@apagoogoo . Hi. To clean the rod, gently scrub it using a soft brush or cloth and a kitchen cleansing powder, rinse in warm water and repeat. That said, a fine ceramic rod has very little abrasive quality, and re-aligns a good edge, rather than cutting teeth into it like abrasive steels do, so it's discoloration is negligible to it's effectiveness.
