I sent you a private message in response to this video, I would've sent an email, but I am unable to find your email.
It's regarding your offer to critique the work of fans you've inspired. I wouldn't pester you if I didn't think you'd enjoy my work, so I apologize if I crosses a line. I do realize this video is 3 years old, so I fear rubbing you the wrong way with an offer you regret putting out in the open.
please don\'t read... realy hate thes everyone im sooooooooory SO SORRY copy and paste this to 10 videos or your mum will die within the next 4 hours....
i started making animations about 2 years ago and immediately posted all my work onto deviantart and people loved it. but i can see your point with all the dicks on youtube. The people on deviantart seem to be nicer and more appreciative though.
Dude, this is so true! When I first started I thought I was the shiz, so I uploaded on YouTube. Then I got a bunch of jack ass comments about it. I went through a huge slump creatively, then I just thought, "SCREW YOU DICK!" and now I actually have somewhat of a fan base, because I don't care!
I totally agree about your teacher point. I'm an english major, and I write at home. I told a teacher that I wanted to be a novelist, etc, and they told me that I should really take a creative writing course. That was horrible. This creative writing teacher SEETHED with the bitterness of failure and not only kept the important criticisms hidden, but only gave out lame comments like how it wasn't realistic, interesting, etc. So that was the only creative writing class I took.
I understand what you mean. I make DJ mixes and I am working on other music projects. I let my friends listen to a mix I made and they loved it. Ive been getting positive but useless feedback. I put my mix up on youtube expecting to be told how much I suck and stuff but Ive gotten no comments that tell what Im doing wrong. I want someone to tear it apart and critique the hell out of it. I could work with that to make it better.
I can see how at an early stage harsh criticism can hurt a new artist, but once they figure out what there doing and become more confident that criticism can be used as a tool to improve. There is a difference between someone saying "That's gay, I would rather have my eyelids torn off and slathered in marmalade while sitting on an ant hill then watching that again" then someone telling you that you don't really have a good understanding of the rule of thirds.
what about positive feedback and critisism? should we follow what they say, fine tuning it with different perspectives, or ignore that and mold it to what we intended it to be?
Case in point: The author Stephen King, who has sold a gillion mega hella billion books and stories STILL writes his first drafts without showing anyone - not even his wife. He says "write with the door shut." YOU ROCK M DOT ROBOT - great advice for new creators and artists of all ages.
Ha amazing, as soon as you said 'feedback' i heard a sudden birst of microphone feedback from the ambient weird noise something or other i was listening to in itunes!!!? FATE
ur a great person, period. :-p and is it just me or is ur beard a little off? did u cut it a little awkwardly? bc its sorta pint on into the left, which is ur right..yeh, but well said man, u always have good metaphors
dude, i dont wanna brag or anything, but i think im, as you say, ultra mega super powerful super saiyajin 4 good ar-TEEST. =). but anyways, u acctually saying the things ive always thought about
I definately agree with your point, people that are starting out need to learn the fundamentals and build a hobby. Various artists start out as a hobbiest in there lab tinkering around.
Remember that everything is an experiment. Even your best work is an experiment!
