  • @sirpaisley Yeah, I can understand being picky in the recording situation, but i bet more than 60% of the picky people are just a bedroom player/dreamer .. like I am :-) But it's fine, since ppl have their own money to burn in their own way. It's just silly to hear ppl whine a lot about slight differences, then so-called boutique companies making profits out of it and laugh about it.. the jokes is on us. Just my opinion :-) cheers

  • whats the intro song?

  • @MitjaShi Cypress Tree by The Black Crowes. Impeccable choice by GMD as usual.

  • "good " guitarists hear the difference, creative and original musicians don't give a fuck about the difference.

  • It's funny to see how people too concerned about a slight differences between pedals, true bypass, cables, brands, et cetera... Imo, if you're ended up playing it thru od/dist pedal, with bass, vocals, drums.. and your other ignorance 2nd guitarist. Your fancy george l's cables 'HOLY TONE COLOR' is off the windows I wouldn't give a (pardon) fuck. Why the waste? It's not like ppl will care. just my quarter, Thank you :-)

  • I didn't know Jack Black did guitar pedal reviews ;)

  • put on close captions you will piss your pants

  • Not bad pedal for the money. Price of a case of beer in canada.

  • I just bought one >:) Come at me mother botique-er's!

  • is this a flanger?

  • @venomlad its a vibrato effect.

  • With a tube amp the slight volumebump will give you alil more saturation. Instead of a volumebump. So..... No problem there.

  • who gives a fuck whether anything is true bypass.

  • @incongra wow i sure do

  • @toddvandongen haha so do you see many pedals which are UNtrue bypass all of a sudden?

  • @incongra ...what?

  • @incongra True bypass is a good thing; "UNtrue bypass" is not. That's why I give a fuck whether anything is true bypass or not.

  • @toddvandongen Wow you really know your stuff! - you should tell all these factories which make UNtrue bypass pedals to stop making them immediately.

  • @incongra It's simple: Most pedals which are grouped with similarly built pedals sound better and dont loose any tonal qualities. That's why they are both advertised.

  • @toddvandongen Some manufacturers of pedals now use a buffered bypass system, which preserve the guitar's tone. Some of these buffered bypass circuits actually sound better than true bypass circuits.

  • @TheFilthy4 Now that I'm into!

  • @incongra

Very True. you think Jimi would have given a shit?

  • @chooseyourblues haha!

  • @chooseyourblues

If he were alive today he would use good quality stuff. He was always trying to get a good sound.

  • @incongra if you cared about your guitar TRUE tone then true bypass is for you. the more pedals you have that aren't true bypass the more you are CUTTING your signal of your guitar. Good guitar players hear the difference.

  • @rcschamp55 oh right I get you . do you are a good guitarist then?

  • @rcschamp55 a good buffer is more important

  • 1:38 riff fail!

  • @Putaspellonyou gearmandude did not fail the riff, the riff failed gearmandude.

  • nice pedal but has to modded. you have to cut cut the +9V wires from the switch and solder them together

  • The Black Crowes whoah yeah!

    nice little univibe

  • Machinegun... Tearin' my body all appart...

  • lol

    I just red germandude ;D

  • what's the name of the music in intro?

  • @blackzenode "Cypress Tree" - Black Crowes

  • Howzabout a shootout with the Cool Cat and some expensive vibe pedals like the Uni Vibe and Deja II? That would be most efficacious.

  • There are some mods out there to cure the "issues" this pedal has. A Univibe kinda pedal works with a light. Wich sucks a battery dead in minutes. So to help a lil the light is off when the pedal is off. This can be undone. But the pedal is then only useable with a powersupply. Just a preference...

There are allso trimpots inside wich can up the sweep of the univibe sound. Allso there is a pot or switch inside wich can increase the lightintensity. Together with some new alum. foil and it pops!

  • @Muziekschuur01 Ok, but why the effect has a delay??

  • @ATNicolini

The effect only starts to work when the light reached it's full temperature. So it does not work right away. The Danelectro Chickensalad does not have it's internal light switched off when pressed OFF. But this means when on batteries it will run very short on a battery.

If you have a pedalboard and a powersupply then you can mod the Coolcat Vibe.

The Coolcat vibe has a metal enclosure. The Chickensalad does not.

  • @Muziekschuur01 Thank you!! Do you know how to modify it? With this modification I can get the immediate start as soon as I push the pedal as the other effect in the market?

  • the effect starts up after a few moment of the pushing y the footswitch. Could you please tell me why? Thanks a lot

  • kinda sounded like aerosmiths moving out at first

  • it didn't really sound like it did awhole lot... i was hoping this pedal would be a good alternative to springing for a micro-vibe or deja-vibe... but i guess you get what you pay for

  • This also has a that sick fast Chorus pitch bend for open chords!

  • Thanks Jack Black lol

  • I am suprised he didnt like this pedal more?.. it sounded great.. and you have to pay so much for a good sounding vibe..used .. and it looks easy to get a great sound..

  • think this pedal would sound good in conjunction with a fuzzface?

Nice video demo by the way.

  • OMG this Danelectro pedal's are so awsome.....few week's ago I had a gig.....and I forgot my set of pedal's to carry with me....friend borowed me few, and of them one was cool metal cat.....I played hard rock/punk......And I was so ameased how cool they are.....After that I bought the same one.....and they are really cheap.......I hope soon to purchuase a vibe and fuzz one..hehehe

  • I've got a cool cat vibe and it's a great sounding vibe. I love this thing.

  • how much do these cost?? ive fallen in love

  • @justjoe032 $50ish

  • the cool cat chorus is so reliable and cheap as well!

  • can somebody tells me the sizes of this pedal?

  • This is definitely jack black on his off time

  • When u use a fuzz or overdrive they should sound like this:NAWNNAWN!!!

    AWESOME PEDAAL!!!!!

  • awesome tone!

  • Dr Zs are the best amps eva!

  • I elimanted the delay by running it through an effects loop with a volume pedal that way I can have the effect as loud or soft or off

now to figure out how to control rate!

  • fuck me someone had to wresle a snake for those shoes lol :D

  • This pedal gives to most glorious sound through the Vibrolux channel on my Fender SuperSonic...

  • Intro kicked ass.

  • yo blud this is sick

  • metal case?

  • @Teutonic1250 yes it is

  • guitar→input of pedal-output of pedal→amp

  • plug your guitar into the input, connect the output to your amp.

  • I got mines for $18

  • the chicken salad is alot better IMO

  • An at the end, the classic "Sting Me" by The Balck Crowes as well. This pedal is awesome, so buying one very soon.

  • Thank You! I appreciate it.

  • In the very begining of this vid, is that a real song?

  • Not that much depth, but a good pedal for the price.

  • thanks for yet another great demo.. i've been checking out a lot of this kind of thing lately and i have to confess i now include 'gearmanndude' as a search term.

  • I really don't like it...

  • How much are Doctor Z amps?

  • depends on "how much of an amp you want". , but roughly in the $1k-$2k range.

  • a lot.

  • Seems like a good pedal and I was please to learn the redneck footwear and country rock is not compulsory

  • not redneck footwear, the snakeskin boots are win.

  • theyre also redneck... but who cares?! this guy demos and plays awesome

  • they are NOT REDNECK X(

I love the boots. I want a pair myself, actually.

BTW, I'm Canadian, not southern so, yeah.

  • Thanks for all the cool vids! I must admit that the first couple I watched I swore it said germandude. heh heh...nothing wrong with that. :)

  • me too

  • @Festofish yeah me too, i really tought it was germandude before hahaha!

  • @Festofish I THOUGHT THE SAME THING!!!!! hahahaha

  • @Festofish haha, me too (maybe the problem is, that i am german) ;-)

  • i want a pickle vibe

  • Me too. I think its worth the extra money.

  • nice pedal, volume boost can be tricky in some situations

  • Probably for most use, the delay isn't noticeable, but if you are trying to nail a shift in tone at an exact spot, it might not hit it. Just curious as to why Dano couldn't get it to engage in real time, as it does w/ Chicken Salad. Sounds good, and you can't beat the price, versus some of the booteekies out there.

  • it uses a photo cell( lightbulb ) instead of a diode to get swell

and take a moment to warm up

that's why there is a hesitation

plus the bulb kicks in a little gain so it gets louder

  • Oh, didn't watch until end to respond to that comment, sorry.

That's delay in the effect engaging is strange.

  • NICE

except for the butt ugly housing

  • note the second or two delay after hitting the switch before the effect kicks in...

  • If it's a nice vibe effect, that delay would be called ramp-up, just like a real leslie cab ramps up as the speakers spin faster and faster.

My guess is we couldn't hear the ramp up on the video - I couldn't through my crappy laptop speakers.

  • gearmanndude you're my hero !!!!!!!!

  • Possible Univibe clone?

  • at the end of his vids he sould say Gadoosh like jack black lol hell have EVERYONE convinced

  • "botique"

    learn how to spell dipshit

  • Damn. I wan't a true pitch vibrato. Are there any cheap ones you would reccomend?

  • i'm a big fan of true vibrato too. however, the only ones i know of are somewhat pricey... check out the vox cooltron, and carl martin. both have vibrato + tremolo. they'll both set you back about 150$ though. please pm me if you find a cheaper alternative.

  • The Black Crowes "Cypress Tree"

  • i own a chicken salad it is aswome mine is not noisy why buy a uni vibe the the gilmour trower hendrix tone theese babies do the job

also check out the wasabi range underrated pedals they sound and look cool

  • Comment removed

  • a good comment on the horrible horrible guitar pedal industry.

  • It's a Hendrix / Trower sound

  • really?

  • to me it kinda sounds like a tremalo is it supposed to?

  • yeah its kinda like a trem and a phaser combined

  • Hello, I just received the same pedal , but mine worked 2 minutes and after it broke down... When I engage it and I turn the pots , I hear a hum coming from the pedal in my amp, sort of tremolo, just like the pedal was working but there ain't no input signal. Can you help me ? Or I send it back to the shop ?

  • cool demo.

  • good

  • i've had a danelectro and it's really noisy, how's this pedal?

  • blupup8 has valid points. it's more expensive to engineer new cases, but still cheap right now cause it's in China. Here's the deal. Dano wouldn't sell crapola without a gimmick. It's not a "sea shell" it's a Cat's Paw. As in Cool Cat. They always had a gimmick, 50s cars with the first Daddy-o, the stupid fast food mini things, and now this cool cat stuff. It's corny but tone wise this last line is very very good. The drive pedals work very well in live situations.

  • I agree, just sold my transparent overdrive which sounded decent just because I couldn't see the buttons live. And I hate dual concentric pots, i mean I couldn't even get them right at home never mind live. A standard enclosure would be miles better because these are great sounding pedal for the price.

  • Couldn't you just take the guts out and put it in your own enclosure? Still cheaper than the equivalent and you can put a DPDT switch on it? Unless the pots are integral to the board which would make it very difficult...

  • Also, I should add that the phrase "Hammond style enclosure" means Chinese made equivalents. I have bought some 1590B & BB's that I use for my own pedals I make and sell.

Secondly, knobs go on top and don't cost much to be proper "MXR style" or other in bulk.

It's about basic design. The Cool Cat design is too low at the switch end and has out of reach knobs you can't read.

My Belcat delay pedals are silk screened, have rectangular enclosures and proper knobs on top.

  • No it wouldn't, no way at all. You just use an off the shelf enclosure rather than make sea shells, so that's cheaper right there.

  • I bought this pedal - it's a no brainer. Great vibe pedal for next to nothing and true bypass to boot - thanks dan'o!

  • I must have gotten a bad one, when I crank the mix knob up it disappears. Like turning the mix all the way down. You cranked yours up and it got stronger. Looks like I got a bad one. Guess back to the store it goes for another one. QC missed mine.

  • mine does the same, actually it seems to depend on how much gain Im using with it. I dont like how it adds a bit of fuzzy gain, which may or may not be connected to the boost issue. I dont mind the boost, but make it stop sounding farty!

  • Mine does the same thing. It also sounds terrible if I play with other pedals in line with it. Muff and overdrive pedals, before or after this vibe, creates like a .... breaking glass sound when I first touch the strings. It's like a ridiculously aggressive sounding crash, followed by a mellow rotating sound. I hate it. By itself it's decent, though.

  • You maybe should try it through the FX loop ?

  • I work for a DANo dealer and we sell ALOT of the cool cat and Fab pedals to our students the a inexspencive and sound AMAZING! the pedal board is a real bargain too comes with power and connecters

  • could I use this pedal for the song Freak on A Leash?

  • I'm impressed with the cool cat line, excellent pedals, for a musicians budget. I'm buying this vibe for sure. May buy more.

  • sounds like it delays the vibe sound after you turn it on. I dont like that

  • that's just the beat of the lamp inside the pedal oscillating

  • this is a really really good vibe!!

  • nice intro song gmd. :D

  • bought one the other day...its awesome but can anyone tell me if the effect gets weaker when you max out the mix knob? its great and full untill about 90% of the way up then the effect seems to get weaker....(I made sure not to get disoriented with the layout of the knobs too!)

    thanks

  • i found my voodoo lab micro vibe used to do that when the battery got low. try a new battery

  • got mine the other day, wish i had a working camera.... just blew me away for the price. and i also kinda like the volume boost not to mention the shimmer it adds to a clean signal. GMD rocks!

  • great demo gear man dude. great deal for the price!

  • I've never really been into the vibe sounds but this sounds pretty cool.

  • The MAZ returns!!

  • heber810- despite its name the Chicken Salad is a vibe, NOT a vibrato...

  • I think the delay is from turning the lamp on since it's not digital.

  • I own it. ITs great only flaw is the knobs. Theyre sturdy and are good at not being in the way when you are stomping. BUT if you use a right angle cable it will mess with your settings. And settings are a bit tedious to dial in. There are good and great ones but its bit of work to find em.....

  • you shoulda played bridge of sighs lol

  • yea, I do believe it is a felony not to when demoing a vibe pedal

  • The Dano Chicken Salad vibe has a more fragile build, but it smokes the Cool Cat soundwise.

  • huh chicken salad is a vibrato pedal, this is NOT.

  • I always thought that Vibe and Vibrato wre the same thing, enlighten me please..

  • vibe meaning a tone resembling the Univibe pedal, its somewhat a rotating speaker but not quite.

  • and vibrato? :)

  • vibrato is just pitch modulation

  • nice review gearman! you gotta do all the coolcats! or at least the more popular ones.

    cheers/
