The media and politicians are given Obama's speech in advance, but are not allowed to release any information from it. So Jindal read the speech ahead of time, but obviously he underestimated how different the words would come across when Obama delivers the speech. Even so, Obama said many things, like the answer begins with all citizens, that Jindal claimed was a GOP claim. I wondered, too, if he wrote a generic speech rather than reading O's speech closely.

He only had about 5 minutes to do so -- and he was appearing before an audience of millions. These guys (on both sides) just write a speech trashing the opposition in advance and deliver it as though the President had never even given his own speech.

Thanks. I was really stunned by his speech. (Plus, how are you supposed to write a response to a speech that you haven't even heard yet? The networks should just give the opposition some time the following night.)

The media and politicians are given Obama's speech in advance, but are not allowed to release any information from it. So Jindal read the speech ahead of time, but obviously he underestimated how different the words would come across when Obama delivers the speech. Even so, Obama said many things, like the answer begins with all citizens, that Jindal claimed was a GOP claim. I wondered, too, if he wrote a generic speech rather than reading O's speech closely.
