wow! I cant match that on my classical guitar! but i would have to say i am partial to the sound of this piece on classical guitar! Thank you segovia!
@odzelagio For me, the Piano derives its beauty from all of the intricate harmonies and melodies it can produce. I think many other instruments are suited better for these types of compositions because their singular notes have a much fuller sound as opposed to the Piano. Countering that, there are many beautiful melodies that only sound right on the Piano because played on other instruments they sound too muddled or busy.
It is a remarkable performance, true to Albeniz's original composition - but I have to agree the guitar transcription has a haunting quality that the piano, on this occasion, can't quite match! Try to hear John Feeley's version (also on Youtube)
Its an amazing piece when its slowed down a tad more than this though, to let the spanish beauty shine through. Playing this fast only shows off a viruosity of that player who can play impressively fast. but he forgets the actual character of the music needs its chance to shine in the "fast" parts.
Although admittedly after playing it myself its really hard not to race on through it, such an exciting piece!!
is it just me.... or ... every time I hear this piece on a piano it's played at Chipmunk speed.... ????????? it just doesn't sound as natural as John Williams on the guitar
I'm learning to play this piece, and so far, it hasn't been going so well. xD
My teacher has been telling me I play it horribly, and now I can see why.
I'm nowhere near playing it as well as Galdo plays it. The speed and even-ness of the fast parts and the flow of the slow parts are both something I have yet to gain while playing this piece.
But I'm so glad I found this. You should see me, taking notes all over my sheet music. xD. Thanks to whoever posted this, and, of course, to Galdo.
Its easy to say "mmm he didnt play very well the piece... The tempo in the part bla bla bla.. The pedal bla bla..." But very difficult to PLAY IT. What was the problem with the tempo, the keys? None... Only stupid things that doesnt make the musician better... He played one of the most difficult pieces, and he did it very well... And some of us have to practice a lot to make that rendition... So much talk, but it was PERFECT PLAYED. Emotional, talented and fantastic. Nothing more to say.
I respect Mr. Galdo's performance, I think it's very forceful. However, the performance does, by virtue of the choice of instrument, does not nearly have the elegance, subtlety and the magnificence of the guitar. This piece is simply better played and gains amazing depth by the guitar. That's just a simple fact. But all said and done, kudos to Mr. Galdo.
unbelivabe...this is like the heavy metal of classical music.the best pianist i've ever seen and the best piano interpretation of asturias...till now i thought "asturias" cant sound good on anything else except guitar.great job!
Great rendition, a few mistakes here and there but this highpaced piece actually is nearly impossible on piano at this speed (its just a bit less impossible on guitar). And he really does superbly bring out the loneliness of the Spanish desert, as well as the beauty of the country. Bravo!
i dont know a better version, THIS IS 100000000000000000000000000000000
stars worth. people always think, that "asturias" is an easy piece, but it is very very difficult to play those repetitions in an equal way , and PABLO GALDO is born to play this piece . GRET GREAT GREAT *****************************
Awesome playing. I think it should go just a tad slower, so as to be more implacable and less hurry-scurry. But the propulsiveness is wonderful. Perhaps he takes a couple liberties w/ the text as someone says below, but nothing major. He fluffs a couple chords during the forte/fortissimo sections, but I suspect that's pretty common.
he plays not the original. in the end of the first part he has to player layers in the left hand. plus he doesn´t get the upper chord on D and Es not correctly.
furthermore the arpeggio up; he has te wrong ending. It stops on D7 but the left hand two octaves down.
plus the middlepart is not as freely written as he plays it.

Very good, but......
There is no comparison to John Williams' guitar version.
This verison is so much warmer and dramatic.
cjm081 4 months ago
@cjm081 actually Williams had nothing to do with it.
Segovia transposed for the guitar.
I'm guessing you find this warmer because it is in Gm rather than the Segovia which is in Em.
