibrato, where in this one he moves his jaw. But well I guess this is all TV production's idea and we all know that he can sing fucking good, this also proves that he is great singer coz when he is singing for real, he does not move his jaw, which is a good technique.
Interesting comments! There are only 2 songs that Anthony comes in 2nd. Michael Ball's version of "Love Changes Everything" and Tommy Korberg's version of "Anthem." Particularly, Tommy Korberg has a distinct sound to his voice. However, Anthony Warlow hands down is the best ever - acting and singing ability unmatched. Go buy his CDs "On The Boards" or "Best of Act I" to get a glimpse at his unbelievable vocal technique, power, and versatility. Fantastic!
Vibrato is a product of correct singing technique. Consistent vibrato that is...not a lot of the fake, forced, wide vibrato you hear from American Idol contestants.
he stops singing before the track technically ends, right at the last few seconds, check it out. ANYWAY, he is one of the most gifted singers in his genre and is definitely a singing role model for myself and people all over the world who strive for excellence and a career in musical theatre. Who cares if he lip synced, everyone does it at some point!
If you watch his final note, he kinda misses the cuttoff, he's a second too early and tries to save it, watch closely. Damn that sucks he lip synched, but us Warlow fans can forgive him for anything!
yeah i know, but thats precisely the problem, because he is lipsyncing, he is concentrating too much on making it LOOK like he is singing, ergo the jaw thiny, but when he is truly singing, he doesnt bother how it looks, cos how it sounds (which is fantastic) is more inportant...
Even at the end when he pops off the G, there is NO energetic involvment, nothing like real singing when the whole body is engaged in the process. Look at him sing live....the whole body is working. Another thing I noticed is his mouth shapes/positions for vowels are alot different in this then normal live singing! Anthony tell me its not so!!! Lipsyncing? **Cries**
Yeah, it's such a shame! I hope he didn't do other performances on TV like this at that time. So far I haven't found another one with the trace of lip sync, which gives a little comfort to my heart.
Being a die hard anthony fan...this is definetly from his album...he is lip sincing...for anythony when really singing...is never that animated facially for he is focusing on his technique, breathe etc. The jaw shaking if you notice does not occurr in any live singing of anthony's...it is a sign of tention...your jaw mimics your vocal chords most of the time...loose and relaxed chords...jaw is not moving...tention creeps in...chords move...jaw moves...
Yeah, I realized the soundtrack is exactly the same as the album. It's a shame that the show didn't record his live singing. Thank you for your explanation. But I have to disagree on his facial expression. I think he is facially animated performing music of the night in The Main Event.
I grant you that...he is very animated in the main event...but if you watch the clip of the backstage at the main event...he explains why he was so and so does John Farnham. If you actually listen to that entire recording...anthony was actually in bad voice. He sounded fatigued and tired. He relied a great deal on his white vowels and much more of his operatic technique then in other performances. YOur welcome for the explanation on the jaw movement.
I agree about his concentration on the technique, but only to some extent. I've seen a number of his TV clips, and all the released videos of opera performances. He can sing in character with animated facial expression, or choose to focus more on his voice with a relatively more reserved presence when it's needed. This performance is not all that exceptionally faciallly animated IMO.
When the breath is intense and the jawbone is relaxed, it could cause jaw shaking slightly to the vibrato. I'm not sure though as I'm no professional. There're many possible causes. I think it occurs more when the singer is belting.
I noticed that here too and have never seen it happen with Anth in any other video. It always irks me when a singer's jaw shakes as I don't believe it to be natural or necessary.
I think the lighting is amazing, though a little bit too flashing at times. The changes catch the emotion pretty well IMO. Actually the red light and blue light sorta remind me of the two sides of "cold war", which is the background of Chess.
The Cold War undertones had not occured to me, I must admit! They really didn't need to have them changing every 3 seconds is what I meant. It hurts my eyes.
i love him. it's weird seeing him with hair.

But I don´t understand, why shake the jaw if he is lip syncing?
tenoralkid 3 years ago
most people associate some sort of jaw movement with singing...so most singers when lip syncing feel the need to add some.
thenatural91483 3 years ago
Yeah, I think they think it must look like vibrato, but God knows why.

the jaw shaking thing is usually described by singers as a bad habit , Charlotte Church if notorius for it
Crenmagicman 4 years ago
he's not really singing. It's lip-synced
Plus, when he really sings, he has incredible technique and doesn't do the "jaw shake"

yes, you're correct there. I don't know why he went through so much trouble, lol

Who really cares how he looks? As long as he sings just as amazing as usual (pre recorded or not) that's all I care about.
