Snakes are stupid, all instinct, but are great at escapes. I used to feed my pythons chicken legs. Just get the bbq tongs put it in front of their nose and down it goes. Cheaper than running to the pet store and if the snake isn't hungry, chicken goes back in the fridge.

Piranhas tear their prey to shreds while they're still alive, snakes and lizards eat theirs alive, birds eat snakes alive. Whats the problem? Thats what they eat in the wild, not already dead stuff usually. Some people prefer to be safe and feed their animal something dead so they don't get bitten, scratched or pecked at.
